  1. I think a little lighter trigger pull would help...
  2. Unfortunately, apparently you did not miss something..... I think you got it, except, I'm not sure where we stand on "no external modification" for the part of the firing mechanism that sticks out, the application of grip tape, custom stippling, and slide milling for the installation of non-stock non-factory sights not withstanding.
  3. +1 on checking the mags. If it is just the big stick you might be ready for springs.
  4. That sounds like a rock solid plan, and we know how important that is, and if that is backed up with reliable equipment, no doubt a recipe for success.
  5. I've run through close to 10k with no problems at all. No misfire, seating or any other problems. I've had more problems with Federal and Winchester than Wolf. Last two sleeves were $80 each on sale with no HazMat so that is hard to beat.
  6. When I installed the bearing mod on my new 650 it took at least 500 rounds to settle down. Had to adjust 3 to 4 times as it will loosen up as things start to wear in. Touchy adjustment as you already found out. After initial wear in I haven't had to touch it in the last 6000 rounds. A little spot of Slide Glide under the plate will also help.
  7. When you have an interuption, STOP and check everything before you proceed. Clear the shellplate of anything you are not sure of and start over. In the short stroke scenario you describe the worst thing that can happen is a partial powder drop in the case under the measure, then you clear the case at the first station, insert another case or just pull the handle again and now you have a regular charge on top of a partial charge. Your attention is on station one and you don't check for over powder. That spells trouble. On the 550 you control the shellplate so you have to be sure so stop and evaluate what happened and take corrective action.
  8. MG 124 JHP or 124 CMJ because they are good, affordable, and they support us. I shoot the 115 JHP because they are super flat.
  9. I have a standard M&P and it shoots most bullets with acceptable accuracy but, it really likes 147 grain bullets in any flavor, jacketed, plated, moly, and plain old lead.
  10. unless it says it in the stage discription, you can do it. Blake Miguez did it also, about 4 or 5 years ago at area 4, i am sure there is a video somewhere here of it here floating around Blake did it at A3 this year. Couple guys on the squad used a mag. Don't remember who but one guy missed the pad, a glancing blow that didn't trip it... Stop... Throw another mag! Second one got it. Gotta stick with the plan.
  11. Do you want jeff686's radioactive brass too?
  12. The UniqueTek micrometer is well worth the money, especially if you use one powder measure for different set ups. It is accurate and you can return to a previous setting very easily. I have two of them and I have the larger knobs on all my other measures. Anything is better than the plain bolt.
  13. Forget rice, it simply does not work and is a waste of time.
  14. Anybody tried this mod with just the bearing? Not installing the thrust washers? Might help with the ejector wire set up. I find that this mid works great but, there is a very fine line on adjusting the bolt, between to tight and just right.
  15. I got that same bench about 7 years ago. It was the display, last one, and it had a dent and one drawer was stuck. Gave like $59 for it. Took 15 min to pop out dent and fix drawer. Been a great bench. I just finished adding on around it so the total bench is now 8' x 2'.
  16. Setback of any amount is a problem. It's not the gun(s) fault. If the round is to long and hits the lands then the slide will not close. If the round OAL is changed by hitting the feed ramp you have a reload problem. Either situation is a reload problem first. Push a round against hot bench and see if you can set the bullet deeper. If you can then you have a case sizing issue, undersize bullet, or to much crimp.
  17. I always return powder to the original container when not actually loading. Best for powder and for the measure, so the plastic tube won't stain.
  18. I load .38 SPL wadcutters on my SDB with no issues at all. The SDB will do a fine job for less money than a 1050 complete conversion set up. The 550 will do the same but, will cost a little more and will be a little more versatile because of the rifle capability. I'd recommend you find somebody with an SDB and give it a test drive. If all you will ever do is .38 SPL the SDB will keep you happy, and once you shoot your new gun, you might shoot more than you expect.
  19. The magazines won't take over 1.150 with that bullet profile. The rounded front on the mags will cause the bullets to drag once they start double stacking.
  20. Every Friday evening around 6 p.m. Stop by and check us out. Check the web site www.bhpsc.us, we'd be glad to have you.
  21. Home field or court is a huge advantage in the SEC, no matter what the rank might be. Just sayin...
