  1. A view from the other side. (I haven't read all of the replies, sorry if I'm duplicating anything.) In 2014 I came home from Area 6 with a long building case of burnout. A lot of things contributed to it. (USPSA politics. Cheating friends.) Mostly it was needing some time away from the range. I decided I was going to take a couple of weeks off. A couple of weeks turned into a couple of months, turned into almost 10 years and counting. When I finally focused on something else, it was clear I had other priorities. I had four very dear friends (one of which is my avatar) who had spent a decade with me. They were nearing the end of their lives and I wanted to spend more time with them. I also realized that I hadn't done much in the way of maintenance around the house and if I was ever going to put it on the market, I had a lot of work to do. I always said once I got caught up on things I would go back as one of the old farts who just hung out with friends and didn't care about the score. But that's not me. If I'm going to invest time in something I have to attempt to do my best. Even when I was deep into USPSA, there were way too many 8 hour days for 110 rounds. I shot one match a year later. I had been an advocate for production optics so I wanted to shoot a match in that division, but I mostly wanted to see if the spark was still there. It wasn't.
  2. I just finished the first season, and won't watch the 2nd. I can't figure out why this show gets so much praise.
  3. I've always been confused by what exactly that wording allows. I started a thread on it several years ago, but didn't get much clarification. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=148858&hl=otherwise#entry1669913
  4. This would require all clubs to paint steel after ever run (Not going to happen). Lots of stages at major matches depend on activators. You would also need practiscore to make edits to their current program to allow designated target types depending on division selected. 3 rule changes: 1. Steel does not have to fall to score. 2. Timer RO will call hits on steel. 3. All targets activated by falling steel do not need to be engaged and will be scored 2 alpha. That was easy.
  5. I'm not sure either. . Who decides what qualifies as vis? I'm sure the founding fathers would be rolling in their graves over the mouse fart 9mm loads we shoot these days.
  6. Go to Liveshots. There's enough pics of Max there to convince me his gear wasn't in compliance. ETA: It looks like the basepad might be behind his hip bone. Maybe that's good enough.
  7. With all the talk of new divisions, why not consider rimfire. As everyone is saying about PCC, it would be a hell of a lot of fun. I can only think of 2 changes required to the rulebook: Steel doesn't have to fall to score. Any targets activated by falling steel are not part of the COF for rimfire division. Possibly a 3rd. Timer RO will call hits on steel. (Of course he would have to stop scoring the paper targets and pay attention, but that's a different discussion.)
  8. it would work great if our entry fees were as high as rodeo entry fees and if we had hundreds (maybe thousands) of people willing to pay to spectate. I don't see that happening anytime soon. A jackpot isn't that much more money than a local match, yesterday was 35 a run. Granted most people do both the AM and PM runs, but what if we came up with a sliding payout based on number of participants/entry fee? Only pay division and class winners or something, don't pay out nearly as deep as rodeo. Most of the matches around here pay back your entry fee, in "range bucks" if you win. Payout is based on # of competitors in each division/class.
  9. It is also why I hate matches with self RO "Staff day." Every squad has at least 2 CRO's. Lots of room for inconsistency there.
  10. You've been waiting on the flight for 31 day? Might want to try a different airline.
  11. Thanks, 6! The shooter also has to take part of the responsibility. It isn't the clubs fault that he doesn't know the rules of the game.
  12. No more of a joke than PCC is. PCC is cool not just a redefined pistol division. Correct. It is a rifle division, and as such, has no place in a pistol match. I don't care what caliber your rifle shoots, it's not a pistol.
  13. That's a 3-gun match with 3-gun rules. We're talking about a pistol match, with established safety rules. I have no doubt we could re-write the rulebook so a person could complete the COF with any number of weapons. I just don't think it is necessary, or a good idea. If PCC is so popular, hold it as a separate match.
  14. I bought a JPoint, but only because I needed the lightest optic possible to keep my CZ75 below the old weight limit.
  15. Normally comments like that are met with a chorus of "It's either a USPSA match or it isn't. You either follow the USPSA rulebook or you don't." I guess enough people like the idea of PCC so it's OK.
  16. According to Phil, it wasn't about the shooters who wanted Production Optics, it was about giving the plastic gun manufacturers a place where their guns were competitive.
  17. We've been shooting PCC at all of our USPSA matches if you like. No one that I know of ever complained.. Actually every month seems to be a few new ones. And everyone seems to want to try it So you run an outlaw match?
  18. I was CRO at a L2 match a few years ago. I was also the RO on the timer. A shooter had a jamb of some sort. After struggling with getting the round out of the chamber, he said to me "the round is stuck. I'm going to have to fire the gun to clear it." My reply was "as long as the gun is safe, you can finish the stage." Was I out of line? Would that fall into the category of coaching?
  19. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the chance of that is essentially zero. Dots are way, WAY faster than irons. Unless every single member of the super squad shoots irons, my bet is on a dot. I'm pretty sure Vogel or Sevigny won the "Open" portion of the Pro-Am with iron sights a few years ago. Yes, it is a different game, but not that different.

We have a saying down here: "Yankee, go home!"
  21. I did Yep. A $15/$20 match fee doesn't come close to compensating for getting to the range 3+ hours early, and shooting poorly because you're tired before you ever strap on your gear. I enjoyed the challenge of designing a good stage, but after a few years I just wanted to show up and shoot.
  22. It would be interesting to see SS/Revo and Prod/CO nationals held the same way as Open/L10. Pick a division and shoot the match. I think both Revo and CO would have very little participation (and I say that as a fan of CO.)
  23. Did you read the post right above yours?
  24. Sounds like you have less than 1 year in the game. What's your classification? Are you a certified RO? I would have made the same comments about you when you first showed up here on Enos. Maybe you've read the rulebook since then, but you answered a lot of rule questions based on what you thought the rules were, or should be, instead of what was written in the rulebook.
  25. I'm not convinced its worthy of a DQ either, but I could make the argument that registering for a division that you KNEW your equipment didn't qualify for was cheating. It's not like you can register to shoot open at the match. As MD, I would be unhappy if I had a wait list of people wanting to shoot the match with division compliant equipment and found out competitors were registered knowing full well they were going to get bumped to open. (I doubt that will happen at this match, but throwing it out there as a hypothetical situation.)
