Load Development with New Rifle/Barrel
Mbauer67 replied to Religious Shooter's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
I believe it's more about heat cycling the gun a few times to let all of the components settle in and normalize. Of the 4 rifles I have, I have found that the zero changes very little from when they are new and when I verify zero at about 500 rounds. However is did have one when the zero shifted about 1/2". But now it shoots groups the size of a dime -
I have been a long time slp user and only once have I ever pressed the shell release button and jammed shells together, and that was on purpose because I wanted to know how to clear such a malfunction. Step one would be figuring out a way to keep the button depressed and see if the gun still runs as normal.

Nothing like getting called out by the infamous Kurt killer miller, I might have apply some brain cells to this, but I was really to get a head start

Does anyone know how to bypass/disable the shell release on a versamax. I know some people like this function, but I really hate not being able just rack out a shell when needed. Honestly I don't get the point of it but that really doesn't matter now. It goes with out saying the gun must remain 100% reliable, but I hve the skills to pretty do any type of modification without making paper weights. Thanks for any input.

What size grit for silicon carbide grip?
Mbauer67 replied to Tochnost's topic in General Gunsmithing
Just curious where you guys are buying your silicon carbide grit material? -
Looks like you need to radius or chamfer the entrance to the chamber on the barrel

I have not been able to get the accuracy to a reasonable level with extreme bullets in a glock barrel, in other guns they work great. Try bayou bullets instead

I saw a flyer online for a 3-gun match to bebenfit an officer who lost his life on duty at a little club in arrowhead, CA I had never heard of before. So I decided I would make the drive and see what this club was all about. And I found a beautiful club location with a really nice group of shooters. The club is a private group that consists of most local shooters. The match was very simple and easy by my standards, but it was the right skill level for the majority of the group. It was a very relaxing day with a good group of people. Here's a link to the club, http://www.arrowheadfishandgame.com/home/

What did you order? I got a confirmation email the day after faxing the paperwork. Did you get yours yet? Ordered the 700 in .308. I got a email with only an attachment that was like a bill of sale. They made a point of stating that we can not contact them about the status. I Amin the same boat, but I did get an email from the Remington rep saying they were out of stock for at least 6 weeks.

Many people use a cnc with a small ball end mill to cut the serial number, an old school method would be to stamp the number with a set of punches. I'm pretty sure just laser engraving is not legally sufficent.

I like the SLR, the JP's are also rock solid.

I am honestly surprised in the responses thus, and thank you for the feedback. I'm going to try a couple loads with the hornady's and shoot a few groups.
-
My normal long range load is 23.5gr of H4895 with a Sierra 77gr MK at 2.245" OAL, which is very accurate, but as with anything i can't leave it alone. I have been wanting to try the 75gr hornady bullets, has anyone done the same switch and if so which result were you most happy with. Did the same powder and charge weights produce similar velocities and groups or was is like starting from scratch? I understand every gun is different but I'm trying to decide if I really want to spend the time working up another load.

For JP barrels I would reccomend sticking with the 69's, they work really well in the JP barrels.

Here's one most people overlook, work harder and focus.

I have used them for hoser stuff and have not had any issues, but I don't run my hoser loads very hot.

Make a switch to 124gr bullets once you learn how they shoot you will have the best of both worlds. -

1050 Swage Rod Material?
Mbauer67 replied to Brassaholic13's topic in Dillon Precision Reloading Equipment
If I had to guess i would say 4140 or O1, most likely with some type heat treatment applied to the finished part. -
