  1. I've reamed the throat turning a drill bit by hand wrapped in electrical tape so it stays centered and doesn't dig in.
  2. With WAC I would start in the 5.5-6gr range and work my way up, you'll probably make major just shy of 7gr.
  3. Modification of the sear is a delicate process I never recommend to others and almost never do myself. While a light polish on the friction points and contact edge of the sear can help smooth the break of the trigger, if you remove significant amounts of metal or change any of the angles, you do so at the risk of safety and reliability. A polished hammer strut smooths out the DA stroke significantly, but it also reduces the drag on the hammer fall in both DA and SA, the increased speed at which the hammer falls may not be detectable, nor the increased reliability in ignition, but every bit helps
  4. The three holes are 4mm and angled rearward at ten degrees to mitigate muzzle rise as well as the straight back push of the recoil. That three port comp came on the factory V8 Gold Team with eight holes of the same size in a V shape. At the moment a friend has that barrel and will drill an additional two holes for a total of five straight up. I shoot Major with a 115gr bullet (min for USPSA is 112 as opposed to 120 for IPSC) and 9.3-9.5gr of SP2.
  5. If you revisit my May 9th post in this thread, you'll see what to do. The factory hammer will not do what you want, that race hammer will.
  6. Shove the magazine up and forward with a good amount of force. Should do the trick. If not file on the slide stop.
  7. You're definitely on the right track Just get a 6" barrel, cut it to length, thread it M15x0.75 (you can get dies on Ebay for cheap), install the factory three port cone comp (available at EG's webstore), install an optic and you're off to the races with a basic Open gun: I used metal epoxy, a longer screw and ground the front sight off for a clean look: From that point you can start drilling holes in the barrel, cutting weight from the slide/frame and increasing stroke to your liking:
  8. It's a .40 and has a standard frame, I would skip it.
  9. If you really don't like it you can adjust the angles on the slide and slide stop for more positive engagement.
  10. Two identical guns, same weight bullet, same powder, one in 38, the other in 9, the nine will take a smaller charge to make major. It's up to you to decide if a smaller charge feels better or worse in the situation. When I had my super shorty 38 with three holes I decided there is such a thing as too much powder in an Open gun!
  11. I've found all my powders have a tipping point past which more powder nets less velocity, but if you lengthen the OAL, you can push it further.
  12. It really depends on the density of the powder, I routinely load 9.3gr SP2 in a 9x19 with room to spare, I've loaded as much as 10gr ?
  13. STI barrels are the slowest I've chronoed, so HS6 might not make major with Montana Gold 124s, but you could load a little shorter, use faster bullets (plated or coated), heavier bullets like 135s, or a faster powder like WAC, CFE Pistol, or Silhouette. I'm not sure what 9.3gr or HS6 looks like in a 9x19 case, but I imagine it would be pretty close to the top.
  14. Barrels of the same length vary in velocity a bit, but my experience indicates you need 6-7% more powder per inch you take from the barrel to make the same PF.
  15. Open is my particular interest Here are some threads: EAA/Tanfoglio Chop Shop - NO SELLING OR TRADING Thinking about an Open Witness I'm thinking about buying a Tanfoglio open gun....school me.
  16. Welcome from San Diego, where are you shooting? Pala?
  17. It could take anywhere from 7.5-8.5gr depending on the bullet, OAL, barrel length, number/size of holes in the barrel.
  18. They call it "the dark side" for a reason, there's no putting it down
  19. What's a good price? You should be able to find a used manual safety model for ~$600 with is much more USPSA upgrade friendly. I'm not sure anyone makes a Production legal race hammer for the decocker models, but you could still polish and change springs.
  20. The 9mm breech face is too small for 40, so you need a 40 slide as well. Stuart Wong of CZ Custom can probably locate one for you if you want to go that route, but I would just trade your stock 9 for a 40. You could also try shooting a few matches with one of the 9s in Limited minor, you never know, you might decide you want to build one of your 9s into a custom 9 major Open gun
  21. Selling is easy: you receive payment, you ship the item. Buying requires a little more trust although I've never been burned on Enos, only Armslist, when I thought I was safe using a Postal Money Order, but the guy cashed it, never sent the gun, finally admitted he didn't even have the gun. I sent a copy if his ID/all his info to the Postal Investigation Unit, and they didn't do a damn thing.
  22. If you want to exaggerate the effect of light bullets, try some 95gr pills
  23. Oh yes, the Tanfo pictured above has 5.2" barrel with (3) 5/32" holes and chronos ~16 fps faster than my two 2011s (5.4" KKM barrel w/o holes and 5.4" Schumann w/ (2) 3/16" holes), all of which chrono 6-8% faster than a 5.25" V12 Tanfo.
