  1. There are still a couple of slots available for Ben Stoeger's Fundamentals Class, scheduled for October 26th & 27th near Reno, Nevada. Class is 2 days, and costs $400. Please contact Javen at RenoUSPSA@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
  2. Reminder for all of you registered for the Silver Bullet Championship match. If you need to drop out, refunds are only available until Sept 30th. If you need lodging, the specials rates expire in 2 days. (See previous post). We will also be adding a SHOOT OFF during the arbitration period. For the top 8 finishers in SS and PROD divisions, you will be able to participate in one-on-one plate rack competition with single heat elimination. Final winner in each division gets $100. We have exhausted our wait list and are taking a few new registrants to fill the match. There are a couple Friday (one-day) slots left, and several Sat/Sun slots open.
  3. Greetings Shooters! We want to thank you for signing up for our match. We’re hoping that this is the beginning of an annual event which will bring shooters to our state for years to come. What’s interesting is that 80% of you are from outside Nevada, so this message is rather important. We have finally inked a deal with the Nugget Resort & Casino for accommodations. This hotel is large enough to hold our event no matter how much it might grow, and it’s one of the closest to our range. The Nugget is currently made of two towers, and the WEST tower is being remodeled. We have secured the EAST tower, which was remodeled a couple years back, and its located right next to their multi-level parking structure, so you are not hauling your gear through a casino lobby. Our SBC rates are as follows. Mon-Thur $59 +tax/fees Fri/Sat $79 +tax/fees We asked for special rates before and after the match in case you want to spend some time visiting Lake Tahoe, which is 30 minutes up the hill. Take advantage of these prices if you can. Tahoe is spectacular in the fall! Finally, Ben Stoeger is holding both of his classes before and after the match (and competing too). You can find details on Ben’s site if interested. To make your reservations, click on the link -> Nugget Hotel Casino Reservations

  5. 3 things work with or against you. Too HEAVY a striker spring will push the slide out of battery Too LIGHT a recoil spring will LET the striker spring push the slide out of battery Too much MAGAZINE spring pressure (loaded or overloaded) will allow the slide to REMAIN out of battery by putting too much upward pressure on the slide. Get the lightest striker spring you can reliably ignite your rounds. Make sure the USB makes no contact with the striker when trigger is pulled. You will probably like to use the softer primers (Fed or Win). 15lb recoil seems reasonable for most loads. Keep the barrel's chamber clean and ramp well polished to allow the loads to feed with as little friction as possible. I polished the underside of the slide (where the rounds from the mag push up on the slide) to a mirror finish too. Dave
  6. Nate, this is Dave B. You weren't on my squad, so I don't know who did what. We try to get RO's to call out the hits to the score person, and that person should repeat back. I know a lot goes on between, but keep your ears open to what's being called. When I hear NS or Mikes, I like to look back at the targets to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen. I know we have a few new RO's, and so details of perf hits tend to get confused. See you in May.
  7. Ken Cobb gave me some Bacon Grease a while back to try. Shoots fine in - 5 temps, and doesn't melt in 100 plus heat. Don't use anything else, and it smells good. I buy direct now. Nice pricing, and a syringe goes a long way. Nothing runs out.
  8. I've had my DVC 40 almost a year now. I got an Edge later last year as a backup gun. I've tuned both these guns to make them similar in feel, same grip, internals, etc. The ONLY difference between these is the slide, and 1 lb difference in recoil spring. Changes: DVC - This gun's lighter slide needed an 11lb of spring to keep it cycling and throwing brass at least 3-5 feet from me. (That's my made up standard) Changes: Edge - Put on the same size Extreme grip as the DVC, added tool-less guide rod. 10lb spring. Using a 180 Xtreme 40 FP (Heavy Plate) with 5.0 N320, this load makes ~170 pf in both. So the comment that the DVC is violent has some merit, in that I can definitely feel the difference between the two. The DVC feels snappier, and requires me to shoot differently. DVC - On close double taps, I have to go as fast as I can, or slow down enough to catch a 2nd sight picture. The slide comes back so fast that it will dip a bit if I'm not fast enough on the 2nd pull. I'm trying to grip hard to overcome, but I have tennis elbow in my support hand side, so its not optimal. The heavier the spring, the more the front dips. If I go 10, the brass is flying a bit too far, and I don't want the frame battered. Edge - Feels tamer, gives the sensation of being slow, meaning I can visualize the slide just cruising back and forth. When it does go back into battery, that is when I can make the 2nd shot, and its right on. The 10 lb spring gave me the best return, but the extra weight I feel in the front of the gun gives me some issues, particularly when transitioning targets in the same position. I seem to wobble a bit. May be my elbow problem. I like shooting the DVC better, but I have to work harder.
  9. There are about 15 Sat/Sun slots available as of this morning, and 5 Friday slots. Shooters who are registered (not wait listed) are being allowed to use the new squad to get with their friends. Once the weekend is over, the wait listed shooters will be sent a payment link, and will be able to squad. Get on the wait list now, and be in line. https://practiscore.com/silver-bullet-prod-ss-championship-october-2016-reno-nevada/register Dave

  12. We are sold out, but get on the WAIT LIST by registering. No payment needed for this. (We are working on opening up a new squad for Sat/Sun, and adding a new squad on Friday.) Also, at 8 months away, there will be those who will drop out, so get on the list! It's now OFFICIAL. Ben Stoeger is in the match, AND will be offering two of his classes. Fundamentals will be Wed/Thur before Silver Bullet, and Skills/Drills just after (Mon/Tue). I am looking for RO's and a build crew too. PM me if you are interested. Dave
  13. There were several entries made to Silver Bullet which hit after the slots went to zero. We've added some slots by opening up the Friday (10 stages, 1 day) option. If you tried this afternoon (Sunday, Feb 14), and have not received an approval, you may have gotten dropped. Try again after checking your CC to make sure you were not charged.

  16. Got my DVC 40 back in May. Been through 25 matches now (Area 1 and Ltd Nationals), and every match close to me. When running 180gr Xtreme's powered to 168pf, it needs an 11 # progressive spring. Anything heavier, and the slide would slam forward too much, causing follow ups to drop. Anything in the 12 # and up, would beg for an occasional short-stroked slide movement, causing feed problems. Running a 40 minor load, 10 # spring. I fine tune the "spring to load" suitability by looking at how far the brass ejects. I want my pile of brass to be no closer than 3' from me. Anything closer, and the spring is too heavy. If the brass is flying over 6', then the spring is too soft, and will be hammering the frame. All ammo is loaded to 1.155, so that my wife's M&P can eat it too. Once broken in, the DVC swallows any length ammo just fine. The DVC I have came with a 15# spring.
  17. My DVC needs 4.9 of TG to make 170-172 using the Heavy Plate 180 xTremes. I load at 1.155 so that my wife's M&P 40 can use the same ammo. Same PF also.
  18. Yes, we are a Practiscore club, and will use and abuse as necessary! We will be putting the link on-line in late January. Bookmark our webpage too. http://www.SilverBulletChampionship.com
  19. For 2016, we are working on SS and PROD divisions exclusively. In later years, our plan is to open up divisions once we are confident we will have attendance (cost considerations).

  22. I had the same problem with my 2011 mags in my DVC Ltd 40. When squeezing the grip and trying to release, some mags would not drop out unless I relaxed my grip. Some would. The difference was the front-back width, not sides. A few taps with a hammer fixed that.
