  2. I noticed that when the score came out, good shooting Matt. That is a great accomplishment. Good luck on the next level. Rick
  3. Wearing ear plugs and muffs takes away a lot of the noise and really helps. Another tip is to shoot at "nothing". Don't use a target, just shoot at the backstop while watching your front sight. It takes away all the other stuff you are trying to concentrate on. Just focus on slowly pressing the trigger without disturbing the sights. It's amazing what you can feel and see when you're not trying to hit anything.
  4. You realy just need to shoot some of the ones you listed to see how they feel. I shot an M&P9 in SSP and ESP. When I went to CDP I thought I would go with a 1911 but they just didn't feel right to me. I ended up with the M&P45 and have been very happy with it.
  5. Thanks for the everyone at the Henry County Gun Club for putting on a good match. The weather was good and lunch was great. I had a great time.
  6. The classifier is a series of limited strings and stages. There is no competitive advantage to having extra magazines on your belt. The same goes for how many are loaded in each mag. Your SO needs to relax a little.
  7. We were glad to see you get out and shoot with us yesterday and it was great to meet you. I think you learned what most do the first time they shoot the Classifier. It's deceptive. It's such a simple and seamingly easy match that almost all first timers go way to fast and rack up the points down. Now you have a better understanding of what you need to work on and the next match will be even better. Rick
  8. If I don't have to get up and move again, like in the classifier, I go both knees down. It takes a split second longer but gives me a more stable shooting platform. Often in IDPA you will have to shoot from both sides of a barrel and both knees down provides the same support on each side. If I have to move from the low cover position I go outside knee down.
  9. The one hand draw is a little different and something to think about. Along with what others have said, getting a good smooth draw and first shot is important in the classifier. You draw the gun from holster more than a dozen times in the classifier. A little work here will reap benefits.
  10. I posted something on the IDPA forum a while back about this. I'll repeat it here to see if it helps with your question. I have seen breakdowns for making Master but since most IDPA shooters are not at that level yet I put together some numbers to making SSP EX. I started this to help a friend make the jump and thought I would post it here for others. I developed it from a good Master breakdown, my own times and reviews of multiple people shooting just below 120 seconds. I believe the times to be very reasonable and the points down pretty loose. Any improvements in time or accuracy will of course help but this gives a starting point. Let me know what you think. 11. After a lot of reading and discussion with other shooters I decided to have glasses made. I wear reading glasses but see fine at distance. My new glasses have the dominate eye corrected +1.50 and the other un-corrected. With them on I can see the front sight clear for the first time in my four years of shooting. The problem I have is that the target is so blurry I can hardly tell where to aim. The only real image of the target I have is with my other eye and it's the wrong target. So I see the front sight clearly, I see one target but it's the wrong one and I see a brown blob. Any help is appreciated.
  12. I have been shooting a M&P45 in CDP, setup like you are planning except for the FSS, for several months and I'm very happy with it. Let us know what you think when you are finished.
  13. For IDPA you can't use the tungston guide rod. I wouldn't change any springs other than what may be included in the APEX kit. Speed Shooter Specialties has CDP legal magwell and base pads.
