Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I recently attended a "Bullseye 101" course for that discipline. There was a detailed discussion from some top military rifle shooters regarding what THEY meant by natural point of aim, and it was very complex, including shooting between the opening and closing of heart valves for absolute stillness. The instructor said it is more accurate to say pistol shooters, albeit Bullseye shooters, need to accept a natural "area of aim". The arc of movement of a pistol held one-handed is much, much greater than a rifle. BUT the goal is to still try to minimize that arc of movement, accept your personal area of aim [which hopefully will be in 9-10 ring area], and bring the trigger back without disturbing the sight alignment/sight picture. I don't think this is exactly what the poster had in mind, but I do think the concept has some traction in USPSA. By the way, I am one of those fat old guys who shoots very accurately, but very slowly. I know, I know- the only way to shoot faster is to . . . . shoot faster.
  2. Thomas Moore, pictures of the new product would be great. Thanks.
  3. Bill, Thank you for everything you have done for the shooting sports in Fairbanks, Alaska during your hiatus from the national and international scene. Bill has been a guiding figure and a never ending source of encouragement and information for many, many folks here. He and Kathleen are tireless supporters of our ragged band of shooters at the Edge of the Empire. Bill's shop is not only THE place to buy quality equipment and secure invaluable advice, but it is also the gathering place for shooters. He works full time and then opens his shop in the evenings. So, even though the Filiagas may not have been traveling the circuit in America and Beyond these last few years, it does not mean they have not left their mark on the hearts and minds of many, many folks in Alaska. Thanks, Bill and Kathleen. God bless and Godspeed in all your endeavors. Mike McConahy, eternal rookie.
  4. Awesome tips. I have tried the hemostat approach, but the bore brush trick is brilliant. I also like the solution of nipping the tube, but will try the bore brush trick first. I do try to hand sort, but I inevitably miss some. Thanks. Mike
  5. Zhunter, Mea culpa. My search fu is weak. Yours is strong. Thank you for the link. Mike
  6. I use an XL 650 with a case feeder. I like it and it works well with varius calibers [.32, .38, .357, .40, and .45]. Despite my best efforts, I still get the occasional wrong caliber in the mix. For instance, a 40 will sit inside a 45 case. Then it will not drop into station one because it is too long. The problem is that the case feed tube is full and the last case is holding open the micro-switch, which is above where you can remove the case feed tube. So I fiddle with either trying to force the column up from the bottom or to fish the last case out from the top, both of which are like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time. How do others remove the feed tube in these situations? Thanks. Mike
  7. I thought I posted this once, but I can't find it. The interwebs are mysterious. I am a new USPSA shooter using a Kimber Warrior. Any suggestions for the a good magwell? Thanks. Mike
  8. Thanks, shooters. I will order a CED unit from Chuck.
  9. Sean, I look forward to any information on cast 200g FP you may have. I have 1K Colorado Cast bullets, but can't find any load data for them in my books. I, too, am new to loading 40.
  10. Folks, just starting this sport. Ordered a CED 7000 based on the great feedback from this forum. But I am having trouble getting load recipes for Colorado Cast 200g FP for 40SW . Some advice, which sounds good, is to "chronny, chronny, chronny". This slope is not only slippery, but also very steep, eh? In any event, it looks like I a need a chronny. Any suggestions for a first timer, such as PACT vs CED or any particular model? I thank you, but I am sure my kids would rather the money stayed in the estate instead of shooting supplies!
  11. Happy New Year. I recently bought an XD and an XDM in .40 for my son and I . We have shot enough UMC factory ammo to accumulate 1K plus of brass and the Dillon caliber conversion and dies for .40 for the XL 650 are on the way. I picked up 1K Colorado Cast 200g lead FP bullets. The problem is that I can't find any load data in Lyman, Speer, or Hornady for this particular bullet or anything close to it. Although I am not particularly timid, I have never loaded for .40 and prefer not to experiment with my first reloads. I am not looking to make Major with these loads. For now it is just for practice so PF is not an issue. I have Bullseye, 231, Unique, WST, VV 310, and Clays on hand. There may be some internet resources I didn't check, but so far I have struck out. I am at a loss in the cold and the dark [-45 in Fairbanks] and appreciated any suggestions for powder and COL recipes for this particular bullet. Also, once I use up these bullets, any suggestions on a particular bullet that could be used in USPSA competition but still be pleasant to shoot? Happy New Year. Everyone. Mike
  12. Memphis, the ability to practice quietly with the 7000 clinches the deal. I am up way before my Trophy Wife, and large beeps would not be healthy for husbands and other living things. N
  13. Thanks for the tips. MDA, the link didn't work. I tried a manual search and found a lot of input regarding PACT units, but most of the information is several years old. Has PACT fallen from grace? The CED products look fine. The 7000 looks very handy, especially for practice, but what practical features are given up over the 8000? thanks again.
  14. Just getting into USPSA shooting. I am in the midst of a clinic and I see the value of a shot timer. Any suggestions as what to get? I don't mind getting a good timer to start with. Thanks. Mike
