Take a look for this one on the Classifieds, Brand New Carne 9mm (just need to modify slightly to shoot right hand), even better if you are a lefty, but available now and no wait times.  But be quick otherwise I may have to buy it .....

And at around 5k, a real bargain....

**NEW** Carne Custom 2011 Open Gun 9mm

I’d even be willing to sell it without a grip!  Still has exactly ZERO rounds through it….

I had a limited gun build by Mark at carne customs. Pricing is good and overall very nice and patient guy. I've only had one gun build (so far) but overall had a good experience with him. The quality is definitely there and I never felt like he was dragging his feet. Looked through the forums and he's had nothing but good reviews. His guns run.

The real question should be who is a good open builder that doesn’t have a long lead time!!!

You have just read of several on this thread.  Also, check around locally.  A gunsmith near me built a friend an Open gun.  Cheely frame, Caspian slide, plastic grip and all EGW internals.  $2600.  It runs.  That being said, none of the quality gunsmiths near me are accepting new work.

The only ones that offer fastest turn around time is Atlas by adding one of their guns in the wishlist and getting an email notification, they ship it out a week after you hop on a phone with them.

Infinity is 8-10 months from order, Limcat is 6-8 months, Phoenix Honcho - pushing a year now and hearing bs from them, EMG - 2 years, that is what I am on order for. But Atlas has been my best but, unless you want to overpay for a used one. :D

Limcat gave me 3-4 months in June. I’m quickly catching up on my 4 month mark so we will see if it’s 4 or 6.

Regardless Julian at Limcat is very accomodating, I just had a Wildcat built for IDPA and it was too heavy since we had a steel frame and he took it back and swapped it out for an alumnium frame at no extra cost, so I trust them regardless.

And you read above that D2 Custom is about 8 weeks, not months.

I saw someone post limcat as a 6-8 month lead time.   They quoted me 4 months on both my builds and I had each of them within 3 months time of placing the order.

Well I’ve got a current build on order. It’s supposed to be here this week but from time of order and deposit placed it’s been five months and change. (146 days today)

2011 builders are mostly regionally based. I would always opt for someone close to you to make getting the gun back to them easier. +1000 if you can drive to their shop.

If distance doesn't bother you, Don over at Venom Customs hands down would be my go-to builder and has been for over 8 years now.

Got a build in the queue with Don. Can definitely attest to his professionalism and very easy to work with. Answers all questions without making you feel like an idiot.

I looked at a LOT of builders when I decided to go Open.

And while there are many great builders who can put an open gun together and make it run....attention to detail and aesthetics are VERY important to me.

I see MANY pistols posted up on here with props being thrown out to the builder on what a great job they did. If you look close at most of those rigs there are tooling marks left, parts not blended, etc.

I know for myself, when I am spending open gun money, I want it to be as perfect as it can be and look GREAT.

So I harassed Don at Venom Custom and convinced him to build me three open rigs.

Then one of my close friends had him build him two open guns.

Then another good friend had Don guild him a rig.

And just a couple of weeks ago, another good friend just received another work of art from Don.

Hmmm.....I think I should be getting some kind of kick back here as Venom salesman of the year!!! 🤔😃

Anyways...settling on a builder can be tuff. Try and look at and shoot as many as you can before deciding.

Good luck on your build.

Oh...and some Venom porn....
