  1. Nope no problems. In fact I have been doing it for years. I set the size die in position 1 to size about 75% of the total sizing, and set the trim die to finish it. Keeps the head more even without tilting away from the trim/size die, getting more consistent results. jj
  2. I also do a slight taper crimp after seat. The M die removes any inside burr, and the crimp removes any burr on the outside. A 3 way cutter is not necessary, we have been conditioned that it is thou... jj
  3. Tom, He asked about the loading head, not the processing head. This is a 2 head system... Do a dry tumble the 1st time to clean. Less mess... 1st die in the LOADING head, I use universal decap to clear tumbling media. I don't wet tumble at all. You will probably find that you will need a M die or something similar, especially with flat base bullets. I use the swage hold down die on a 1050, it's like a M die. jj
  4. Pre-process tumble to remove dirt. Apply lube and process. Tumble again to remove lube before loading... jj
  5. Who is to say that UML rules should be the standard? Why not IMA, or RM3G, or BRM3G, or any other subset of IMA... Just writing a set of rules and giving them a name doesn't make them the "standard"...
  6. Z, Stealthyblagga at SMM3G on here is a good contact for the IMA rule set. I'm surprised you don't know that...
  7. Kinda harsh saying the IMG rules are defunct, they are still being maintained and updated and there are several matches, including SMM3G, that use them...and most of the older outlaw matches started with them. So saying they are defunct is not true.
  8. Yea, it IS a pia to clean and reassemble. Even have to rezero slugs after. I thought he still had some billet lowers for the pre XN, guess I am mistaken. I got one from him 4 or so years ago. I don't think he did an upper for it. His Tac12a is quite the machine thou, answers all the problems of the XN and preXN. Pretty sure they are available... jj
  9. Dunno what your issues are, but I use my pre XN Firebird all the time. Got a Firebird lower for it and all the problems with feeding went away. jj What kind of upgrades are you wanting to do to it?
  10. The beauty of the RF is you don't have to load tubes ahead of time. You can just dump in a tray of primers, turn it on, and while it is filling it's tube go back to to pulling the handle. After 2 minutes it turns off and you should have a tube full of primers. Once you need them you load your primer mag on your loader with the tube from the RF, put it back on the RF and dump another tray of primers and go back to pulling the handle...repeat as necessary. Loading a bunch of tubes from the RF and stacking them up is a waste of time and defeating the purpose of being able to auto load the primer tube on the RF. jj
  11. Imr 4350 is sort of comparable, but not any where near as stable with temp extremes as h4350.
  12. Same thing, the 1050 can flip primers if the shell plate is loose. I wouldn't think you need a new top plastic piece, but it wouldn't hurt to try a new one. You should be able to drop a tray of primers, turn it on, and walk away from it when everything is right. jj
  13. Watch the case feeder while you are loading. I'll bet it rocks around and wiggles...that is probably your problem. jj
  14. Turn it down to where it is barely moving the primers, then up just a crack. You should then get less flipped primers. It should take the full 2 minutes to load the tube. Also, most of the time when I get flipped primers I blame the loader, not the RF. If you are using a 650, it's a likely suspect. The primer wheel coupled with a loose shell plate can easily cause flipped primers. If you can watch several tubes of primers go down the RF without flipping, it's not to blame. jj
  15. Been using my RF with Winchester primers for years, both large and small. only a couple of odd sized primers stalled things, which would happen in any primer handling system including pick up tubes... jj
  16. Why would you want to set the press further away from you? Seems it would make it harder to work on, change calibers, and be able to visually inspect powder charge, etc...
  17. Suppose you are right, kinda hard to hijack a thread that is 6 years old...
  18. You are gonna want to start a new thread instead of hijacking this one. In the meantime, do a search. I alone have posted answers to this several times... and several others have too... jj
  19. You need to post this in the classifieds, after you get to 50 posts...
  20. If you replaced the index ring, you usually would need to do an alignment after reassembly. jj
  21. Doesn't seem to happen when loading pistol for me, just rifle...
  22. Make sure that black part at the bottom of the case feed tube is pushed all the way down flush. It will work it's way out as you load and will cause the problem you are describing... jj
  23. Using a large primer disk with small primers will also cause this...?
