Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Next batch I'm going to completely reset the crimp, the bullets come out of the seater at 1.15, the crimp did not visually appear to be too much, just enough to take the bell off. However, considering the variance I will try and completely reset that die and see if it isolates the issure
  2. I use MG 124 JHPS, they appear to be pretty well made. I shot about 400 rounds yesterday and the rounds are accurate out to steel silhouettes at 50 yds. Close range, I thought I was seeing some variation, I handed to gun over to a far superior shooter and he showed no accuracy issues with the rounds. When I say variation, I mean that we were shooting small sections of VTAC targets which present a very tiny 1"-1.5" acceptable shot range. Switching over to a small 2" steel plate (hostage taker) that flips from side to side of a steel silhouette revealed no accuracy problems. My main concern with varying OAL is safety, I'm reloading on a dillon 550b. I will continue to see if I can locate the source of inconsistency.
  3. Loaded a small batch and noticed oal ranging from 1.15 to 1.30. I pulled open my box of last reloads I've been using for awhile and they range from 1.15-1.28. Checked the shellplate, it is just loose enough to rotate. I have the right seater for JHPs. I am wondering if this is the result of two things. (1) I use very random mixed brass, whatever I get cheapest (2) some of it needs to be swaged so when I find one, I pull it off the line and continue on meaning that I'm seating some without a full load on the plate. Is this likely the issue? The rounds have been pretty accurate in IPSC and the defensive handgun stuff I do so should I really be concerned?
  4. I will try to bring it out to 1.135, whenever the next batch of fitted barrels gets in stock I will be sending in my slide, Ill have to and what their max oal will be
  5. I think you find better accuracy at 1.135 -1.145. 124g needs to be at 135PF for tighter groups 147g shoot best in the MP. 1.135 OAL?
  6. I managed to get mine over chrono and they came out around 1050-1100, I'm assuming this is fine or do i need to lower it to be competing in IDPA and IPSC with these rounds? As said above that isn't the primary purpose for my reloads but i don't want to be breaking any rules. Soft-+p loads all feel about the same to me out of this pistol.
  7. took a dremel to get it off, but the press is about to roar back to life
  8. I'm having a nightmare of a time trying to remove this thing, it bent all the way up. I have been trying to bend it back out with needle nose pliers so that I can remove it, but no luck so far.
  9. Is there a video that shows how to install the spare dillon decapping pins. I already burned through one
  10. very happy with my reloads, even with a varied OAL they are quick, light recoiling and dead on target. Loading 1k tonight to use in as practic and maybe to try a run through IDPA or IPSC if they meet the PF that is. Otherwise I have some trigger control issues I need to work out for long distance shooting.
  11. Just loaded 25, powder is not varying more than .1 +/- but my oal was a bit wacky going form 1.108 to 1.125, managed to get that issue fixed out and I lined them up from low OAL to high just for my own notes. I will see what happens a little later today. If all goes well I will double check that the OAL is not jumping around so much and load the first 1k.
  12. ill go ahead and send dillon an email, with a link to this thread so they know exactly what I'm talking about. Ill try putting it back in a few more times.
  13. edit: Here are some pictures of the issue, I can make the powder bar cycle right now, but Im afraid of destroying it without this piece in. I have not tried it with powder yet. Operation Broken Piece Broken Piece inside a 1" locking nut for comparison
  14. Came back home today, found my new dies 1k brass and 1k bullets sitting on the doorstep I have only loaded about 500 rounds before on this press, then i switched from 40 cal to 9mm I setup the new dies and then something weird happened. A small square piece that is part of the powder bar popped out. I put it back in, and it just came out all over again, upon further review it is cracked. Now the powder die refuses to cycle properly. Is there a way to fix this or will i need to order a new powder assembly? It feels like something else is broken, as the dye would not cycle right even once i re-installed the small square piece.
  15. Agreed, otherwise you are operating in the blind. Your load data seems good, although I'd start just a shade lower and work up. I have a KKM barrel so I am able to load out to 1.145" You might try a slightly slower powder, like WSF, to make "full power" loads with a little more margin. I have a lot of tg which is why I am using that. Hopefully the start out load works well and will even work for idpa or something like that.
