  1. If the lower barrel impact point was not verified or fit to accommodate the longer link the hood of the barrel could be dragging the slide just as it unlocks during recoil. I agree it is not the load. I also think the slide stop could no longer be following the lugs of the barrel. Are you sure they did not say they installed a shorter link?
  2. One of our local shooters fit a 9mm barrel in his 40cal. edge several years back for 3 gun and steel matches and it still runs reliably. He changes the extractor with the barrel when he does the swap. I was told some time back that Kimber uses the same size breach face for both calibers in their guns. I never have verified that to be sure. I think as long as you are using a ramped barrel it would work fine with a properly tuned extractor.
  3. Try loading the mag full and let it sit a few days. My 9mm RO was doing the same thing. On mine it seemed I had too much spring pressure in the mag and the top round was being held in so tight it couldn't move. I ended up buying some Dawson's and they work great.
  4. I have an older SV with the Schuman AET barrel that has about 60,000 rounds thru it. It is still quite accurate with the MG 180,s. I tried the Xtreme 180 and they tumbled so bad the holes were 1" slots cut in the target. My normal load is ramshot competition 4.6 gr @ 1.185 oal. I loaded up some Xtreme 165 to try with 5.1 gr. of competition and had a 5 shot group of 1-1/2" at about 18 yards with nice round holes! I am wondering if the lighter bullet traveling faster puts a better spin on the bullet for increased accuracy. I have since loaded up 50 each 165 flat points and hollow points for further testing for accuracy and chrono.
  5. I recently purchased a used one from the original owner that was built in 2001. I can't explain it , but there is a difference. It has been trouble free and accurate.
  6. If you like to experiment try this on one of your followers. I used a 3/8" ball mill to make the cut. Don't have any measurements to go by, I just eye balled it and so far no problems. I have arthritis in my left hand and was trying to make my mags seat a little easier with 20 rounds when I did this.
  7. I did one of mine a couple years ago. The average base thickness was .055 on mine. I reduced it to .035 and took .010 off the inside of all four sides. It did not help with capacity, but it did make it seat easier.
  8. I thinned my grip until it was pretty flexible and did this. Masked the areas I did not want epoxy on and spread a coat of regular JB weld on. Used black beauty medium grit blast media and tapped it into the epoxy. Wait about 30 minutes and remove the tape and touch up the edges with a little more media. No more flex and a great feeling grip. I have grip tape on my other guns and like this much better.
  9. This may be some what off topic but, a Caspian double stack has the smallest feeling grip to me. You might want to handle one for comparison.
  10. Gun Craft range in Ruskin might be an option. It is about 45 minutes from south Lakeland. There is a 1st Sunday match there this weekend.
  11. I fit a Brazos lightened slide to my P14 along with a barsto 40 cal bull barrel a few years back. The slide actually slid on the frame nice and snug with minimal fitting. I also modified the mag catch to run STI or SV mags. Not sure of the round count so far, but it is still tight and runs well. Doug
  12. Mine did the same thing. I removed the firing pin and spring and compared it to one that came with a Wolf recoil spring. The spring in the RO was about twice as strong as the Wolf. Put in the Wolf firing pin spring and have had no issues.
  13. My 9mm Range Officer cam with a 10# recoil spring. I put a 17# mainspring in with a Dawson Ice mag well-mainspring housing. It is a pleasure to shoot.
  14. I have a stainless aggressive. It makes recoil much softer feeling to me.
  15. So far it has been very accurate. I typically lay the gun as you see it in the picture and pull straight back. It usually repeats within .02 of a pound for three pulls. That gun averaged 1.34 pounds as the picture shows. Or 1lb. 6oz. roughly. Which is what it measures using 2 other trigger pull gauges I have borrowed and tried.
  16. I used the PT aggressive grip on my Eagle. My mag release and mag well fit the grip. You will need to use a different trigger. All my mags work well also.
  17. I am curious about the bullet feeder. What brand is it? Also was set up difficult and have you used different weight and profile bullets in it? Nice video, thanks for sharing.
  18. Thought I would add some pictures of the trigger pull adapter I made and also using it to weigh my SS 9mm.
  19. I purchased one from brownells and it works great. I bent a hook using a stiff wire-rod about .125 diameter to adapt for measuring trigger pull and it has worked very well.
  20. For me it is the STI Escort. I am 5-7" and 168# so it makes it easy to conceal. I have the 9mm version. It has been great to shoot and still holds 8 plus 1 with the shorter grip. It is very accurate with Hornady ammo and I feel the 9mm makes for quicker and more accurate follow up shots for me. Good luck on your search.
  21. You might want to talk to a local GS. I have a Trojan with factory parts that has a really nice 2# trigger. We used a 17# hammer spring and that was all I purchased. That was 6 years ago. That being said.... I purchased the Brazos trigger group when upgrading my STI Eagle to a PT grip this year. I was able to tune it to a1.5# pull. Brazos parts and service were great.
  22. I have been using the small rifle primers for a year now. One of the three guns I shoot had a few light strikes so I installed an extended firing pin. Been good ever since. I use a 17# hammer spring in all three.
  23. Sounds like a previous owner might have installed a after market mag release that raises the mag higher to help it feed better. You might be able to tell by comparing the two releases side by side.
  24. I don't know that I can say one is better than the other. I like them both for different reasons. I am a little old school and want to examine and handle something before I buy it, rather than order one. They both have ramped barrels, the Trojan has a flat top slide and undercut grip. The RO has a forged steel slide and frame. The RO was definitely cheaper to buy initially and I tend to modify everything to some extent. Plus I was very impressed with the fit of the gun. If you are able to do your upgrades yourself you will save some money with the RO. If the undercut grip feels and points better for you then go with the Trojan. So far I am very satisfied with the RO.
