  1. In this case I would say the pucker factor was high for 2 reasons, the first because the rifle that had just been dumped into the barrel was teetering on the rim of the barrel. Yes perfectly balanced on the edge of the barrel it never came out or touched the ground and always in a safe direction. The second was the action of the picking up the shotgun, I could tell it was loosely gripped and always touching a hand but about as close to loosing control as possible. So it was not pretty. And yes the shooter got a speaking to from a seasoned vet, and did well the remainder of the day.
  2. This weekend I watched a vertically challenged shooter who was running a rather long shotgun tube, it probably held 12-13 rounds. The person had a slight fumble with the gun getting caught as it was pulled from the barrel, then drug the tube along the ground for some distance while loading a with the load 2 technique. It was not a glamorous performance but they managed to keep the firearm under control. At the time the thought crossed my mind, would that be considered a dropped gun since it hit the ground?
  3. Amen!!!! It's the same for everyone, it's a true test of skill by making you adapt. This type off stuff is why I shoot 3-gun, not pistol matches
  4. Do you know how to program and operate a cnc? If you don't you will be on a pretty steep learning curve. Overall that machine is very low end, but it's hard to tell if it will work well or be a dog
  5. I use an IC for almost everything in my SLP
  6. I had a similar experience when first started and the root cause was the seating die, the lee seating die does not do a good job guiding the bullet straight into the case. If I recall the lee die comes with 2 different seating inserts so you might try the other one. Personally I went to the redding competition seating dies and love them, and will probably never go back.
  7. Well it finally happened, I ran out of bullets while loading along yesterday. The problem was I still had about 50 primers left in the machine, normally I just run the primers out. But that was not an option this time. Are there any suggestions if how to remove a fairly large amount of primmers from the machine. Any kind of tips are welcome.
  8. Most 3-gunners use a 50m zero, which comes in around 200 also. Then Crono your long range ammo and calculate you dope based on the scope reticle. It is also very important to verify you calculated dope. Just to make sure you didn't make a mistake.
  9. This is what my buddy did when he did the same thing to his SLP. Turned out pretty good. But he is still very pissed at himself. Best to contact him by phone.
  10. Just out of curiosity, why wouldn't a Hornady powder measure work on a 650? I am sure with enough effort and resources one could get the hornady powder to work on a 650. But my point was it will not a direct functional bolt onto the Dillion. The main difference being the fail safe rod assembly. If you get the 650 it is probably best to the the Dillion powder measure and sell the rest
  11. Personally, the best bullet puller is one you never have to use. Now that would be awesome
  12. Your dies will work, the powder measure will not. I second going directly for the 650, just pay attention to detail.
  13. I live in Southern California, 50 is cold too me. Thank you all for the advice
  14. It's looks like the weather is not going to be favorable for the Hard as Hell multigun match this weekend. With a high of 37 during the day and lows in the 20's does anyone have any advice of how to dress so I don't freeze to death. I plan on layering with 3-4 layers similar to what I would wear when hunting. Under armore first, flannel, then light insulated pull over with an insulated jacket on top.
  15. I don't believe 3-gun is sucking away pistol shooters, I believe pistol shooters are walking away from the pistol only game because they realize how much better rounded your skills become at any shooting game after becoming a good 3 gunner. Not to mention 3 gun doesn't have all those silly rules that the pistol matches have. Just put 2 one the brown.
  16. Personally i think the system used this year or even a lottery would leave the same amount of disappointed and happy people. The immediate feedback portion or wether you are in or not is a huge step towards the positive. 3 gun is getting more and more popular and there are only about 3 major matches within a 6hour driving window of Southern California; SMM3gun, multi gun nats and hard as hell. With the growing popularity of 3 gun and the relatively small number of west coast major matches it is going to get more and more difficult every year to get in. I am one of the lucky ones who got in, and a couple of my buddies also but 2/3 of them did not. It is a really fun match with great everything, so thank you to those guys who put all the hard work into making the match happen
  17. Buy Brian's book, it will give you the answers to questions you don't even know yet.
  18. Personally I think the change is good, except for the small detail that really makes it bad is the website you are using is not mobile or at least iPhone friendly. When you click on the practice form link nothing happens. Just my $0.02
  19. Yes I had a simlar setup on my 650 before upgrading to the 1050. Works great
  20. What brand/model Neck Sizer die are you using on your Brass Prep toolhead? Also are you using the Neck Sizer simply to clean up any edges left by the trimmer or are you also opening up/flaring the neck a bit for the bullet? I use a another standard dillon sizing die that is backed off a little to not touch the shoulder. This die does knock off the sharp edges from the trimmer, but the real reason I use it is to set the neck tension because the sizing die on the trimmer leaves a little to much neck tension for my taste. I have also used a bushing type redding neck sizing die but honestly I like the dillon better. Another thing I have done on the support rod/die on the swaging station is turned down the upper diameter on the rod so it does not flare the case at all, i usually only bullets with a boat tail like the 55 hornady or Sierra SMK's. But I have also loaded so of the hornady flat base bullets with out any issues.
  21. My set-up on my 1050 is as follows, it might be a little over the top but works perfectly. Tool head one 1. Steel Dillon sizing die, size approx 75% of the way down the shoulder 2. Swags 6. Dillon trimmer, sizing depth set to required shoulder position 8. Neck sizer with carbide expander ball to set proper neck tension Tool head 2 1. Lee universal recapped 2. Swagger again, just because I don't want to adjust the rod set-up 3. Prime 4. powder 5 powder check 6 Dillon seated 7 Dillon crimp Works awesome and requires very little adjustment, just costs some $$$$$.
  22. When I first started reloading I bought a medium flat rate box of 9mm brass not off this forum, which was mistake number 1. That box has been sitting in the garage for a couple years and after a bunch of cleaning last weekend I found it. Decided to load some 9mm last night and I was getting a piece of.380 about every 25 rounds or so. So every time I pulled the handle and there was no resistance, I would pull out a piece of .380, very annoying for supposedly sorted brass.
