  1. exactly what is happening in there FTF?
  2. WOW!! Blast from the past. I totally forgot about the Vic Lite load data insert. I bought my first Vic Lites at the first USPSA Nationals held at PASA Park. I shot mine from a 3 chamber, 4 port comp of my own design, built by Jake Kempton at Accuracy Speaks. While the .38Super single stacks were still THE gun to shoot, most mistook my .45 for a Super because it stayed so flat. Accurate arms has loads for AA #2, #5, #7, N100 and S1000. One favorite load site I found adds these MAX loads: Bullseye 6.9gr, Unique 7.8gr, Universal 7.6gr, Clays 5.2gr, HP38 8.0gr, and WW540 8.5gr. Standard warnings apply. YMMV.
  3. I just stick the eraser end of a pencil in the top case in the feeder tube and slide it out.
  4. I went from a Plaxco (anyone remember them) to an Ernie Hill 666 to a CR Speed. Early on I used a Milt Sparks AT1 with my 1911. I now use my CR Speed with my Para P14-45. I have never dropped my pistol from any of them.
  5. it looks like erosion to me. There appears to be a shallow cone of erosion around each port. Is the PMC the yellow box? In the early 90s we tried different ammo at dusk; both through comps and standard A2 flash supressors. With IMR4895 we got a dull glow in the first chamber of a 2 chamber 4 port comp. With the PMC we had bright yellow flames 2 feet to each side of the comp. Very impressive. I wish I could locate the pics. Locally we warned people off of the PMC yellow box .223/5.56 ammo. With the IMR4895 and the A2 suppressor we had no discernable muzzle flash. The malaysian surplus 5.56 made about a 1" flash from the A2.
  6. those who load 5.56 on a 1050; how about this setup? 1. RCBS lube/deprime die 2. Dillon carbide sizing die 5. Redding Competition Seater die 6. Redding Taper crimp die I would use the carbide sizer without the decapping pin and adjust the stem all the way down to hold the case down just like the stem in the Dillon swage die setup. or maybe 5. powder check die 6&7 as 5&6 above
  7. any picture of Lisa on the Front Sight cover is welcome. She is a class lady and great fun to shoot with.
  8. it seems some of you are getting a small taste of what it is like to have a chronic condition. I pray you all recover quickly.
  9. anyone with blood pressure concerns or on medication, check with your Pharmacist not your Doc. The Pharmacist is schooled in the interaction of drugs and off the shelf products.
  10. perhaps it is just the shooter. I had a friend who bought nothing but the best equipment. It never worked for him and it worked for everyone else. I even saw an M1 Garand malfunction while he was shooting in a local DCM match, using a club rifle. It worked for the shooter before him and the 2 shooters after but not for him. We even tried swapping guns back and forth among shooters. He could make anyones 1911 malfunction. I referred to his condition as a "brown Midas". Everything he touched turned to sh#@.
  11. 1.16" 40s tend to have feeding problems in 45 length magazines. The 1911 was meant to feed .45acp. When you go away from it you can have problems.
  12. I would REALLY try to have her shoot a minor 45, loaded with 155s. Only 810fps. Would be total pussycat compare to 115s at 1100fps
  13. I have an original 1050, not the Super 1050 and at the swaging station there is no 'belling function'. Is this a Super 1050 addition?
  14. Try Eric Grauffels' web page. There is a left side scope mount for the Tanfoglio which I think is an EAA Witness clone. Also try www.henningshootsguns.com he has several scope mounts for EAA/Tanfoglio
  15. Oh, I REALLY hope those are HER legs!
  16. Bart, we need PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!
  17. If you are in the Phoenix area over a Tuesday night you can go out to Rio Salado and see the Tuesday Night Steel Shoot. OVER 130 shooters do a 4 stage match in under 4 hours. On Thursday evening you can see the Paper and Steel Match at Ben Avery, formerly the world famous Black Canyon range. On any weekend you can see a USPSA match at Rio or once a month an ICORE match. Vic Picket is usually at that one. Matt Burkett and Rob Leatham are often at the Rio matches. OOPS, I just checked the club calender. The Tuesday Night Steel is a go. On the last weekend of the month you can see the Western States Single Stack match. The best 1911 shooters in the world will be there!!!!
  18. High Velocity, with your Bren 10 you best be sure you have MAGAZINES. The lack of mags about killed Dornhaus and Dixon. hk mtbr, who is the lady standing above you? I really think I have met her somewhere. In a pistol my Holy Grail would be a toughie. One possibility would be EGW building a full house 9X23 race gun on a Caspian wide body. The other would be a Kodiak Custom (Don Golembeski) carry gun. A Caspian wide body in titanium with an SVI aluminum slide (that they do not sell retail) having the interchangeable breach face. It would primarily be in 9X23 for CCW with a 10mm Norma top end for carry in Brown Bear (Kodiak) country.
  19. you CAN use a 650 like a single stage press, just do not use the case feeder and do not feed a second case until the first is done. This way you are learning all of the steps just like on a single stage press. Once you are comfortable with how the press functions then you can hand feed cases continuously if you like or buy the case feeder. It IS a lot of press to start with and I agree that the 550 probably would be a better FIRST press. You never outgrow the 550 since it will load anything except the .50BMG. If you shoot rifle it is the press you want.
  20. the H&G #68 200gr SWC is designed so that the part of the bullet that contacts the chamber is EXACTLY the same as the part of a 230gr FMJ RN bullet that contacts the chamber during feeding. Any gun that feeds ball should feed H&G #68. The lighter SWC are usually make lighter by removing the bevel base or even shortening the cylindrical part of the bullet. I have shot many thousands of 155gr SWC .45s through my 1911 series 70 Colt. I started with the then standard IPSC load of 5.7gr if WW231 under an H&G#68 200gr SWC. That was what I was shooting when I had a triple chamber comp installed in 1987. I went to the 185, then 178, then 175 and finally the 155/152gr SWC. During all the bullet changes I never needed to change the barrel or magazines. I just unloaded one of my Metalform 8 round magazines. It has been loaded for `12 years. The cartridges, loaded with 155gr SWC measure 1.256 to 1.269. A variation of 0.013". These fed through my single stack comp guns like the proverbial poop through a goose.
  21. what is meant by "Major 9"? Is it a 9X19 loaded to 1.169" and running WAY over SAAMI spec? Is it a 9X19 case loaded to longer than 1.169"? Back in the late 1980s I had a buddy who shot what I called a Super 9. It was a 9X19 case with a 160gr RN bullet loaded to 1.24" just like many .38 Supers. I don't know if Paul Miller invented it but he did design the 160gr RN bullet with the lube groove right down near the base of the bullet allowing the bullet to be seated long.
  22. if you have not been doing this, do it now. Talk to people. Say hi to those folks you have read about. They are great people. In 2000 I was mistakenly put in the womens' Super Squad. There I was with all of my heroes. My hands did not stop shaking the entire first day. BUT, they were so NICE. Great fun to shoot with. Above all, remember to have FUN!!
  23. I went to the link above. I think it is THE BEST advice on cross-dominant shooting I have ever seen. Pure GENIUS!!!
  24. there is a section of highway, containing the 101 in Metro Toronto that is 16 lanes wide. I have been there.
