  1. My Buckmark with Tactical Solutions barrel and annodized Hogue grips!
  2. You are assuming that the primer supply is going to get better. Meanwhile what will you shoot?
  3. I put the Dawson FO front and the Dawson Adj rear when I first started shooting IDPA, but I soon replaced the adjustable rear with a Heine rear because the notch is bigger for fast shooting of close targets. HOWEVER, after my last USPSA match when I could not shoot well at the far targets (I know it's me, not the sights), I am going back to the Dawson adj rear. But I agree Black rear, no FO!
  4. My 650 throws primers everywhere. Does the 650 need a different fix from the 550 solution?
  5. Anyone have an idea where to get H4895? I usually buy everything from Powdervalleyinc, but they are out of nearly evrything.
  6. I shoot ICORE, so this advice might seem odd to a USPSA shooter , but the best advice I got when I first started was "You cannot miss fast enough to win." Start with accuracy, and speed will come with practice.
  7. I just started reloading .223, so I only bought 1 lb. of Varget to get started. Now that my powder is gone, I cannot find Varget for sale anywhere. I have two questions. 1. Where cna I get more Varget powder? 2. If not Varget, then what powder should I buy? Reloader 10, Reloader 15, H335?? I am loading 50gr Barnes Varmint Grenades for a 20" AR. I was getting around 1" groups at 100yds with 26 grains. Any suggestions?
  8. When I first started reloading I bought a single stage, then a Dillon Square Deal. That was a huge upgrade, but eventually, I bought a Dillon 650. I was trying to save money the first two times, but I could have saved money in the long run by buying the 650 first! I LOVE my 650!
  9. I like my Miculek comp on my 20", but it is fairly loud!
  10. Reloading a revolver and pocketing a moonclip with two rounds left unfired is tactically unsound! How are you going to put a moonclip with spend cases still in it back in the cylinder????? Even if you could argue that you might need the unspent rounds later, if your moons are tight at all, you would need a tool to remove the good rounds from the moonclip. By the time you reloaded your revolver using this method, you would be dead! IDPA should recognize that retaining half used moons is not tactical or practical.
  11. any of them for sale? You only have two hands.
  12. With no previous rifle experience, I have put together four lowers so far by following the instructions on AR15.com. Get the right punches ahead of time to save yourself grief. I also found that taping thin cardboard (like a cereal box) to the side of the receiver keeps it from getting dinged when you put in that pesky bolt catch roll pin. From ar15.com, I printed out the pic of all the lower parts spread out on a piece of paper with labels, because the springs can be confused. Be sure not to confuse the trigger disconnect spring and the bolt catch spring. Also, when you put the detent spring into the front of the receiver while installing the take down pin, be sure not to launch the detent across the room. I did mine facing a plastic bag--saved me from ordering a new detent and spring! My next project that I am contemplating is the fire control trigger kit from JP Rifles. It takes a little fitting. Have fun!
  13. My friends flew, but I drove since I was already in RI visiting the inlaws. However, a road trip hitting several matches on the way would be cool! Another friend of mine shot the Worlds in South Africa years back, a couple of other shooters from my club shot revolvers for USA in South America. My club hosts the Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship every year, and the farthest competitors have come from Australia for the past few years.
  14. Mine happened while loading Fed primers into crappy mixed 9mm brass. I think it was a Win brass with some crimp in the pocket. Fortunately it was only one. My friend detonated the whole tube!
  15. I'm from CA, and Several of the shooters from my club and I have shot matches at the S&W range in Springfield, MA.
  16. The CZ is a sweet gun that can be tweaked to be an awesome competition gun in USPSA Production and IDPA!
  17. Hearthco moonclips are the best. I use the 627 8-shot .357 clips made for Starline brass, and I can clip the rounds in by hand--no need for a tool. They are still fairly tight and go in the cylinder smoothly and quickly!
  18. I only used Win231 for a short time because it was so dirty. Switch to a faster burning powder, but don't try to make major with a 9mm.
  19. I am debating the same thing. I am loading .223 for varmints, so I have been trimming them, loading them on a single stage press, and weighing every load to get as much accuracy as I can. I would love to use my 650, but I don't know if the Dillon powder measure is consistent enough. I was also wondering about the best way to trim cases and use the 650.
  20. I use Lee Resizing Lubricant in a 1:10 solution with alcohol in a spray bottle. It comes in a 2 oz bottle of paste--very cheap, leaves no residue on the cases, and it's easy.
  21. I have a fancy Brass aftermarket knob that I purchased a few years ago, but i recently noticed that the powder dial moves from the vibration of loading. The powder dial gradually rotates adding more and more powder--not good! Anyone have a suggestion or experience this before? Right now my solution is packing tape on the dial, but it's not a permanant solution. I'm actually thinking of going back to the oem knob.
  22. Randy Lee at Apex Tactical does amazing action jobs on S&W guns. He even designed his own hammers! All my revolvers have Randy Lee competition level trigger jobs.
  23. I agree that USPSA needs to update their revolver class. Nearly everyone I know shooting revolver has a S&W627. Why limit revos to 6 rounds. That's like limiting Limited class to 10 rounds. I won't shoot my revolver in USPSA or IDPA because of their unreasonable restrictions. Go ICORE!
  24. For revolver shooting (model 627 5" barrel), I like the SDM .250 F/O front sight paired with the Weigand blade that replaces the stock rear blade--It's angled, black, and serrated. The SDM front sight has a nice square post that can be lined up for 50 yard accuracy, but the FO makes it pop for fast shooting. The Weigand rear blade is deeper than the much more expensive LPA replacement rear sight, so to me it is faster.
