  1. SV-COP: Yeah, and they sure made you sweat in the southern heat and humidity. And unlike the more modern vest today, the carriers were not removable and did notlend itself to effective cleaning out of the funk. Man, the odor that would come ou from under that vest! Is you could put it in a spray can, it would be more effective than pepper spray. Any cop or military person that had to wear concealed soft body armor know exactly what I mean.
  2. Last year at the Gator Classic in Thibodaux one of the forums member here Gerwin, had a three shot average of 165.1. The year before he went minor.
  3. Way back in the early 80's (1982 I think)I saw Richard Davis demonstrate his body armor by shooting himself with a .44 Mag. He gave a discount to any officer that ordered one of his vest. Then you could order one direct from Second Chance. I ordered teh then brand new Y Model. 29 years later, that vest is stil in my closet along with an American Body Armor Armitron Level IIIA. That thing is about a flexible as what King Arthur wore. The vest we wear now are waaaay more flexible, but their still hot as a bitch. Richard Davis believed in his product enough to shoot himself numerous times, and he always said that he did it to encourage officers to wear the armor. He didn't invent soft body armor, but he made it practical to wear, and more affordable for when we had to buy it out of our own pockets. Thanks Richard, and thanks for that video clip. somewhere I have a 8 hour or so video of Richard Davis presentation and some of his weapons, including a bolt action single shot made by welding together two magnumMauser actions (I think that is what is was made of, but?).
  4. We have about 40 police officers that are going to meet at the Joppa Temple at 0400 on the 21st of September. We will then do a blue lights and siren escort to teh Biloxi-Gulfport Regional Airport. After we did the escort last year with about 10 units, we've heard nothing but compliments from the veterans and the Ameican Legion and VFW. We do very few blue light escort, but this is one we all enjoy.
  5. Welcome from your neighbors to the east.
  6. Some of the store bought ammo doesn't make minor becuase it is made to be easy to shoot for those folks that do not shoot matches. There are a whole lot more casual shooters shooting 9mm then there are competitive shooters. Check any local range on a Saturday afternoon and tell me what you see. At least half the folks shooting will be shooting 9mm. The big ammo factories do not care if their economy level product makes minor, major or whatever. It doesn't take very long doing a Google search to find out what brands of ammo will make which power factor.
  7. Those are some mighty fine pistolas. I have two Glock that I use for Limited, one G35 and one G24. they both have Warren sights and JP Magwells. The G24 has a Vanek trigger. the stippling on both was done by a friend.
  8. I am totally in the dark, as I have never even handled a gun from that period. Thanks for the reply though.
  9. I had police instructor from Ohio show me a strong handonly technique he called the quarter-home boy, where he canted the pistol slightly to the right. I guess I should've added that he is left handed.
  10. She looks so nice in that tube top and hot pants. Do you think any of the youg guys know what hot pants are? I'm talking about the shorts.
  11. Welcome from Biloxi. let the good times roll. Some of my mother's people were Louvierre's from New Iberia.
  12. I wish I could talk with my Dad every couple on months. He died about ten years ago.
  13. Nick: I know all of the guys and gals in LE hate 'em. We call 'em gawkersw and belive there should be two additional criminal charges tehy could be charged with. One is misdemeanor gawking and the other is gawking which results in injury to another and is a felony.
  14. I was watchng Ultimate Warrior reruns today, the TheodoreRoosevelt vs Lawrence of Arabia episode. I hear a quote from Teddy Roosevelt that I really liked. I may be paraphrasing, but here goes. The best thing is to do the right thing. The next best thing is to do the wrong thing. The sorst thing is to do nothing.
  15. This almost sounds like some kind of pyramid scam or something. Or like Amway. You only really make moeny by recruiting other associates.
  16. That might be good for all of you "hot dogs," but what about us "cocktail weenies?"
  17. That movie is about a 9.5 on my Weird S--t-o-meter. An older shooter asked me if I had ever seen my empties as they left the gun, and I replied that I don't know if I ever noticed it. The next time I practiced, I was foucing on the front sight rising off the target, and you know what? I was getting a flash of the empty brass exiting to the right. Them old guys know some stuff, don't they?
  18. They are all three American Heroes.

    Calmness of mind

What should you do? Calm yourself, quiet youself, master your senses. Look right into the source of mind, always keep it shining, bright, clear and pure. Do not give rise to an indifferent mind. -HONGREN
  20. I agree with all of the above members. The only thing that was done to my Glocks by anyone other than me was having an aftermarket barrel reamed to makie sure my reloads would chamber. There are some really good books and videos available on DIY for Glocks. Even the factory Glock Armorer's Course is only 8 hours, and the books and video?DVD's cover more than they cover.
  21. I also like the JP Enterprises magwell. Here's a picture of one of my JP equipped Glocks.
  22. Merlin: Man this ain't really funny, but a friend of mine that worked for the local Budwieser distributaor got fired for drinking a competitive brand at a Harbor Bait Shop. They were out of bud, and he was thirsty from fishing all day in the sun. His pulled up to fuel a boat and fired him on the spot. Man, that's cruel.
  23. I posted a picture of this gun in sometime in 2010. One member posted he thought that Jim Hoag may have made this pistol. I bought the gun used from an elderly widow that was selling off her husband's guns. The price was really right and the gun was really cool. It's a 1984 stainless Gold Cup, with an aftermarket barrel with a single port comp. The original front sight hole has been filled in, and a Wichita adjustable in on the rear (in place of the Colt's Eliason) of the slide. It was hand checkered everywhere: front of the trigger guard, bottom of the trigger guard, grip safety, front strap, rear strap and the rear of the slide, to include the back end of the extractor. The front of the slide, from the front of the dustcover to the comp has been milled thinner to match the thickness of the comp. There is an ambidextrous mag release, ambi safety and extended slide release. What do ya'll think? Even if I don't ever find out who the gunsmith was, I am still keeping it.
  24. Guys I just read this thread, and it is hilarious. I am a law enforcement officer, I teach firearms, but I am not one of those guys who "knows" how great he is. I have been a cop for almost 30 years, and I will promise you most cops are not gun guys. You would be amazed at how many LE's will only go to the range when you make them. I know that a lot of cops won't go to matches because they no they will not do well against experienced shooters, and like all macho guys, do not wnat to look bad. About a year ago I went to my first local match, and then started going to USPSA matches every couple of months. I was ok when shooting against guys that shoot a couple of hundred rounds a year, but at matches is a different story. What I did have was a really good friend that was a competitor that really helped me with fundementals. He also helped me attitude-wise, and my goal for the first couple of matches was to not get DQ'd and to not do anythingreally stupid (not to menation I really had a blast). I did the DQ thing later on, but I really enjoyed the company of the other shooters and teh shooting itself. I am showing steady but not spectacular progress. and please believe me, I respect my brother LE's so much. Whether they shoot great or not, they will still be there for you when things get hairy, and you're kickin' and gougin' in the mud and the blood and beer. Thanks to all the USPSA shooters I have been helped by.
  25. Welcome to the forums, from another from Mis-sip-pi.
