  1. Glock 24, 185 grain Precision Moly, 5.1 grains of WSF, 1.129 OAL. I have gone as low as 4.9 WSF, and they were soft shooting, but I also have a Glock 35 and with 4.9 grains they were just under major. The extra .2 grain allows both the 35 and the 24 to go major with the same load.

    Fear

"We may conclude that while there will usually be notime for fear to develp, on those occasions when there is time, fear should be deliberately overcome by anger in order to maintain control for the action to come." Jeff Cooper What do you think? Can anger allow you overcome fear? Can an angry person exhibit control? Is it a conumdrum?
  3. That's why some call the start button the "delete" button. Each time there is a perfect plan in place, and the RO pushes "the delete button," and the whole plan goes on to the trash can. At least for me.
  4. Welcome to the forums. Your avatar alone is worth a reply. I'm in Mississippi, and on the Gulf coast we have losts of LSU fans.

    Proficiency

A person who is said to be proficient at the arts is like a fool. Because of his foolishness in concerning himself with just one thing, he thinks of nothing else and thus becomes proficient. He is a worthless person. Yamamoto Tsunetomo 1658-1719
  6. When I installed my Vanke trigger in my 24, there was lube in the trigger bar/connector area that was most probably Slide Glide. I have never used Slide Glide on Glocks before, but it seems to be working very well.
  7. It most assuredly is the hand/trigger realtionship as has been mentioned before. We were doing range qualifications this week, and one of our officers was consistently low left. I was not succesful in convincing him that teh sights were not off, and that it was a combination of pre-ignition pus (PIP) and too much trigger finger. We had the officers fire from 30 yards (not part of the qualification, but training), and this guy was off the paper. I had him shoot slow fire from a standing, sanbag rest from 30 yards; right in the center in about a a 6"circle. Then had him shoot groups from the prone, and good shooting again. When we had back at teh 15 yard line, from the holster, low left again. But, we wer able to improve his shooting over the course of the afternoon his shooting improved because he accepted the idea that the pistol shot straight.
  8. If you go back and read the original novel, M takes awaay Bond's .25 auto Beretta after it gailed to stop SMERSH assassin Rosa Kleb.
  9. I have used the Precision 185 grain moly coated bullets in a Glock 35 and a Glock 25, with no problems. Before that I was shooting 180 hard cast lead, without any issues.

    Glock 24

I load a 185 grain Precision over 4.9 grains of Winchester Super Field. It makes major out of the 24, but falls just short from the 35. I bumped eh laod to 5.2 grains and it makes major in both guns, and I dont have to worry about two different loads. Even at 5.2 grains, the recoil is pretty soft out of the 24. I load for an OAL of 1.1295, and between teh lenght and the shape of the Precision moly coated bullet have not a a feeding problem.
  11. Bill T, I got you by a year or so. My longest shots were at 500 yards, but my most im[pressive shooting was at 350, which is my "normal" long range shots. All of the rounjds fired through my Kimber have been factory new GMM, save for one box of Winchester Supreme Ballistic Slvertips in 168 grain. They shot well, but I don't have the access to them that I do the GMM.
  12. In the old days, everyone loaded 2.7 grains of Bullseye and a 148 grain hollow base wadcutter in .38 Special. It was really accurate, and really dirty.

    Glock 24

Here's my G24, alongside my G35. Stippled grip, Vanek trigger, JP magwell and Warren Sevigny sights.
  14. Federal does make a .300 Win Mag load in the Gold Medl Match. My department gets them on a state contract price, along with the .308 GMM. I have a 2007 Kimber 8400 Tactical in .308 that AI ordered just after teh introduction at the SHOT Show on'07, and received 27 September,2007. So far I have fired over 4000 rounds through it, and it still shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inxh groups off the bipod. If I sand bag the front, it will; do better, but that is a reflection of my abilities, not shortcomings of the rifle.
  15. I started in the late '70's on a Herter's press. Talk about a single stage monster! It weighed about three times what a Rockchucker did. I loaded thousands of .38 Special 148 HBWC's over 2.7 grains of Bullseye. After I got hired as a police officer in 1982 (we were issued 4" Model 66 revolvers) I started loading 158 grain leas semi-wadcutters because they were easier to get in the cylinder using speed-loaders. I also loaded a pile of .45 ACP lead 200 grain semi-wadecutters over 6.0 grains of WW 231. I stopped reloading about 1990-, only to get re-started when I took up USPSA in July of 2010.
  16. Not all SFP scopes are calibrated for Mil Dot ranging at maximum power. I have a Burris XTR (Extreme Tactical), 3-12 X50, that is calibrated for ranging at 10X. The power adjustment ring is marked at the 10X setting.
  17. +1 on Lapua now making and selling .260 brass. I've shot .260's, 6.5 Creedmore's and 6.5 X 47 Lapua's. Take your pick. They all shoot very accurately and very consistently, with some slight difference in muzzle velocity.
  18. I've been shooting a G35 for about 10 months, but about two months or so ago I bought a new G24. I normally use a Wolff Competition Spring Kit in my non-duty Glocks, as I thought (wrongly, of course) that one of the expensive custom trigger assembl;ies would not be worth the money. Then I shot a Glock belonging to an acquaintance that had the Vanek trigger. Man, what a difference. I sent Vanek Custom a money order on Wednsday, and the mail brought by a piroity mail box on Monday. I annot vouch for everyone else, but this thing works for me. It is lighter, less take up, and no overtravel. and it goes ban everytime, with the Winchester primers or the CCI 500's. The total price, including shipping and insurance was $178.00 and was worth every penny.
  19. Maybe I'm backwards, but my genuine Glock armorer tool kit came with a factory tool that works well, and is thin enouh that you are not likely to generate enough torque to twist off onne of those itty bitty screws.
  20. I still reload on a single stage, and I too have noticed that the nickle brass seems to split more often. With my single stage I can feel the difference when sizing. It's hard to explain but the handle kind of feels mushy. I have only felt this a couple of times with brass casess, but a bunch of times with nickeled brass. I'm one of those people that keep everything, and I have a bag of nickled bras that is split. A couple ot them were fired by me as new, and then reloaded twice before splitting.
  21. Good night, Chesty, wherever you are. The last thing we all said every night in boot camp.
  22. A really good, small triangle file, and a lot of patience. A pass or two with the file, then try the fit to theh slide. When you can gently tap it, 1/3 to 1/2 way in the dovetail, then used a brass drift pucnch and a hammer.
  23. When I first saw a video of a texas Star, I was totally intimidated. The first big match I ever shot at was atn the Gator in 2010, and I was nervous wreck when I saw the star. Now, it's not likie I was smoking every stage. I was having gun problems and head problems (not shooting targets, hidden and in the open). I just knew I would run out of ammo whith all five plates stil standing. Bang/miss, bang/hit, bang/hit, bang/hit, bang/hit, bang/hit. Hey, this thing was fun. The next time I encountered one, it didn't go so well, but man it was still fun. Shoot 'em!
  24. Aglifter: That must have been an experience and a half; .44 magnum full power loads in a 2.5" revolver? Wow!
  25. When you are dry firing, you are most likely paying attention to your fundementals. It may be that when firing live ammo, your fundementals begin to break down. Keep dry firing and dry firing and dry firing. The dry fire exercises will eventually allow you to maintian your fundementals during live fire, both fast and slow. Now if I coulod anly apply the fundementals myself.....
