tyler2you
I'm having trouble activating the mag release on my 2011 and have to shift my grip more than I'd like to get it to work. The current release is threaded and I have a Dawson Low Profile Button installed. I've seen the CR Speed Snake Skin Button and the STI Extended Button. Does anyone have experience with either one? Or, should I be looking for an extended mag catch? Thanks.
Aggieddad02
I have small hands and like you have trouble reaching the magazine release without shifting my grip. When I went to the 2011 platform I tried the STI oversized button and have used it ever since. Two things I found were (1) Do not use too light of a magazine release spring, I have found the normal spring to work best and (2) slightly angle the button upwards towards the safety, this will take a little work to find the perfect spot. This serves 2 purposes, first it keeps from hitting the button with your weak hand and second it makes it easier to hit during mag changes. ShadoFann
I have the same problem. I've been using an extended Dawson mag button and still occasionally had problems activating the mag release. I recently purchased the CR Speed Snakeskin button and it seems to have fixed my problem.
peterthefish
I use a Dawson extended Posilock and the Lo Pro button - no need to shift grip - in fact if I don't get a good grip with my support hand it sometimes hits the button.
truborshooter
STI extended, like Aggiedad says, on my Trubor, SteelMaster and even my Springer 1911 Same reach all guns, one less thing to think about
LoganbillJ
Another +1 for the Dawson extended posi-lock with lo pro button. Perfect length and feel.

GunBugBit
Using a Wilson which is just a checkered, round, raised, oversize button. It works well for my medium-sized hand. The STI and CR Snakeskin look really good, never tried them. Edited May 4, 2015 by GunBugBit
greyhounder
Have a STI Sentry 1911, put in a Wilson extended have used in a Springfield Loaded and Kimber, went in and worked no problems. GOT for the Sentry and 1-too big to fit in frame. 2-once in,locking screw would not turn enough to lock the release in and let it function. 3-once screw lock fitted to fully lock very hard to seat mags. First STI, so this common on STI? or problem with mine or the parts? BTW took parts from Springfield and they wouldn't work either.
tyler2you
Thanks to all for the advice. I've got a snakeskin button on the way and hoping it will help.
Bigsampson
I have the same problems. Have the larger Dawson's button, but still have to shift grip to activate. I ordered the Aradondo button. After getting it in, am not sure the plastic will be robust enough. Will give it a try, but will probably end up w the STI extended myself. GunBugBit
Switched to the STI. I had to relieve the grip panel to allow the button to press down all the way. It's working well.
Chucksignal
I use the STI extended on all my pistols and love them. Although others that have shot my pistols have had problems dropping the mags unintentionally.
Steve RA
Or you could try the right side release from Jimmy Mitchell. Release with trigger finger. http://www.bulletworks.com/bulletworks/bulletworks.html
gng4life
I use the Dawson posi-lock and STI extended, it's a great combination. I have tried many combinations, including the RHT, but this is the way to go.

Bigsampson
I wasn't aware there was a right side release for 2011's on the market. Just ordered one from Jimmy Mitchell. Very much look forward to running it.
coltlover
STI extended. Perfect for average size hands, or slightly smaller, on 2011 pistols. Allows me to change mags w/o having to adjust grip.
echotango
I use the STI ext. I also do not have to adjust my grip to change mags.
splashdown
I love the Mitchell right side mag catch. I sold all of my STI stuff, but I still have three of these just in case I get back into the platform someday (and I'm sure I will).
BoyGlock
Is there an oversized (diameter-wise) mag catch? My old STI grip's magcatch hole is a bit bigger that wont hold the mag catch in place and let it slide past the grips left side. Maybe Its worn with age and use. Biloxi23
Is it the mag release that's worn, or is it the locking groove on the right side of the grip. The tab on the locking screw engages this groove and locks the mag release into the grip.
