2006 Uspsa Area 2 Championship

Recommended Posts

I just returned from visiting AZ Stats Chic in the hospital. She will probably be there for a bit. I don't have any details to share but needless to say she will not be able to correspond with any of you for a little while. Barb and Bob are respectfully requesting that the influx of phone calls and e-mails cease for a bit until she can get back home. She is hoping that will be sometime around the middle of next week. So if you pray say a prayer for Barb's swift recovery. If you don't pray send some positive vibes her way.

Thanks,

-Larry

Whooaa is me...

The match is full. Imagine 120+ envelopes on the counter when you arrive home... OMG!

My butt is sore from sitting at the computer for the past 5+ hours entering names... haven't started on the waiting list - but it's there.

Cheers

Poor Barb finally had to get a butt transplant...If sitting at the computer for hours doesn't get you, the butt chewin' from those that didn't get in the A2DC certainly will. :P Remember, it isn't over until one hour after finals are posted...we need you!!!

Seriously, GET WELL SOON BARB!!! We're pullin' for you!!!

The match dates are November 9 - 12, can someone clarify if this match is shot over that time or if it's a one day format. Sunday, November 12th, is this the end date of the match? I am trying to get my airline tickets and not sure how this works, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

If you are not working the match it goes like this: You shoot 5 stages* on Friday (either AM or PM), you shoot 5 stages on Saturday (Opposite AM or PM of Friday) and you shoot 2 stages on Sunday. After that there is the one hour snivel period followed by awards and prize table. I seem to recall getting done ~ 4pm last year.

Later,

Chuck

* Chrono counts as a stage.

Chuck, do you ave any idea how long it takes to shoot the 5 stages? I'm trying to get the wife to fly out with me but she doesn't want to sit at the house for 3 days doing nothing while I'm shooting the match. Also, it looks like I will have to take a flight out on Monday since we are shooting on Sunday???? Thanks again.

Just leave on Wednesday morning, then home on Monday. Leave the wife at home, and your travel issues are solved!!!!

Thanks Cam,are you trying to get me shot before the match? :o Oh, wait a minute, trying to get my slot I'll bet ;)

NuB,

The vague answer is 1/2 day. I may have the squad schedule from last year at home. I will post it this evening if I still have it. For an estimate look up sunrise and sunset times for that weekend. You pretty much start @ sunrise for the morning day and finish @ sunset for the afternoon day. Sunday is all day.

Later,

Chuck

PS: Dosen't your wife know how to shop???

As I remember, the format is typically half days. If you shoot late one day you shoot early the next day, and vis versa.

The awards and prize table can eat up a lot of time. If you want you can have someone pick up your prize. Just make sure you follow their rules.

Since I was pretty far down on the list, I think it was Monday before I walked the tables--well not quite that bad. It can go quite late, so if you are trying to catch a plane give yourself some extra time. The freeway is not necessarily crowded but if there is an accident it will back up forever. Side streets to the airport can take a lot of time. The rental car shuttle is good for another 30-45minutes. If you are flying SWA, their staff is pretty good with the firearm declaration. Other airlines are not as efficient. Wives can really enjoy shopping in the Area. Scottsdale Square, Kierland (spelling) Plaza, and Old Downtown Snottsdale are enjoyable.

Thanks for the response. I think I will take the plane out Monday giving me enough time. We have a second (vacation) home in Casa Grande so the wife is use to shopping :o and loves Scottsdale though my wallet does NOT :( I look forward to this, I never shot in Arizona before. Know any good places to get a CCW? I have been wanting to do it but could never find a place for the weeks we are there.

GnuBee,

I still had the schedule from 05. For Thursday and Friday, the early shift started at 0650 and finished by 1320 (with time off for lunch). The second shift started at 10:30 with a break around lunch. Sunday squads shot either 0650 & 0840 or 0745 & 0935. Finished at 1030. Scores posted at 1200 till 1300 for protest hour. Lunch, awards and prize tables there after. Like I said before, I seem to recall hitting the road at 1600.

Later,

Chuck

I have had traveled United, Delta, Southwest, and Frontier with guns and have not had any serious troubles yet. Frontier was by far the best as the counter personnel were well trained and Frontier has no ammo limit.

Traveling with a pistol and ammo is really not that difficult with any of the airlines. The key is being prepared and having your stuff in order. The pistol must be in a lockable hard case with a lock. I use a simple plastic guncase that also fits inside my normal luggage (out of sight out of mind). Your ammo needs to be either in factory type boxes or the plastic cartridge cases that have a separate hole for each individual cartridge. Generally each airline limits you to 11lbs. of ammo. I know Frontier has no ammo restriction.

When you get to the counter to check in you need to tell the clerk that you need to declare a firearm. At this time they will give you a tag that you sign declaring the weapon to be unloaded, sometimes the clerk will want to see that the weapon is empty (most that ask would never know one way or the other but be cooperative). You then put the signed tag inside the case and lock it. The clerk will then escort you over to the TSA check and you will need to be there until they run your bag in case they have any questions or need into the case.

I usually go to the website of the airline I am flying and read their regs and print myself a copy. I do the same with the TSA regs. This way if there is a question you can show them what there policy is.

Good luck, Craig

Thanks for all the well wishes, I really appreciate the support. I'm four units of blood fuller than I was on Friday - nice & rosey cheeks ;-). If you are looking to send sweets - you can mail to the registration address.

Thanks...
