  1. A friend's wife that we shoot with seems to engage her safety on the reload. (1911 platform) I think she tends to hit it when she shifts her grip to engage the mag release. She loses seconds on pretty much every reload, but the grip shift is so natural she can't seem to break the habit, despite him putting on an extended mag release, etc. Maybe something to look into? Hope it helps...
  2. Let's add to those posts!!! Where you from? Binhamton area by any chance?
  3. Been following this thread with some interest. Seems somebody has "donated" some different brass to my usually sorted Winshester and Federal supply. Was loading this morning, and noticed some very hard to resize cases. When loaded said brass produced OAL in the 1.122 range. My usual is 1.110. Checked Win and Fed OALs and all were 1.110 to 1.112. IMI and VZ is consistantly 1.115 to 1.122. Guess the best way to tell on your press is to load 25 or so of all one brand, and measure. Then load 25 or so mixed and measure. Maybe the press, but today's experiment would indicate that it's more the brass and resizing resistance... Thanks for the heads-up Dwight!
  4. I missed the .22 event last yr, cause I shot 2 guns on Sunday. My son and a friend shot the team event. Had a ball! the club runs a .22 shoot in October. (PSA rimfire challenge) 4 stages, around 70 targets per.I placed in the top 5 with a rifle. Basically a stock 10/22. What a fun shoot! 1 gun this year, so .22 side match here I come! Hope to see you there...
  5. Maybe you better send me 1/2 your total? Might be good to have a cross section of data? I promise to send the brass back too... Unless it's the kind I use!
  6. I put a cat picture on a hostage target once to signify a cute little girl. One guy put 2 rounds in the cat's head (and through the hostage)! I said "big penelty". He said, "I hate cats!!" LOL! Stinkin' hostages! Why they gotta be that way?
  7. I know if I were a hostage and somebody came in shooting I would duck!!! What's the matter with these hostages anyway?!
  8. Yep. Unless you're @ max load, all they will do is give you a free 25 or so FPS. If You're near max, back off a couple tenths... I have switched to all SPM since the experiments.
  9. Welcome aboard! Hope to see you "up the road" at Palmyra's PSA Shootout in April. Fun Time! Registrations open around Feb 1st on the site.
  10. 147gr over 3.4 or 3.7 Win 231. Loaded to coal of 1.125 or the long nose will cause feeding problems in some guns. Just received 3300 135RN. Should be "just right" steel load over 3.7 Win 231...
  11. GSG mags use a big, wide follower. They are way deeper than they need to be. You can buy the smaller followers, or, with a little Dremel magic, cut them down... I think they were a GSG priority thing, tho. Don't think it would work with the Colt style mags?
  12. I have a Ruger Mk2 that has probably 3000,000 rounds through it. It's so worn out that the top rattles if you shake it! It shoots fine, but is really only usefull for a fun gun. The Mk3 22/45 is showing up more and more at the .22 steel shoots (like the PSA rimfire challenge in Oct), and has some nice features. Drop free mags, grip angle, etc. Lots of goodies available too. A little pricier than the GSG. Lots of good choices in the "what to buy" catagory!
  13. Or, if you prefer (some do I hear) the 1911 platform, there is the GSG 1911. Lots of goodies to bolt on, and easy to convert the mags to 14 rounds. Oh, you don't live in N.Y. do you? Nice to shoot the "same gun" for practice. I have a Buckmark which I use as a steel gun too, and they both shoot fine, but the 1911 has that different feel thing going for it...
  14. I shoot 4.0 as a regular charge with 124 or 125gr plated bullets. I shoot either 3.4 or 3.7 of 231 with a 147gr Bayou. My 1911s will run fine with the 125 @ 4.0gr 231, but my Sig 226 won't. For that gun, I have to run 4.4 or 4.6 of 231 or I get lots of stovepipes, etc. 4.0 gives me around 1025 to 1050 in my 5" gun and about 1100 in my 6" gun and it's reliable. Nice plate loads...
  15. 40yds. Heated shooting house, whatever targets I want to shoot, teenager to shovel snow out of the bays... No lights. Neighbors would complain then for sure!
  16. I tried a couple thousand 147s after testing with about 500. I felt like the slide was really sluggish. Tried 3.4gr and 3.7gr. Win 231 and settled on the 3.7 charge. Thing was, when I tested the 2 loads against a 125gr @ 4.3gr 231, the results came out that the 147gr @ 3.4 was the fastest. (BTW, I loaded marked mags with each load, stuck them all in my pocket, and loaded them into the gun with my eyes closed. Didn't want to spoil the test based on "opinion". Made a plate rack run for time, and recorded them by number. 6 runs with each load. Also used a .22 with 6 runs for a control. The 3.4 load was as fast as the .22!) My biggest issue is with the long nose on the 147s causing some FTF and other assorted issues. This year I'm testing the 135gr Bayous. Pick one and practice! I shoot all steel BTW. No PF to worry about. Just what runs my guns...
  17. I ordered recently from Donnie at Bayou Bullets. 3300 9mm 135 gr. He shipped them in about 2 weeks! Nice...
  18. We shoot a weekly shoot at my range during the warm months. I always set up a man-on-man stage. I run 7 to about 10 targets on each side (steel) with a stopper popper or a dual plate thing I made where the 1st target down locks the other side up. I always put in a reload before the stop plate. I also do a man-on-man El Prez. I do 7 yds starting @ low ready facing the targets (for safety). That's fun and fast! Any course will be a lot of fun!
  19. I beilive that CED also has an airsoft timer... Interesting for indoor/dry fire work.
  20. Yep, just the cylinder and a moonclip the times I've had it done... Some clips are different thicknesses I think. I believe mine are either .020 or .022. I have a 6 and a 7 shot done...
  21. +1 on Win 231! I shoot 4.3 behind a 125gr plated or lead. 4.0 shoots softer but won't ignite reliably, so, 4.3 it is...
  22. A year or so ago I bought a Rossi Model 92 in 44 mag. Stainless and brown... I had a peep rear and fiber optic front sight installed cause us old guys can't see, and I shoot a lot of lighter loads to plink with it. Turns out it's way fun on the plate racks! Full house loads make it a good 125 yd or so gun. Around here, the shots can be had much closer. Fun gun. I guess that's what it's all about?
