    Zen Practice

When we're deluded, there's a world to escape to. When we're aware, there's nothing to escape. Bodhidharma
  2. For my Glock 32C I carry a Bianchi Model 82. When I carry a full size 1911, I carry it in an el Paso Saddlery Snap Off Elite thumbreak model.
  3. My everyday work/carry gun is a 32C. It's a little intense, but man is it accurate. No modifications other than Heinie Straight 8 night sights and a grip plug.
  4. sfchorn is correct. the original prototype was the Browning designed Model 1905 .45 pistol, and it did not have a grip safety. Google 1905 .45 pistol and you can see pictures of the gun. I last shot one in 1972 at 29 Palms, CA.
  5. It depends on how bad my knees are hurting that day.
  6. How about "I respect you but..." Ot the military variation "With all due respect..."
  7. Welcome to the forum, and ai also prefer Glock pistols.
  8. I joined after figuring out the folks here know more about shooting that anywhere else I've found, and are willing to answer questions and be helpful. They are good guys, and I've actually net a few of them in person and they are as helpful in person as they are on the forum. Welcome, and have fun.
  9. Lumpygravy: Are you related to Waveygravy in the Woodstock movie? You know, the guy from the Hog Farm Commune?
  10. Man them open guns are loud! go with both. I spent a few year in an artillery battery (175MM and 8 Inch self propelled) and some of the guys didn't pay attention when they were told about hearing protection. A lot of them are near stone deaf as they near 60 years old. I used teh ear protection and I still have suffered some hearing loss from years of shooting with only cheap muffs or improperly installed earplugs. I'm amazed how many shooters of high powered rifles I can get to improve their shooting by doubling up their ear protectction. As some here have mentioned, it is not just for you shooting, it's for the guys shooting next to you.
  11. Welcome from South Mississippi. This is a great forum with some of the most helpful and knowledgeable folks around.
  12. Push in on the firingpib plunger/safety, and while you are hilding it depressed, shake the slide back and forth. You should be able to hear the firing pin shaking back and forth. If it doesn't, the previous owner may have gunked up the firing pin channel. There should not be ANY oil (as in none, nada, zip) in the firing pin channel, and whil trap and hold carbon, eventually making "black concerete." Also check teh trigger bar spring, and ensure that it is installed correctly. The spring should form an "S" shape when installed correctly.

    Truth

If the truth is already clear, what is the use of meditation? And if the truth is hidden, it is already clear." SARAHA
  14. I know how some of you fell. My 59 year old body reminds me constantly of the abused I piled upon when I was young. Arthoscopic surgery six (6) times on the right knee, left ankle srcewed together twice (this is the one that got me a medical fro the USMC), Three level spinal fusion in my neck at C-5, C-6, and C-7, and then the biggie. In 2001 I had a two level micro-laminectomy (medical for trinning of the squeezed out disc) on L-5 and L-7. Afterm 6 month out AI was on light duty for three months. and then 4 weeks after return to full duty I was rear ended in I-10 by a lady that wasn't paying enough attention to see the big, white marked unit with the flashing blue lights. That caused lumbar spine surgery #2, which was a complete removal of the discs at L-5, L-6 and L-7. I now have carbon fiber implants instead of discs, with a bunch of screws. rods, brackets, some kind of u-joint looking things installed from the back. did i mention that they took out the discs from the front? Then on the 29th of August, 2005 we experienced Hurricane Katrina. during teh height of the storm I fell and when I butt-slammed to the station floor, the result was compression fractures where every screw in my vertabrae was (were? That word confuses me). The docs said dthey wouldn't heal unless most of the hardware was removed. That cost another six months or so off from work. And would you believe it, I feel so lucky. I can run a little bit, albeit not so fast. I am still working (29 years as a police officer this month), and I think USPSA is a blast. I never thought that at this age I would be improving at anything except maybe sleeping. When I see some of the people that are so less blessed than me, I am grateful. Keep shooting!

    Which one?

    .45. Hydra-shok or Ranger SXT
  16. Glock 35 with stock trigger, Glocvk 24 with Vanek: the Vanek is worth the money. I am planning to buy a Vanek for the 35. I mailed Vanek Custom a money order on Wednsday, and got the new trigger on Monday. How's that for service
  17. For me, those "I got it moments" usually come well after someone much more experienced and wtih much more skill has been trying to convince me, and after repetitive session, I finally "got it!)
  18. I've been reading Hunter since the 90's, and it is really cool the way he ties characters from teh past to those in the future. My favorite is the 47th Samurai, with Dirty White Boys a close second.
  19. Pantera Cowboys From Hell Megadeth Tears In A Vial Foo Fighters Little Nicky Metallica For Whom the Bell Tolls Linkin Park One Step Closer Megadeth Take No prisoners Systen of a Down Innervision Rob Zombie Superbeast Ravel Bolero (Who can forget the movie 10?)
  20. Change now and you won't regret it. The FO front sight will just jump out at you.
  21. This is the least contntious site I have ever visited, and has some of the most knowledgeable and helpful people you could find. Welcom, and do not hesitat to ask the guys and gals here anything. You can almost always find you answer.
  22. NO THOUGHT If you want to awaken it is necessary to always observe and examin yourself. When errant thougts suddenly arise, do notgo along with them at all; reduce thm, reduce them, reduce them, until you reach the point of non-contrivance, which is the ultimate act. Therefore it is said that even as you fullu cultivate myriad practices, only no thought is to be considered a basis. Chinul
  23. I have two of the JP's and never even noticed that little cut out. I never had a rpoblem with it, so maybe that's why I never noticed it.
  24. I have both Dawson and Arrendondo base pads. Mine worked better with Dawson base pads when I replaced the springs that came with the kit with ISMI springs. I then went a little farther, and used clippers to trim off the back of the stock followers, then beveled the edges, and sanded. They all seem to work without a problem. I can only seem to get 18 rounds in the Dawson pad equipped mags, and 20 in the Arrendondo equipped mags. I have tried switching the foloowers around, but it doesnt seem to matter. The Dawsons hold two less rounds, but they are easier to take apart and clean if dropped in powder like dirt. shoose your poison!
