  1. If I bought my wife flowers, think she would turn me loose for the 8th or 9th weekend in a row? I hate the idea of missing a LAST match of the year!
  2. I'd rather poke the targets with the long mag tube....it's cheaper to replace than Briley choke tubes!
  3. I started shooting matches at CMMG's range where the Midwest 3-Gun matches were held....we always had the "steel must FALL" rule in place. At the Amateur match last year I was burned for a target that flipped up OFF the stand and landed upside down by it's base on the stand....the MD was called over by the excellent RO's I had, but I already knew what the answer would be. I shoot every steel target with the expectation that it has to fall....and if I spin one with shotgun, I have to accept that I didn't get a good pattern on the plate, and shoot it again. Shooting the stand or base has always worked well for me in those scenarios.
  4. Austin and Dewberry are spot on.....the LaRue targets are probably great for larger calibers at sniper comps and for practice, but with lots of people shooting them and using various ammo weights and speeds, they need to be recalibrated way too often. I personally like a long range target with a well-maintained flash card or hung from conveyor strap/fire hose that reacts violently when hit.
  5. DING DING DING.....we have a WINNER! Quit screwing with what barely works as-is...you're gonna break it! The division is under represented behind Tacops and sometimes Open. Heavy Divisions are dying fast, in part to much higher ammo cost, despite concessions for hits on paper. I shoot limited from time to time and enjoy shooting it. Downloading mags or mag tubes seems really.....California/Colorado/New Jersey/New York/Mother Russia. Longer shotgun tubes really only come into play with people who can load their shotgun tubes really fast and can load 2-4 shells more than you can while moving into that shooting position. Loading 4 at the buzzer can be an advantage on a rare occasion, but I've watched a lot of people get burned trying to do it. With Nordic's coupler and RCI XRail's 2rd extension for their mono-tube, there isn't a barrier to entry unless you are only weakhand loading. Just to be facetious.....here are the new limited division rules: Production pistols only, .44 caliber or larger with 2000+PF, no custom triggers/sights/magwells/slide cuts/recoil springs, must fit in an IDPA box, 10rd mag limits, all mags must come from cargo pockets. .40 is allowed in Super-Limited, but must make 180PF. Shotgun must have factory length mag tube with 8rd max, no welded/extended lifters, no opened loading ports, cylinder bore 18.5" barrels only, bead sights, required pistol grips with no buttstock, a top folding buttstock is allowed in Super-Limited. Must be loaded from a belt/bandoleer/armband, and oriented in a fashion where each shells has it's own holder that does not allow dual loading or quad loading (coz we knows it's da debil). Weakhand loading of more than 2 shells will be permitted in Super-Limited only. Rifle with iron sights only, bolt or lever action, max of 5 rounds of .45-70 minimum, ban-era non-threaded barrels only......muzzle brakes are cheating! No adjustable anything, no lightweight components. Semi-Auto .30 cal with 10rd mag limit and 1x optic allowed in Super-Limited. All dump barrels for Limited and Super-Limited will be cowboy action carts with muzzle up orientation. Competitors will be required to wear WWII era camo and boots. Now that the thread has been taken to full "herp" with partial "derp"......leave the division alone, there's barely enough representation at most major matches to put a second gun on the Limited prize table at some major matches for the guy who takes 2nd place behind Casanova at 65% of his scores.
  6. Gotta admit.....pretty cool! When comparing proximity to Kansas City, it appears there are matches I'm not attending well within driving distances. Can't wait to let my wife know I may be gone for a couple more! haha
  7. Not I, brown fly! I bought the only Benelli M2 (a 26" field gun) that Cabelas had in stock when my Mossberg JM-930 crapped out on me at the 2012 Fallen Brethren match. I promptly added an extended Skeet2 choke (read Light-Mod) and sent the lifter off for welding and extending because my thumbs are important as a Chiropractor. I have a 12rd tube from RCI XRail, HiViz tricomp front sight with v-notch cut into my vent rib with a file i had laying around...some ghetto stippling I did at my office and a couple small parts like an oversized safety and bolt handle. My shotgun is UGLY compared to some of the beauties I've seen, but she takes care of me. I don't have the fancy lightened bolts, ghost loading mod?, or anything like that. Hell, I have a 1/2" diameter piece of dowel rod to plug the shotgun to 2+1 for dove season since my RCI XRail tube goes all the way back to the receiver.
  8. Look slike a solid option IMO. I won a rifle this past weekend that I'm thinking will be great for my son to use as his first 3-gun rifle....will be pretty nice to just to swap in the BCG with adjustable key, add comp, Taccom ULW buffer system and tune!
  9. I built a very similar rifle for this season and recently made a couple minor changes that have really leveled the gun out and made my rifle feel the best it ever has for last weekends 3GN Regional in Texas. Here is my rifle build: 16.5" rifle gas Voodoo Evo Ultralight barrel Syrac Gen II gas block Vltor billet upper with dust cover and FA Rubber City Armory LW BCG BCG Gunfighter CH 16.2" Lancer Octagon carbon fiber handguard Omega Armory billet lower Phase 5 one piece lever/bolt catch AR Gold trigger Luth-AR stock LaRue Apeg grip Taccom ULW buffer system with carbine spring and spacer for rifle buffer tube Taccom ULW muzzle brake The last two things added/changed to the gun are: Rolling Thunder comp Taccom's new preload adjustable rifle buffer system I was having some "pushing" issues where I was overpowering my lightweight rifle and snapping it past the target, and a few issues with the comp allowing me to push the gun to the right with each shot. With some advice from Tim at Taccom, I put the Rolling Thunder comp on the muzzle, drilled a very small side port in the comp, then gradually increased the size of the port in the right side of the comp until my muzzle no longer moved to the right. I intended to do the same with the port on the top of the comp, but it never rose on me when shooting. I haven't seen a single issue with lost accuracy of any stringing with sustained fire due to the extra weight at the end of the muzzle. My adjustable Taccom ULW comp was excellent at controlling muzzle rise, and with all three ports open on the top pushed my gun DOWN, but I felt like I was overpowering the the gun and couldn't run it slow enough or steady enough without a counterbalance. Tim from Taccom sent me the new buffer system that has spacers to adjust preload. My 16.5" rifle gas was close to the ragged edge of running reliably with 55gr ammo, when tuned for my heavier 69gr handloads. I put the rifle buffer system in with only 1 spacer, removing 2. Took the gun to the range and started with no gas, opening the Gen II Syrac block 1 audible "click" at a time until it locked back on an empty mag. There still wasn't any muzzle rise or push to the right, but with the gas block being opened a little more than half what it previously was, the perceived "push" back into my shoulder reminded me of my silenced .22 bolt gun. I had the previous version of the Taccom ULW buffer system with spacer and carbine buffer/spring setup, which is a great setup, but with my A2 buffer tube inside the Luth-AR stock, I'm glad to take advantage of this new setup! Lastly.....I only added a few ounces at the muzzle, barely changing the balance point of the rifle, BUT the location of the weight makes me PERCEIVE that it is similar to the stabilizer on my bow with the bit of extra weight near my weak hand. That, perception or reality, has me feeling like I can't push past the target.
  10. I'm a reformed 3GN hater.....attend a regional and you'll see why. ;-)
  11. Everyone.......something I've found to be constructive as of late. Start a one on one dialogue with the MD from the match about areas where you think there could be improvements made, voice your concerns and offer suggestions as to how things might be fixed. I've found Mr. Sole to be responsive and encouraging about receiving concerns and possible solutions/ideas.
  12. have enough caddies for the shotgun stage, know where your slugs hit, and considering some better ammo than your 55gr hoser stuff in case there are triangle shaped targets on a plate rack or some more distant targets. My understanding is that the club has potential for some longer ranges.
  13. From a Chiropractor's perspective....if you are craning your head further forward than you would shooting rifle or pistol, it's easy to get spasms in suboccipital muscles. Most of my patients with bad headaches have some sort of issue in the relationship with the top two vertebra in their neck and the base of their skull. If that area is already prone to insult, you're adding fuel to the fire. A guy with short arms shooting my shotgun might have to crane his head forward to get into the same spot to shoot, but if I swapped a 1/2" shorter recoil pad onto the stock, he wouldn't have those issues at all. A properly fit shotgun isn't just good for being a better shooter. The least amount of drop, with cheekpad one size taller than factory, and standard recoil pad on my M2 was the cure for me to shoot the scattergun comfortably.
  14. You're correct. I'm leaving tomorrow morning for the Texas Regional and looking forward to what I expect to be a great match. When it comes to 3GN and Enos Multigun forum mixing, I don't bother, and the amount of posts on the AR15 subforum are nearly non-existent.....which leaves Facebook where Charles and Tenille have been pretty good at keeping things updated. I wrote off the Pro Series style stages and anything 3GN after the Thanksgiving debacle and decided to give both a second chance and glad I did. While the Pro Series style stages are completely different, I found them to be really fun when I shot them the day after the 3GN Pro Series was shot. The Regional I shot in Kentucky was one of the better run matches I've been to this year and I had a blast. No match goes without some issue being brought into play, but with the constant fresh paint, target orientations painted on the ground, and consistent rules...the issues seem to be reducing quickly.
  15. THIS.....right there.....is why I'm already looking forward to coming back. They listened last year and we immediately noticed the pile of LaRue targets under a tree (not on the courses of fire). Every match has it's issues, and this match was no different. Sometimes the issues are easily fixed, sometimes the issues cannot be foreseen do to mother nature's involvement, sometimes it takes an entirely different thought process or relatively expensive investment to fix. The difference that comes into play is when an MD/RM is willing to address constructive criticism to make positive changes in order to make the next year's match better. I've already fired an email off to Jim, thanking him and Mr. Blackwell for putting the match on, along with constructive criticism that I saw could be easily fixed to make the match even better. I personally like the range there as well, or better, than any range in the country that I've shot at to date....the RO's were excellent IMO....the food at lunches rocked.... now to start thinking about squad requests for 2015. Sandra, I want to be squadded with everyone in the top 20 of each division...ok? I will bring you wine of course!
  16. Finally back home after a long drive. As always, a fun match with LOTS of long range steel. Mother Nature did not grace us with a sprinkle this year, but instead, consistently comfortable weather! Thanks to all the sponsors and the ROs who put their time into the match!
  17. 170mm mags fit my 9mm 2011 just fine, as well as 33rd mags in Glocks. Load the shotguns to the max before the buzzer. Add bipod to TO gun. GTG
  18. They aren't real well known......but this Eckhardtman dude and some crazy guy with a mohawk named Clay seem to do well with them. A bearded italian guy named Rick that seems to have placed himself into the 3GN shootoff shoots one as well.
  19. More divisions means another division that is underserved. Eliminate all divisions and capacity limitations or types. .308 gets hit concessions for paper and static steel with one hit, .223 has to hit paper with 1-A or two anywhere and two hits on static steel. 9mm requires two hits on paper, .44 and larger requires one. Wait.......my popcorn is still in the microwave......
  20. Can you squad me with Taran Butler, Jerry Miculek, Keith Garcia, Daniel Horner, Katie Harris, Lena Miculek, and Kalani Laker? oooooo....me too, me too I have 9 friends who want in that squad too btw. That cool?
