  1. Thanks for sharing that Jesse, I have my 12 set up the mirror image of that to load with my left hand. Even fully tightened the shell carriers still shift and tilt sometimes hanging me up. Looks like you've solved that problem.
  2. Both my G17 and my G21 will do this. If I slap a mag in with force the slide runs home chambering a round. That was great when it happens everytime. But, lately it has been inconsistent. Some times the slide returns to battery without picking up a round. I'm not sure why. There have been times I pulled the trigger on an empty chamber and other times not knowing for sure if it chambered a round I 've racked the slide only to kick out a live round. Maybe my mag springs are getting a bit weak. Maybe I should slap it home and keep my eyes on the ejection port to see if it's picking up a cartridge. Not sure but the slide stop/release is more consistant
  3. I'm running a carbon arms mag tube 10+1 and I would get the occasional failure to feed. I discovered when I trimmed the 42inch Nordic spring it was too short. Should be 12-14 inches past the end of the extension. I had cut it 12 inches past the threaded tube, not taking into account the extension. New spring cut 14 inches past the extension functions great. Also I can't perceive any more tension loading ecxept for the last two shells are a bit stiffer to load. Been thinking about a 12+1 or 14 + 1 recently.
  4. Thanks , I have emailed the 3 gun match director and gave him some specifics about my shooting experience and he said, "come on and shoot" So I'll be shooting the Sept 20th 3 gun match at UDPL. I can't wait, looks like a fun place to shoot.
  5. Like I said I'm no rules expert. Just an example of how in stage design you must be very specific and even then someone will find a flaw and exploit it
  6. A recent match I shot had a rope line from left to right across the entire pistol bay. Targets left, right and center. Left and right had targets at the rope and others at the back of the bay obscured by barrels forcing you to go far left and far right to engage them. The two targets at the rope line were to be shot with 4 rounds each weak hand only from the start box which was centered on the rope.line. Then you could proceed and engage the others targets at will. Initially the close targets were only shot from the box and not re-engaged but someone realized there was nothing stated in the stage brief prohibiting you from re-engaging the close targets as you went to each side of the rope line. There were a couple of pissed off shooters who did not re-engage and took penalties for misses or poor shots. They shot it how it was intended but NOT the way it was written in the stage brief. Once the first guy re-engaged everyone else did the same. The addition of the word "only" in the brief saying where you could shoot those two close targets from would have prevented re-engaging them. Gamers gonna game!
  7. I'm no rules expert but if there is nothing specifically in the rule book against it and IF the Match Director or stage designer wanted them shot only after activation then the stage brief should have stated that. Otherwise it's shoot'm as you see'm.
  8. Titegroup under lead bullets looks like you're shooting black powder. You still get some smoke with coated bullets and titegroup but much, much less. I load Bayou Bullets over Titegroup in .45 Auto, very little smoke.
  9. I was hesitant to try the Salomons due to the fanboy trendiness. I usually wear Merrell high tops but my merrells were getting pretty worn and summers in the south mean matches shot mainly on early morning wet grass. I never felt my footing was very secure in those conditions with the Merrells. So I tried the Speedcross 3 and I'm impressed with the grip on wet grass, dirt and gravel. Very secure planted feeling. I can see where they are not ideal for hard surfaces like smooth concrete or tile since I get a bit of that nobby dirt bike tires on asphalt squirmy feel from the soles on my kitchen floor. But for the price I like them and they're not such a specialized shoe that I need to change them if I stop at the grocery store on the way home from a match. YMMV
  10. I'm trying to figure out the correct front height for my G17.
  11. Anyone here shoot with UDPL in Utah? I'll be in SLC for the month of Sept for business and saw that they have a 3 Gun match on Sept 20th. The problem is their website says "no new shooters" in the 3 gun match. "You must have participated in at least one previous event at UDPL to shoot 3 Gun. " That's not possible. I've shot a few multi gun matches this past year and have shot IDPA and Steel Challenge and a few USPSA matchs over the last 4 years at my local club. ~Willz
  12. "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." –Mark Twain "Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great." –Mark Twain just a couple of my favorite.
  13. All my Glocks soot the case. Doesn't matter the load, light of heavy but I do not shoot max loads in any of them either.
  14. Here is to wishing your wife a full and speedy recovery. it was good to meet you.JC Thanks Jim, I'll pass along the well wishes. it was nice meeting you as well. ~Willz
  15. I'm with you. With my 24" Beretta I ran a Pure Gold Chokes spreader or improved cylinder with 1150 fps Remington Gun Club #8's on all but one stage. I shot a Carlson's light modified on stage 4 due to the dueling tree and 32 yard clay. I know of at least one in my squad that used Full on stage 4 and shot the tree with buck then all the clays down range of the stop stick for the tree from the that spot. I just used LM all weekend.
  16. I contacted Rose Action Sports today. Steve was very helpful. He suggested I contact Remington before sending it to him. I did and the lady I spoke to told me the Versa Max I bought new this past Feb was made in 2011. She said that's odd because most VMs don't stay on the shelf for more than a year. So they sent me a shipping ticket and I'm sending it out tomorrow. (He also told me the jig doesn't really work for the VM just the Benelli. )
  17. I broke a clip on one of my 2.8 carriers this past weekend going prone on a stage with a mini-van to shoot out the back. I adjusted my belt to the rear and was not laying directly on it but I had to roll to one side and heard the clip snap. I contacted Kevin and asked to purchase replacement parts. He replied almost immediately and asked me to send a pic of the damage so he could send the correct parts free of charge. 6 minutes after I sent a reply with a pic, he replied and said it would be mailed out today. Can't thank Kevin enough. He makes a great product and goes above and beyond in attention to his customers. Thanks Kevin! Will
  18. This was my first big match and it was awesome. Woody's is a great place for such events and I can't say enough about all the people I met. I was especially pleased to see so many Lady shooters. It inspired my wife to get involved, as they were all very encouraging and friendly toward her. Hopefully she'll be shooting matches by next summer. I'm looking forward to my next match at Woody's and to more big events there. Oh and yes, it is possible to short stroke a pump and load a shell but not set the hammer. I did it on nearly every stage. Ejecting a live shell every time. My goal for the future ; shoot each stage with zero penalties.
  19. Great info I've been shooting with TruGlo TFOs and I'm now finding them too busy and the front post too wide.
  20. Thanks for that info. My Versa Max with a Carbon Arms tube patterns birdshot high and right and slugs at 15 yards are high right from POA approx 8 inches high and 12 inches right. I was going to shoot it at the Versa Max shotgun challenge but after messing with stock adjustments and the dovetailed rear sight with little change in POI, I'm using my Win 1200 pump. It shoots exactly where I look.
  21. I've never been to Woody's what's the layout as far as distance between stages. Is it spread out like The Clinton House?
  22. I'm not nearly good enough to justify that kind of money either but a pair of Oakley g30 lenses cost $60 for my current pair of sunglasses and just swap the lenses out. I may give Oakley another look. Everything I've tried from Oakley hurt my head.
