  1. I just hammer the mags home on my shadow and the slide drops.
  2. I have pretty big hands and like factory rubbers on my shadows and 75s but I run factory aluminums on my TS.
  3. I just received my subcompact. It's a beautiful gun, the quality is incredible both inside and out. It feels great. It is very consistent and accurate and it is a natural pointer for me. The shape of the lower is very very nice. But, I'd like to tune the trigger a little. The SA is a crisp 4.5 lbs with a lovely short and tactile reset. However, I'd like to drop .5-.75 lbs. The DA stacks real bad and is very heavy I estimate over 10. Front sight, any idea when some springs may be available for this gun? I know Dave at CGW is supposed to be working on some springs for the larger sizes. I'd like to try a lighter main spring and perhaps a lighter firing pin block spring. I may tear into it soon and see how the springs compare to CZ springs. I just can't leave my guns alone I always have to do something to them.
  4. Looking forward to seeing a sub compact. As well as a full size but I love my shadows!! Thus, I think a sub compact will be in the cards for me long before a full size.

    P09 Safety

I also found that I didn't like the shape of the safeties that came with my p 07. However, I have absolutely no problem with the safeties on my shadows, 75s, 85, or TS. In fact, in IDPA, I usually shoot ESP and have no problems operating the safeties. The polymer omegas are different animals.
  6. Use what you like! After trying a bunch of different grips, I'm back to the factory rubbers.

    CZ 75 Upper?

I got one of those a couple years ago for $300. CZs must be getting popular.
  8. The sights offered by CZC are not as deep. I tend to hit low with the CGW sights but poa with the czc sights.
  9. This is what I would do if I wanted a shadow at this point. The 75 shadow is fantastic and quite similar to an sp 01 shadow. The minor differences have been accurately described many times. Unless you want to lay down the bigger bucks on an sp 01, and just have the full dustcover, the 75 shadow is the way to go.
  10. I'd think about pulling the sight completely off, turning it upside down and putting it on a telephone book and dimpling the underside of the sight with a sharp punch. Give it some good smacks. Afterwards, it should be tighter in the sight cut. I'd also clean the cut and the underside of the sight and install it with red loctite. Use blue on the set screw. I won't rely on loctite only to hold a rear sight on. I like a much tighter fit. I think of loctite as insurance rather than the agent that holds a sight in place.
  11. You can find a 75 shadow in the $800 range but aren't even the base sp 01 shadows more?
  12. The way to get the rail on a shadow is to get the sp 01 shadow. My first CZ was an sp 01 shadow target. Sweet shooter. Next, I bought a 75 shadow target, basically a base shadow that I made a few changes to. I shoot a bit of IDPA and first shot the SP 01, switched over to the 75, and then switched back to the SP 01 but with an after acquired upper with fixed sights. The difference between the railed and non railed shadows is very minor. I could easily go back to the 75 and get used to it in an instant. The concern with a shadow target is that the slide is milled for the adjustable sights and it might be declared IDPA illegal. This won't be a concern in a local match but could be a concern if you start shooting bigger matches. If you get an SP 01 or a 75 shadow, I recommend a fixed sight model. It could take some tinkering to get the sights where you want them but the gun won't be declared IDPA illegal and you won't have to worry about the rear sight breaking or having pins walk out. I'm sure you will like whatever CZ you buy.
  13. If I were just getting into CZs, I would pick up one of the $800 75 shadows. What you see on GB are the "base" shadows that haven't been worked over by CZC, come with stock shadow sights including a 1.5 mm wide fs, and probably have plastic grips. However, they lack a fpb allowing you to get an ultimate CZ 75 trigger, they also have the frame shape (beavertail and trigger guard) that allow a high efficient grip, and they come with a shadow slide with the larger diameter barrel of the shadows. It could use some trigger tuning, some spring changes, maybe an extended fp, and a short reset disconnector to reach the full potential CZs possess but you will have an exceptional platform to build upon as you learn more about tuning your new pistol. you will probably try several different sets of grips before you find what you really like. I prefer the inexpensive factory rubbers.
  14. I bought one and it has very little use, less than 150 rounds, of 223. It didn't work as well as my dillon SS 600 so I put it away. If you are interested in buying it shoot me a pm.
  15. As 1SOW says, it is a great time to be a CZ fan as there have never been more fine parts or exceptional tuners. In one of my shadows, I have installed a CGW short reset disconnector. It is a beautifully made and finished part. My other shadow has a CZC short reset disconnector. The triggers are a toss up. In the hand the CGW disconnector is perhaps a little prettier than the CZC part in that it appears a little smoother. As I said above, its a toss up in operation. the CGW sear is pretty exceptional as it is of superb quality and has an adjustable arm so you don't have to file your safety to make it fit. I have an SP 01 with the fpb that has both CGW and CZC parts in it installed by me. I used the CZC hammer to ensure the gun is production legal. Most of the other action parts are CGW. The sights are CZC. The gun runs like a scalded cat and I for the past 1.5 years or so I have been doing my own CZ work. The sights are also a little different. The CGW rear sights have a wider and deeper notch than the CZC sights and seem to require that the front sight be held higher to hit POA than the CZC sights. Which you prefer is a matter of personal preference. My eyes like the CZC sights a little better. Re the shops, I have guns from both. I have 2 shadows, one custom and one that has had some custom work on it by CZC. They are both great. I have a compact that has been worked over by CZC and a custom matte stainless, they are both great. And I have a 97BE from CGW and a pre B 85 that CGW worked over. They are both great.
  16. I've got both. I preferred the 75 for a while but have since switched to the sp 01. They both have short reset disconnectors. They feel a little different in that the sp 01 is a little more stable with a little less muzzle flip and the 75 moves a little easier but we are talking very minor differences. Whichever you get you will be happy.
  17. I have a 97BE which is CGW's fully tuned 97. It's absolutely fantastic. It's incredible accurate, reliable, and has a great trigger. Given the amount of work Dave does to the BE's, its also a great value.
  18. Just got to keep a lookout they pop up from time to time. I haven't felt the desire for a grip reduction since installing thin Al grips. Cost, Stuart can tell you. If I wanted a reduction, I think I'd do it myself. They are real nice, I've got .40 and 9mm uppers for mine.
  19. The true radius sear jig is what I use with a hard arkansas stone. It works great. I did get a trigger track stone from brownells. Its relatively simple to get a great 1911 trigger with these tools, some care and a bit of research. I've also used a couple EGW sears and they are fantastic but you can get a good trigger with even, for example, RIA stock parts.
  20. True that, missed the last sentence of your post. Our comp CZs are shadows.
  21. I love the CZC tactical rear. CGW's sight has, I believe, a wider notch. Personal preferences vary but I shoot better with the CZC sight.
  22. Of course Dave also offers a hammer for the p 09/07. I have one in my 07, along with his other parts, and it dramatically improves the trigger.
  23. CCI, federal or winchester all work for me. I've never had a problem with any of these but russian primers gave me fits.
