I found a LGS that has CCI 500's on sale if you're a member for $66/1k.

Was this at Scheels or Bristle Cone?  If so how long ago did you buy them and did they have a decent stock left?

That's the cheapest I've seen them in the years. Still double what they were.

I was just deleting some old emails and Natchez had CCI 500’s for $149. Per 5000. ☹️ But at least that’s getting better.

oh.  well, that is disheartening.

the good news is that in about 3 months it is likely to be at that price.

after that point I have no guesses

my reason is that things are stabilizing.

and It is 10 bucks more than I think a proper price...

like last time...

Same thing, since the Clinton primer scare I have stayed well stocked with primers.  Some may call it hoarding, I don't care, I vowed to never be caught short again and it has served me well.

+1

Some folks confuse preparation, with hoarding.

Buying things when they're low priced and plentiful is preparation.

Buying things when they're high priced and in short supply is hoarding...

...and stupid.

Also buying things that you’ll never use is hoarding and stupid.

I ran into an OLD guy at Wal-Mart (in Phoenix) a year ago that could barely walk, but was searching for ammo. I told him the gun shop down the road had what he was looking for.

I asked him where he shot (range, desert ?), and he said, he hadn't shot in years, but "NEEDED" ammo.

I wished him well, and gave him the directions to the gun shop. His life, his money.

I guess it would be more fitting for those people that go on the “coupon binge” buying and getting things that they’ll never use but buy because they have a coupon. Sort of the same as the two guys I overheard talking about buying primers, magazines ect and admitting that they had no use for them.

different point of   view here:newer reloaders who had to buy supplies  when available, regardless of  price, certainly were not hoarding(hoarders). You are not a reloader  if you just  have an empty press and no supplies

Only those who could buy when  stock  was high an d prices were low  were spared  the gouging  that started in 2020

With all this "hoarding" what number of primers constitutes hoarding? 🤣

More than you'll ever use? I know guys that don't reload that were buying primers at inflated prices.

I know guys that don't even shoot anymore due to their age, that were buying primers at inflated prices.

That's hoarding.

Buying anything when the prices are up and it's in short supply, isn't very smart.

in terms of primer prices...

what are you willing to spend on dinner?

I want enough primers to practice and do well in the competitions

described on this forum.

I've found the primers and other components are

not a real block, (at some point prices are a stop) the time/travel

and related expenses are a bigger hurdle.

so how many?  double your best guess for a year and

try to have a couple of years worth of those primers.

the line of thinking to avoid is  what Would I do

if I can't buy more primers...

how many primers did you spend getting that rabbit?

hohohohohohoh

That’s exactly what I was getting at! Buying up stuff that you’ll personally not use but deleting the supply for those those who do.
I guess it’s just that we were used to living in the land of plenty and that’s withering away. If you were getting low on something you simply went to your local supplier and bought what you wanted/needed. I’m not just talking reloading components either, it’s everything anymore.

ok your outlook.

we are in a realm of 'marketing'

Primers have to be a commodity type of item...

so they should be generally available and the price

should be within a range...  and yes we can crack the whip

where the fun flows is that once we come through the shortage

most people will 'stock-up.'   There is no good way to stop that.

it will keep the price up. yes.

soon, because it has been true in our recent past, the prices

will drop after the hoarders re-stock.

Get if you need, just what you need.

wait a year ish... get primers once they drop back.

the word freedom is included...

you are free to set your 'need' level to accord with your cash.

I have been called things besides 'frugal'

why don't they make pot pies with aluminum pans anymore?

I do wonder if we will start threads exploring the merits of reloading primers

and if the cup is brass or steel and if stepped walls should be avoided.

hold your breath a while longer, primers soon

shoes for industry!

Not much, and I don't believe in tipping. I don't pay your employees, you do.

One old fellow once told me he didn’t tip at restaurants because that was their job. But he’d give the kid at the grocery store a tip for taking his groceries out to the car because it was above his job.
