According to the ICORE facebook page: "Toni Clancy of the Reservation Dogs Club has arranged with Alco Targets to produce some white D-1 targets. They will be available for order in about three weeks. No more painting no shoots. Thanks Toni." Sounds cool. I assume that they will be normal D-1 targets in white and should then be approved ICORE targets. HOwever, If they are just white tombstone shapes, they would not be official targets. Good idea though! Chris

Far and Near Standards will be shot with the traditional par times and will be using the newly approved NRA AP-1 targets (the black circles and blacked out X-zone). However, the overtime shot penalty will still be 10 seconds since my rule change proposal was unanimously rejected. We are still accepting stage design ideas! Chris made me a DOH revolver holster for my 627 that I use in ICORE, and it is awesome! It comes out of the holster smoothly and very fast, but it is still held in securely. I even stood next to my couch and smacked the butt of the gun repeatedly trying to knock the gun out of the holster, and it stayed put! As a matter of fact, I have been so impressed with Ready Tactical products that I now have a DOH holster for my M&P, single pouches for my M&P mags as well as my Glock mags, and two AR-15 mag pouches for 3-gun. Chris Stewart is a great guy to work with, and his distributor at CPWSA is a good guy as well!

If we make an OT shot penalty only 5 seconds on a stage that has an X-ring bonus, there is a 1 second per shot incentive to keep shooting after the par time is up. With a 6 second penalty, it negates the advantage. Let's say the timer beeped before I could shoot my last target. I would get 10 seconds in misses. However, if the OT penalty were only 5 seconds each, I would take my time and shoot two shots in the X ring. I would get 10 seconds in OT penalties, but I would get 2 more X's which would be a net of only 8 seconds in penalties. If I make the OT penalty 6 seconds, I would get 12 seconds in OT penalties and 2 more X's which would result in a net of 10 seconds in penalties--the same as taking the two misses. The idea behind the change is to reduce the harshness of the OT penalty, but still keep the integrity of a par-time stage.

The 22nd Annual ICORE International Revolver Championship will once again be held at the Hogue Range in beautiful Morro Bay, CA, on the first weekend in June. On Thursday, May 30, we will hold a 4-stage classifier match for those who need to get a classification, and the Full-time ROs will shoot the match. The competition begins on Friday, May 31 and ends on Saturday, June 1. On Sunday, June 2, we will have a Steel Shoot-off competition with cash prizes. After the shoot-offs, we will have the awards ceremony and prize table. The cost is $200 if you send in your application before April 1, and $250 after that. We will have 12 stages in the match as well as side matches where you can win cash or prizes. The application will soon be posted on our website www.icore.org You will have the choice of online registration or mailing in a paper application. We wanted to continue the Far and Near Standards tradition, but we also wanted to reduce the overtime shot penalty. A six second penalty rather than a 10 second penalty should reduce some of the stress associated with the stage and still maintain the tradition of a great stage following ICORE rules about par time stages. The rules were clarified at last night's ICORE board meeting to define an overtime shot as a shot occurring .31 seconds after the par time has ended.

I definitely agree! The Hogue extended cylinder release is in the perfect spot for my thumb. It is smooth and quick. The only modification I made was to have my gunsmith add a series of horizontal cuts to the factory vertical grooves which made it feel checkered. It really added the perfect amount if grip. The Hogue release is available in a large and small. Chris

The 2013 USPSA Revolver Nationals is on May 11, so you can go to both! However, the prize table will be better at the IRC!

Thursday, May 30, is the classifier match and the day for ROs to shoot. The IRC will be a two day match (6 stages Fri and 6 stages Sat) with a shoot-off and awards on Sunday, June 2.

Maybe we should petition for an ICORE rule change. Overtime shots are just a procedural (+5 sec).

Far and Near Standards is the measure of a revolver shooter. It tests speed and accuracy like no other stage I have ever shot. The stage can be discouraging to new shooters, but it is just one stage in the International Championship! ICORE is unique in that everyone is welcome to enjoy the Championship match; it is one of that things I think is special about ICORE. We welcome shooters at any level, and we all have fun. However, it is not unreasonable and should not be discouraging to have an extremely challenging stage that tests your abilities at the Championship match. Knowing that the Standards will be in the match every year and knowing exactly what the stage will be like ahead of time, should make it alot less discouraging. If the stage is the same every year, I can accurately measure my performance (improvement or not). Keep it with par times! Chris Sallee

I just got off the phone with Chris Marsh of 3gunstuff.com, and he says the MTACs all have the same diameter power ring. His are currently in production and should be shipped out at the end of the month. I am probably going to order his plastic lever for $39.95. Any thoughts? Is a .8" lever long enough? The power ring seems fairly tight.

I was very concerned about the limited fov as well since I am replacing my Leupold Mk IV CQT 1-3 which has awesome glass. I have not shot it in a match yet, but I have sighted it in, and at 6x I didn't have any problems picking up the target out to 250 yards. At 1.5 power you could probably shoot with both eyes open with some practice. I had no problem getting on close targets quickly. I was also worried that the center dot was too large, but at 300+ yards, the center dot was not as wide as the utility pole I was looking at. I will try to remember to give a report after the next match in June.

I just got a Burris MTAC 1.5-6 scope, and I need to find a cat tail or scope lever for it. Does anyone make one for that model? Is the power ring the same size and shape as the older model MTACs or Tac 30s? Better yet, oes anyone have a do-it-yourself solution for less money? I also need a scope cover to fit it. I was looking at the Flack Jacket ScopeCoat 6mm thick one http://www.midwayusa.com/product/864886/scopecoat-scope-cover-xp-6-flak-jacket-12-1-2-x-42mm-black, but I wasn't sure if I should get the 42mm one or the 50 mm one. The scope is supposed to have a 42mm objective, but the stats on the website say 46mm.(maybe that's Outside Diameter) Thank you, Chris

Randy at APEX does excellent work. Three people at the Hogue range shoot APEX 617s in Rimfire competition, and they are really nice. One of our shooters, shoots his in open class and has no problem hanging with the open 1911 conversions. I have never seen his gun have any problems. APEX even makes a "pencil barrel" that looks and shoots sweet.
