as I said, I think that blanket statements of what IS or WILL BE should be avoided. Since none of us can predict the future I think we should be taking care to reload carefully and not predict disasters.

i have not had any complaints about excessive noise from my 9x23. My comp has 5 chambers with 5 top ports.

Guy, at very different times, I have had 2 .45acp with double charges of WW231. The base load was 5.7g under a 200gr hard cast SWC. I disagree. You will not 'take your gun apart'. The first time I did not know what happened. Suddenly I was standing with my hands about 1' apart, my 1911 was on the ground pointing uprange, slide closed. The bottom of the magazine, the spring and 7 rounds were on the ground. The RO opened my pistol and ejected a .45acp case with the case head blown out. Visual inspection showed no damage to the pistol and I continued to use that pistol another 5 years before selling it. The second time I was using a buddys pistol and his reloads. This time I did not drop the pistol. Again the mag bottom blew out with the spring and remaining cartridges. The slide could not be cycled by hand. The bushing was removed and a mallet used to hammer the slide forward until the slide lock could be removed. Upon inspection the slide was bowed out on each side adjacent to the chamber. Again the case was found with the web blown out. The frame and barrel were not damaged. So, while one pistol was damaged, it most certainly was not take apart . This is not to say that it cannot happen, but to make a blanket statement that a double charge of 231 will 'take your gun apart' with a 1911 is at the very least an exaggeration. so Todd had a mag problem. Big deal. Every make of guns has had a mag problem once in a while. I have a 9x23 built on a frame kit. I also have a P14-45 that has given me no trouble at all. Based on MY experience I recommend Paras. If you dont like them don't recommend them. Don't make a big deal out of it.

I am 57. I wore glasses since just before I started grade one. My eyes were damaged by the measles. I had lasik about 4 years ago. I was somewhere around 20/400 in my 'good' right eye. Much worse in the left. My vision was so poor that my hand was blurry only 12 inches from my face. I was corrected to 20/15 with thick glasses. After lasik I can drive without glasses. I am 20/40 in my right eye and 20/60 in my left eye. I do miss being able to see better than 20/20 but not so much that I regret having lasik done. After 45+ years of wearing spectacles I can now get out of bed without first reaching for my 'eyes'. I could go back for another go round with lasik. I could wear corrective lenses to get back to 20/20 or better. I am happy where I am.

I used only hard cast bullets in my .45acp. Even when I went to 155gr at 1150fps I used hard cast and had no leading problem.

I was returning from the 2000 USPSA Nationals/Hemisphere Championship. Outside of "Resume Speed" Oklahoma late Saturday evening my van quit running, almost. I limped into a motel and got stung for a double king room. The only room left. I managed to get it ALMOST to a restaurant the next morning. I walked in the rain to the restaurant, called road service and had a nice breakfast while I waited. Had a coffee with the Highway Patrol who I saw checking out my van. My van was carried, not towed, 75 miles back the wrong way on Sunday. Deposited van in dealer lot and got another overpriced motel for Sunday night. Monday, 7am I am at the dealership. No one in sight. Walk down the block for breakfast. 8am, back at the dealership. Again, no one. Walk back to motel. 9am, I am standing at the door when the dealership opens. Service writer tells me they never open before 9am. "no one would come in earlier". Find out my fuel pump has died. Fairly common for a 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan. BARELY still on warrantee. Need to go over to the next COUNTY 120 miles away for the only fuel pump in 500 miles . Back to the motel. Explain to the manager, who appears to be from India that I am broke, cannot afford another charge for the motel room and may I PUHLEEZE keep my stuff in the room until my van is repaired. He agrees. Finally at about 4pm my van is repaired. I go back to the motel. My room key does not work. I get the housekeeper to call the manager, he tells her to open the room. I load up and get outta town. I am 20 miles from home and I run out of gas! New fuel pump has new fuel level sender. It does not read the same as the old one. My cell phone is dead. I walk up the road to a Sheriff Deputy doing some kind of road block for road work. He kindly allows me to use his cell to call for roadside assistance. They want a call back #. I explain, again, that I am using a police officers phone. One hour and 15 later the gas guy shows up with 2 gallons of gas. The only thankyou I have for the cop is an ice cold diet pepsi on this 105 degree Maricopa county evening. He was in an open sided jeep. So, I finally get home, after midnight, 2 days late.

I suggest doing what some IPSC shooters in southern Michigan did. They were looking for a range. They found a small muzzle loader club that had open membership and not many members. They all joined the club. At the annual election they voted the new IPSC shooters into all club executive positions and took over the club! We need enough shooters to join AARP and turn it into the largest PRO-GUN senior organization.

i am amazed you have so much lead. I would try a different brand of bullet. I shot 155gr swc 45 in my comp gun for years. I would clean the barrel every 1000 rd or so. I used the old brush and chore boy technique. I just sounds to me like you had some really soft bullets.

as the owner of a P14-45 I say put on the Dawson mag pad and go for it. You are reentering shooting after a sabbatical and trying a new game. I see no reason to not try the new division with your Para. You will not be at any major disadvantage. Go for it, have fun!

I have always used a standard carbide 9x19 die for sizing my 9x23 brass. I have not seen any coke-bottle effect and have no sizing, flaring, seating, crimping or feeding problems

I have always used WSR primers in my 9x23. It runs normal pressures higher than any other pistol cartridge. SAAMI rating is 46,000PSI.

back when the 45acp was king of ipsc we all pretty much used the same load. A 200gr swc over 5.7gr of WW 231. What happened? Now people are using 185, 230gr. Why did the 200 fall out of favor?

The penalty for a C or D hit in ICORE is HUGE. To give it perspective, score all As and then add the penalty seconds to your time and Comstock the score. Those penalty SECONDS kill you! Let us say it is a 20rd stage. In ipsc that is 100 pts possible. You do it clean in 15 seconds. 100*15=6.666. Shoot one C now you have 99*15=6.600. 6.600*6.666= 0.990. So it cost you 1% of the stage score. Now ICORE scoring . Down zero in 15 seconds. You score 15. Shoot one C. Plus 1 second. You score 16 seconds. 16*15= 0.937. That C cost you 6.3% of the stage score. No wonder people slow down for ICORE. apologies, there is no divided-by symbol on my keyboard. On my numeric pad they substituted the * for the divided-by symbol.
