  1. The V12 Gold Team (current model) uses a standard length slide, the V8 used a long slide. The long slide models use the hour glass guide rod.
  2. The one in the Match is necked down so you can get it in under the barrel lug, I have one that isn't and I have a hell of a time getting the angle right.
  3. Mark, I think the only way to go is going to be to get the guide rod from a Hunter or one of the new 5" barrel models and cut it to fit. The guide rod just needs to stick out maybe a 1/4" when the slide is in battery, if it sticks too far into the comp, it will lock up since the comp cams back with the barrel when you pull the slide back. I would think if you smith can thread the barrel, he can make you a guide rod too? You can even turn down a bolt to make one.
  4. Loaded rounds. When I got into this sport over the summer I had a decent sized gun collection (~two dozen), many of which I sold with the anticipation that I eventually want to shoot each division and really do like shooting revolvers, so I figure now is as good a time as ever to try it. If I get the primers I was promised on Thursday, I won't be forced to make the switch, but my worries will still be there when I eventually try production, so what is your opinion? are there serious competitors out there using .38s? are moon clips that big an advantage over speed loaders? speed holster over regular? Maybe I'm making a big deal over nothing, but I don't want to sink a bunch of money into a hopeless platform.
  5. I'm looking for some advice gentlemen. I shoot Limited, but I'm running out of .40 ammo; I have a good stock (3-4K) of .38 and a perfectly good 4" GP100 with a tuned trigger in the safe so I keep flirting with the idea of switching to revo, I have a production gun and 9mm but I think I would prefer revolver. I already tried to fit my revolver in my CR Speed holster and it's a no go, so I have nothing, no holster, no speed loaders, nothing. Online I had six comp threes, two caddies and a Fobus holster in the cart, but then I had second thoughts: do I want to spend all this money on speed loaders when what I really want to do is cut the cylinder for moon clips? do I want to spend all this money on my Ruger? I would hate to spend a bunch of money to get all set up for my Ruger, only to later buy a 625 and a speed rig. I know I'm happy with my Ruger next to a 686, but it seems like shorter rounds should reload much easier, right?
  6. Range scrap is heavier than pure lead? I would expect the opposite?
  7. But a minor setback, I'm glad to hear the project is still moving forward. Did the 'smith confirm the thread pitch of the large frame comp?
  8. He probably couldn't get it to run right either, hence the discount...
  9. How much barrel is screwed into the comp? If it's .38", you can buy a small frame, longslide 9x19 barrel from EAA, thread it, drop it in and go. If you need a longer barrel you're pretty much screwed. Is the comp custom? Or a Tanfo factory part? The Tanfoglio comps I have are threaded M14x0.75, CZs are M14x1 and I think the barrel I have from the Springfield Custom Shop is threaded M14x0.5.
  10. How did you order the guide rod? Nealio's way?
  11. Save for a few draw issues, everything went pretty well last night. Since the longest stage was 18 rounds, I moved with confidence.
  12. I've found these forums are a great place to ride on the coat tails of greatness! When you see top shooters in the game shooting one particular bullet weight or another it may not be gospel, but it's certainly a good place to start. On the other hand, if you've got this wild idea no one has posted about to make the flattest shooting round in the world, it has most likely been tried and dismissed by hundreds of shooters on here.
  13. You could skip the base pads and shoot L10. I'm predicting once you get into the sport, you will quickly begin to see which Division floats your boat, then when you have the cash, you can build something specific for that. Trust me, if you start projects for project's sake, they just become money holes; I have two Open projects, two Limited, one Production and I've got a revolver it's taking every ounce of restraint to stop from machining for moon clips and buying a rig for! Enjoy your pistol with the parts you already have and enjoy the sport, hold off the buying frenzy for as long as possible.
  14. I went to look at my classifier scores on USPSA and when mistyped my member number, I saw another shooter who had joined USPSA on the same day I did. This was interesting to me, so I went backwards from my number, one at a time, then forwards and saw that 17 shooters joined USPSA on the same day I did; this is my squad. I think it might be neat to check in from time to time and see how everyone in the squad is progressing, what do you think?
  15. It's killing me to pass on this deal, but since I've essentially converted my TS to a Czechmate, my wife says I'm crazy (I say they're two unrelated issues!). NIB Czechmate for $2,650: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=330743404
  16. I shot my first match in Limited tonight, I must say it was nice not to reload! The longest stage was 18 rounds, so it was easy to focus on my movement.
  17. Ben, I've read some of your stage breakdowns and watch the videos; thank you for posting them, they're very helpful.
  18. Did you try the CR Speed WSMII? It works pretty well for my CZ.
  19. I work across the street from the Glock Store, so they are real. Like everyone they're swamped and the 800 number just rings in the store.
  20. How about a fresh one? Open: Limited:
