  1. I am trying to get my Barnes 50gr .224 Varmint Grenades as accurate as possible in my 20" 1:9 twist AR. I have heard conflicting stories about seating depth and accuracy on these. The Varmint Grenades are a long bullet for only 50 grains. So far, my loading trials have been inconclusive. It seems like closer to the rifling is better for accuracy, but it doesn't seem to be for these. Does anyone have an idea of ideal OAL for these. I will be using H335 in Lake City .223 brass. BTW, I am also interested in data for the H335. I was using Varget, but ran out, so H335 is all I could find.
  2. UPDATE: I found some H335 powder. Does anyone have any advise on loads / oal with 50 grain Varmint grenades or 55 grain jacketed armscor bullets? I will be loading them in new Lake City brass.
  3. I want to do an action job on my Browning Buckmark, but Volquarten doesn't make any trigger parts for it. Does anyone know how to lighten the trigger pull?
  4. What are you going to use it for? To shoot ground squirrels
  5. I am shooting 50gr Barnes Varmint Grenades out of my 20" HBAR. I was using 26 grains of Varget until my powder ran out. Any suggestions?
  6. Nice pics. The only pic I have from a downrange remote shows me holding my breath. No wonder I cannot focus my eyes.
  7. What kind of gun are you using? You could shoot in Production if you have a Glock-style gun, because everyone is minor in Production.
  8. What are the holster and mag pouch location rules for Single Stack? Iwas thinking of getting a 1911 in 9mm.
  9. Using Starline .38 Long Colt brass in Hearthco Starline moonclips, I don't need a tool to load the moonclips. They click in by hand. I just use a copper tube with a rubber stopper on one end and a notch cut out of the other end to lever against the moon for removal. It demoons very quickly for little money! Also, use 3.0 grains of Hodgdon Clays and a 170 grain Billy Bullet. Less felt recoil because of the low fps and less muzzle flip! I can hit X's at 50yds, so the accuracy is fine.
  10. Varget is the powder, but if you can get Reloader 15, that is good too.. also. VV N540, N140. RL15, 540 and 140 will usually yield higher velocities than Varget, but Varget is more temp tolerant. Great, now where can I buy some????
  11. With the new "Timeless Standards" rules, I have time to aim at 50 yds, and with my 627 loaded with Starline .38 long colt brass and a 170 grain round nose moly coated Billy Bullet sitting on 3.0 grains of Hodgdon Clays, I can put them in the X. I recommend the Long Colt Brass instead of Short Colt. It ejects a little faster than .38 spl, but has more case capacity than the Short Colt, so I can put a 170 grain bullet in without adding too much pressure. The 170's have much less muzzle flip than the 130's I used to use.
  12. I was going to suggest buying directly from Starlinebrass.com, but they are backordered until June! Hearthco makes the best moons, and he makes two different kinds for the .38. One is for Starline brass and the other one for Federal/Remington Peters (RP). The Winchesters work better in Ranch Products moons. The Starline brass is too loose in other brands of moons. If you are shooting .45, the kinds of moons doesn't matter.
  13. I hear alot of talk, but has anyone actually set up the stage and shot it with the new rules yet? Our club at SLOSA shot "Timeless Far and Near" this month, and the results were clear. The "top" shooters got a little bit better or shot the same, and the shooters who are usually in the bottom half of the results got ALOT better! The black X is great! I shot 3 X's at 50, when I usually get B's and C's. My dad, who usually shoots over 100, shot an 80! I would love to hear some of you who have shot the new stage give imput. I was against the change at first, but actually shooting the new stage gave me an informed opinion. Oh, and I enjoyed having the time to go prone at 25 and get X's as well. My dad was able to get all his shots off at 3 yds--very encouraging. Chris
  14. I tried to reload short colt in my Square Deal, but I called Dillon about which parts to get. It is a combination of .38, .380 auto, and other parts. You need to call them about the specifics. The problem I had was the bullet seating. I kept bulging the cases, and I never got that problem solved. I sold my SDB, so I cannot go look at which componants I used in each station--sorry. Call Dillon, they have a revolver guy who really knows his stuff.
  15. Full disclosure, I'm one of the Tac-Sol sponsored shooters so I'm a bit biased That said it runs 100% unless the ammo is a dud. Full disclosure, I'm not sponsored by Tac-Sol and am jealous! Anyway, I am totally sold on Tactical Solutions products. I have their barrels on both of my competition guns. My 10/22 and Buckmark have matching Red fluted barrels! I also love their extended mag release fo rthe 10/22--also in matching red. I even have their FO front sight on my buckmark. Now if I could scrape up enough money for one of their AR uppers! My wife shot a TacSol upper that a friend let her borrow last night at our indoor match, and it was flawless and accurate! It looks really cool too.
  16. I had the G17 Metal Slide and Barrel version, and I had the same problem with the holster until I took an old Uncle Mike's and loosened it until the gun fit. Mine came from Hong Kong (eBay) and had all the Glock markings intact. They were covered with a rubber cement-like stuff that scraped off easily. Other than the lightly painted red tip on the barrel, it was virtually indistinguishable from my real Glock! LOTS OF FUN!
  17. The mantra in ICORE is that if you are reloading, you should be moving. You do have to watch the muzzle with a revo reload, but a standing reload is never a good thing.
  18. It is not a disadvantage if you shoot the A zone!
  19. Does anyone know a mailorder/online supplier who has Reloader 15, Hodgdon Varget or H4895 in stock? There are ground squirrels that have lived longer than they should have, because I am out of powder for my .223!
  20. Who did the grip mod? I did the mod myself. My friend set up his mill, so I could mill the sides flat, lay the grips on the side to mark the holes, drill and tap the holes, then use epoxy to secure the 1911 grip studs. It makes the grip almost exactly the same width as a 1911!
  21. If you have the weigand rear sight blade replacement, use the .250" SDM super sight.
  22. I have been using a red SDM FO sight on my S&W revo for 9 years, but I am planning to switch to green some time soon. One thing that improves the S&W rear sight for less money than the Millet or LPA replacements is to simply replace the rear blade with a Weigand rear blade. It is a big improvement over the oem blade, for only about $30. The only trick is that you have to replace the barrel screw (windage adjustment) as well. I just sent my rear sight off to Weigand, and they sent it back in a week or so with the new blade installed.
  23. My Glock has never choked on me ,but my friends who tricked theirs out with awesome aftermarket-have to be fitted-match-grade barrels have had some nasty jams during matches that ended in a group of people giving their expert opinion about how to get that gun unjambed. Have you ever seen someone banging an expensive pistol on a wooden wall? As fun as it looks, I like my simple stock barrel that eats any ammo and never jams.
  24. My MKIII 22/45 with grip mod to accept Hogue 1911 grips!
