WestTex
Can anyone tell me if the ape hanger and zig racker are close enough to be interchangeable? I run a zig racker but have a bad habit of riding my thumb high and hitting it. Pics would be a definite help. Thanks!
jpeters11
Should be the same. My atlas custom came with a zig racker and my thumb kept getting in the way, tossed on one of their ape hangers and all is good.

Aircooled6racer
Hello: Heat it up and bend it. I think the ape hanger is just a Brazos racker for sideways mounts that is bent up. Thanks, Eric

Buy one of these portable propane torches from Walmart, Home Depot or Lowe’s for less than $16. Portable propane torch. I've got an oxy/acetylene torch, I just wasn't sure how much heat the finish would take.

If it gets too hot, you can kill the springs inside. Put the flat part with the ball bearing in a vice up to about the bend and warm it up. then softly hit it with a mallet. It doesn't take much. I have done it many times.

May not be the right way to do it but while it was on the gun I took a crescent wrench and slowly started bending it up. Worked for me but your mileage may vary if you try this. WestTex
I think I'll just try throwing it in a vice and not while it's still mounted to my brand new gun lol.

echotango
I would never do it in the gun. You could also loosen the fit by doing so. Just put it in a vise.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: when you put it in a vise make sure you use pieces of soft metal on either side of the racker to protect the finish. Most bench vises have serrations that will tear up the racker. You can use aluminum or a piece of copper pipe. Thanks, Eric

Nic_USPSA_C
Had the same problem. Installed my Zig Raker in a Vice and used too much heat. The heat damaged the spring in the ball detent, the ball detent on the end is the only one working. Used it this way without any issues.
cnote
Doesn't someone make one way "bent up" right from production. I believe Ive seen them around. I find them unattractive, but would definitely solve the issue.
