I was planning on taking the belt off, the drill press. Then turn by hand.

My new STI didn't come drilled for the Bomar. So what size drill and tap do I need. Also any hints on installation will be appreciated. I usually just knock off the sharp edges on sight and slide, drive them in a little way then back out and see how much interference I'm getting then correct it. Clean loctite and drive till centered on the slide. Any better way???? Thanks in Advance

DOH! that was a homer! Got so into the uplinking forgot about the unlinking. I simply turned the gun up side down and it wouldn't open.

I was just fitting a ramped 40s&w Nowlin barrel into my new STI 5" Tactical slide/frame. Actually haven't finished yet. But bushing, Hood, feet are done. I was getting ready to fit the link pin and was admiring on how well the fitting went. The barrel feet keep barrel from going too far forward, the ramp keep it from going to rear. Now I know the idea was to lift the barrel at the right time to lock with the slide. But this barrel/slide combo timing was so good that just as the hood hits the slide the barrel feet contact the slide stop and bevel I got on them they just lift that barrel up perfectly. So tell me again why I need a link ??????? Thanks in advance

That was one h*ll of rush, kinda like I felt the earth move baby, but the ending ARGH! Not so much stupid but lack of experience. Should have started by testing on a roof with less slope or maybe stayed on side the AC were on. Problem was the one-eyed brain was in charge. If your talking buy complete guns, The limited leatham Para will be OK. but the factory edge will be a little better and different. If your talking about buy a frame slide and build from there They will be both very good but different. I bought a para frame, caspian slide, nowlin barrel, accurail etc. It was and is a great gun, had to do a rebuild around 30,000 rounds. Shot box 45acp through it. Now I'm moving on to STI 40, again started with STI slide frame kit and adding all the goodies to it. Now why? Well I think for the 40 cal I wanted a lighter gun. The para with 18 rounds of 45 is heavy!!!!. The STI with 19 rounds 40 is a lighter gun, especially after I lighten the slide. So the cause is because I like building guns, and I think I can be a little faster with the STI 40. But mostly becaue I wanted to build another gun. And spend about $1700.00 for gun with 4 mags. To me a used older para would be a good starter gun. I knew somebody who sold a les baer PARA 45 with 6 mags for $800.00. Shopping for used gun is diffcult for a beginner because you can't take it apart and easily tell if a gunsmith built it or dremel burner did.

Diopter refers to Iron sights for NRA high power and the like that helps you see the front sight clear again, usually because of age. They do this by putting a corrective lenses in the rear sight peep, a non magnifying. Also usually use a variable opening disc like the merit. Now are these types of peep sights legal in limited IPSC? I don't know You sure can buy them for the mouse gun. But they will be awful slow for three gun. What I've done for iron sight AR is buy the Merit adjustable disc. The small one. Then I cut a nut for the thread that has a slant that fits the inside shape of the large aperture opening on the typical AR sight. Along with some loctite. Now I have an adjustable peep sight that doesn't change my zero when I change aperture sizes. Up close stage open the disc wide open, [little smaller than large aperture], something out pass one hundred yards, or light is at band angle, dial in the size you need during the LMR. I also went to a match thin front sight will small fiber optic on the top. All brownells stuff.

I just read the 9page thread on hammer follow. Here is what I've found that can lead to hammer follow. Pin holes too large or crooked, not parellel Hammer strut contacting sear spring causing a loss of tension Ramp angle too steep cause a momentary hault of the slide during feed Barrel lugs hitting slide stop too soon, again haulting the slide during feed. Too strong recoil spring, too low hammer spring. Plus all the usual sear hammer spring stuff. Running a light trigger means everything else has to be perfect. Gunsmithing is an art and science.

Sounds to me like the springs are stacking or near stacking on full recoil. I find I need to trim almost all of my springs

Loctite makes some high temp stuff too. But you can also try the bearing retainer it fills bigger gap Also make sure it was real clean and you don't touch the part with your fingers. Use gloves and brake cleaner or the loctite prep/cleaner. Also dimple the slide so that you have to drive the sight in.

A gunsmith/FFL can order a TI cylinder. While light they run hot! Run three or four fast reloads through it and it will be hot to handle. Search the archives, TI has been talked about alot

I know the tag line is Taser me, but the Tasering really isn' t the issue here. I would much rather be Taser than billyclubbed or maced. I've experienced all three. I believe Tasering has the lowest risk of injury. Although it can be over done.
