  1. thank you very much for the reply. I think there is some misconception as to the purpose of this exercise due to the name. It is not simply building memory, I could play memory matching games with my four year old for that. It is more for building awareness and attention to details. Example for sniping is I can look at a photo for a few seconds and tell you where the most likely place for an enemy sniper to hide and where I would set up a shot. Neither are at the highest point. Example for USPSA: when I walk a stage I see everything, not just target arrays and what order I want to engage. Things I see are places where the gravel is loose, if a shooting box sticks up more on the side or the back which may determine what angle I want to enter, how many strides I need to take before I can engage the next target array etc etc. I don't think these exercises are the answer to everything and I am following Robco's other threads with great interest. My only real statement is that I know these techniques work for a shooter to increase situational awareness even while shooting, they help with overcoming tunnel vision so you don't forget the two small steel targets that blend in with berm. Hope this helps clarify. Love this forum, full of lots of very knowledgable shooters and most have a good sense of humor.
  2. I would try calling Dave and tell him what you are looking for. Since they make most of their sights in house, he may be able to do a custom order.
  3. I agree, slip has held up great for me year round through all four seasons here in Missouri.
  4. Pretty slick looking like an old gunfighter's big iron. Did you take fine steel wool to the finish during the curing process?
  5. KIM's games are typically ten objects. They can be close together on a poncho or spread out on a lawn. You only have a set amount of time to observe the objects usually not more than 90 seconds total. But the observation time is broken up in to four or five blocks and under some type of physical stress. Push ups, jogging in place whatever you want. At the end, you will number a piece of paper 1-10, draw picture of the item, list size, shape, and what it appears to be. The game can last as little as five minutes to as long as an hour or two as you progress. The length of time is from when you last observed the objects to when you record them. When you have done the games for a while you can observe the objects and then do a target detection and then record the objects from the KIM's game. After doing this for about three to four times a week for three or more weeks you will start to notice everything around you when driving, taking a walk, or at work. May seem a little silly the first time you do the exercises but they work.
  6. I am partial to JP parts. The low mass BCG is fantastic. While you are at it, go with the silent captured buffer, no spring noise in your ear. All of my ARs to include my Mega MaTen have the silent captured buffer.
  7. I tried it out for a month and decided to stop. Like others stated you get good through repetition. The things that I know for certain work on memory and situational awareness are target detection exercises and KIM's (keep in memory). Both were introduced to me in sniper school years ago and they no doubt work as intended. Look them up and give it a shot, better to do with other shooters so you can alternate setting up the course. The KIM's don't require much space or resources, the TD's a little more effort.
  8. Need a little more info from the OP. Are you going to shoot only unsuppressed, do you already have your comp on or picked out, low mass BCG, etc etc? Just as a general question I would go with a adjustable block.
  9. Unless it is a lot of material, don't dremel. Stick with 2000 grit sand paper and crocus cloth.
  10. Boots are largely personal preference but anyways . . . I go with Blackhawk warrior wear desert ops or tac ops. It is an eight inch boot as requested. It is the best boot I have worn in 20 years in the infantry and I have worn many many different ones to find the one I like the best. Only wish they were around when I was younger, might now have the knee problems I have now. I am retired now, but the last pair of the desert ops went to a year in the desert and then three more years of foot marches, ranges, demo ranges etc etc.Now as a contractor I wear the black ones. Don't skimp on the socks, good boots are only good with good socks, I go with Wigwams.
  11. There is a local open shooter here that does not have an unusual gun, but his gear is all old school leather like when USPSA was getting started old school. Leather holster, belt, mag carriers, all at extreme angles. It really caught me by surprise the first time I saw his rig with all the kydex these days. I will say that he is fast and good.
  12. Usually when I go "faster-er" I start to do terrible. But it is fun.
  13. How do you know if you wife has had an orgasm? My truck is parked in your driveway!
  14. This may have been posted before, if so, my apologies. This is funny enough to watch again.
  15. Anyone know when they are releasing the 126mm's? I had read mid February but I am sure they are pretty busy right now.
  16. I go with shooters connection based on customer service alone. Not just gear, but most parts too. Easy to call them up with questions and they take the time to answer and not rush you off the phone. All of my orders have shipped the same day.
  17. If you have the parts laying around, try changing the ignition system out starting with the disco, and then just process of elimination. Nighthawk has a good point, parts do wear out, take a good look at your hammer and sear engagement surfaces. Good luck and let us know what you find.
  18. I don't think you can go wrong either way. It will look great in ion bond with the silver trigger, safeties, and polished flats on the hammer, plus the Schuemann peeking through the lightening cuts.
  19. Big thumbs up on the VR28 lens, works well in bright light and overcast days. The tombstones do look sweet. If you are mil/leo Oakley gives a large discount.
  20. That looks pretty good, have a new grip on the way so I am going to give this a try. Do you have a recommendation on where to get the silicone carbide? Thanks.
  21. Looking like that fact I have cotton socks might be part of my problem, although going to something lightweight would be nice. That is 100% correct. Cotton socks are a huge no go. Spend the money on some fox river or wigwams. I used to shy away from spending $10 a pair but after my first trip to Iraq I did not hesitate.
  22. When you find one, hang onto it. I am still kicking myself for selling mine almost a year ago. I have given up looking for another and just decided to build it.
  23. Big thumbs up on the LF Arms mag release. Very well thought out, extended with out being over extended and looks great too. I now have three of them.
  24. Pretty much what I go with. Longer shots, I make sure I find the top of the front sight and level it with my rear. Less than 15 yards and the fiber optic is just fine.
