  1. I tried the Sprinco and sent it back; it changed the recoil feel only slightly, and what change I felt I didn't like. The secondary spring only engages at the last bit of the stroke, even less with the buffer installed, and created a sort of bounce at the end of the recoil impulse. I really wanted to love the Sprinco, I shot 200 rounds trying six different recoil springs, but in the end decided even if I did grow used to the new feel, it's not worth the price of admission.
  2. Alright gentlemen, time for an update: I've drilled and tapped the frame for a C-more mount/thumb rest and swapped the three port comp for a two port 9mm (the three port turned out to be a .40 comp with .4125" exit holes!) A friendly Czechmate shooter sent me a sample of his 9Major loads which work pretty well with the three port comp, although I can tell I'm losing a lot of gas out of the big holes. I'll be shooting with the dot for the first time tomorrow so I'll post my reactions, but for now here are the pics:
  3. True, I suppose if I built an SP01 based Open Gun, I would D&T the frame for the optic.
  4. That look's pretty cool Droopy, unfortunately I don't have any pistols with rails, but if I decide to make an Open gun out of an SP01, I might just pick one up!
  5. I shoot L10 with a fully capable Limited gun, I tell people "how am I going to get better at stage planning and reloading if I don't do either?"
  6. It looks good. I said above I was going to try it out on my beater Tanfo before drilling into my CZ, but I just could not get a hole started in the frame, Glk21C has right about the hardness. I called all around town to find someone to do it for me to no avail, so I went straight after the CZ. Very nerve racking...
  7. Did the manufacturer make a stink? Name brands are discussed pretty openly on the boards as far as I can tell...
  8. This is off topic, but what does this mean? It would be faster to type 'thumb rest' so I figure there must be a reason?
  9. I hate to be the bearer of bad news here stud, but if you break out a caliper, the TS barrel is actually about 5.08" from muzzle to breech. CZUB advertises the correct length in mm, but CZ USA can't seem to get the conversion right, it's the same with the 4.5" barrel on your Shadow. I know size doesn't matter, unless you want to compare right?!?
  10. Success!!! I drilled and tapped my Tactical Sport for a thumb rest and/or C-more mount last night on my drill press with great results. Getting the holes started is the hardest part, you need the smallest HHS drill bit you can chuck up, then work your way up 1-2 bit sizes until you get the 3.5mm hole you need for a M4X0.7 tap. Patience and cutting oil are critical, even the best bits will be trash by the time you get to the last hole. I still need to sand and touch up the black on the thumb rest where I cut it, but here are the pictures: My 'el cheapo' $20 airsoft thumb rest: Drill too fast/not enough oil:
  11. A few thousand rounds down the pipe and it still looks like new, besides the plastic head takes the impulse which would otherwise go into the slide stop.
  12. I've shot my TS with an 11# and didn't like it, you can feel the slide bog down while stripping the next round out of the mag. I don't have a spring tester, but I came back around to the stock spring which I think is 14#? I know it's lighter than 18# because I bought one of those.
  13. I don't know about "poor man's", my IMI Uzi Eagle is of the same quality as the Tanfoglios I've owned, although I've never handled an IWI Jericho; unless I'm mistaken, the IMI pistols are machined in Tanfoglio factories and assembled in Israel. If you ask me, the differences which effect performance all go to the Jericho over the Tanfo equivalent (Witness steel): -full length dust cover (in the Tanfo Line, you have to upgrade to a Stock II for a full length DC) -lightened slide (the Jericho slide is more than an ounce lighter than the Witness slide) Then among personal preferences, the Jericho has a smaller grip due to the lower hump on the back of the frame and utilizes a slide mounted safety/decocker, rather than the frame mounted safety of the Witness. The slide safety is problematic if you want to convert the Jericho to SAO as the safety cannot be applied with the hammer cocked (well... the decocker pin could be removed, but that's less than optimal), however, on the plus side for DA, the Jericho does not utilize a firing pin block (commonly removed from Witnesses for a better trigger pull). As you can see, I prefer the Jericho to the Witness for a Production division pistol.
  14. http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=49516.msg297256#msg297256 Hog hunter, if you're interested in a 9mm TS here's a older one I'm confident you could make a deal on.
  15. Rich did the weight reduction on my Limited slide, but when I talked to him about the comp, he said he only did cone comps. I'm not afraid to buy another barrel and cut a different thread on it, but as understand it, the OD of a 1911/2011 barrel is .575" and the OD of my barrel is only .550" so I'm stuck with a comp designed for a small frame Tanfo (.550" also) or something custom right? I also though about barrel ports like a Gold Team, but given the limitations on cartarage length, I don't want to waste any powder. I think the best approach for me is to find someone who will make a copy of my three port comp, but with tighter exit holes.
  16. It seems like the only scenario where it could make sense to shoot minor over major would be in Limited or SS where you trade the scoring disadvantage for more rounds in the mag (less reloads... maybe). I actually came across this thread serching for .45 minor becasue I've got a friend who shoots his Witness .45 in production and I'm trying to help him come up with a load. Has anyone tried .45 minor with 165 grain bullets? It seems like that should be similar to the .40 minor some people rave about?
  17. Is anyone making custom comps for CZs/Tanfoglios? Here's my story: I had always imagining having one frame with a .40 slide for Limited and a comped 9mm one for Open. My first idea was to get a Gold Team, then a Limited Conversion, but I heard enough bad things about the V12 to stick to CZ. CZ Custom said they would fit a .40 slide to a Czechmate for me, but I couldn't bring myself to dump over four grand on the setup, so I just bought a TS and put my Open dreams on the shelf a while. When I came across a used SP01 9mm slide and was off to the races! I threaded a 9mm TS barrel M14x0.75 for a small frame, three port Witness comp I found on Numrich, come to find out it was actually for .40, so needless to say it was less than what I had hoped for. The two port 9mm comp pictured below works, but not as well as the three port .40 comp, so my question is: is there someone out there who can copy the three port comp with tighter exit holes, or better yet, make me a custom comp with a more modern design like a Brazos Thunder comp? Thanks for your help
  18. I got a call from EAA today to let me know some items I asked about a year ago are back in stock, so I wanted to share: 6" 9mm barrel - $185 Gold Team 9mm conversion - $575
  19. If you wrap Hague grips around a large frame Tango it fills the hand a little more, although the TS is a little wider.
  20. Dozer, do you know how much weight your slide lost?
