Get the most from a compensator with 9mm MINOR?
truborshooter replied to StealthyBlagga's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
Steel Challenge load 95 MG JHP, 6.8 Ramshot Silhouette, 1.045" oal, fed cases, win spp 9mm 4.15 bbl, old style T1 Steelmaster, 1335fps, 127 pf, 2" -10 rnd groups, rested 50 yds dot doesn't leave c-more free style but loud as hell, plugs and muffs suggested I've loaded to 7.4 Silh for 1390 fps, 132pf, accuracy and recoiled remained reasonable, but didn't need it for Steel Challenge load seemed louder to some bystanders but not all -
another alternative just out https://www.shootingillustrated.com/articles/2017/8/2/gear-bag-butler-creek-asap-universal-magazine-loader/

There is a well done thread a few years back about making M&P open guns. Appeared the shorter barrel worked better than the 5" if I remember correctly I did a quick search but sorry didn't find it
-
Put a SV trigger bow with small curved insert in both my Trubor and SteelMaster, I got small hands. Both were pretty much drop-ins Maybe I was just lucky
-
The biggest problem with the aftermarket drop in barrels for my CORE is the were cut to S&W specs on the locking block - none make full contact in battery. I got a Wilson match, KKM Match and factory 1 dot. In battery the barrels are springy like a 1911 that needs a new barrel link. I fitted an Apex gunsmith and took off a lot less then they suggested. Fitted properly it shoots great. in battery it is rock solid Smith, of course, doesn't sell the lousy $12.68 part for the 9mm guns. Without Apex for barrel and trigger parts, the M&P would have be out of my house in a week. The factory barrel couldn't hold 10" groups at 50 feet, even with loads that my other guns shoot under 2", benched of course. The Apex hold around 2" 25 yd with hand loads it likes

Case Gauge Shockbottle question. Undersized Die?
truborshooter replied to Timido's topic in 9mm/38 Caliber
A160 grain bullet at 1.140 is well into the case Maybe the gauge failures are due to case wall thickness variations and taper with a deep set bullet -
Leupold Deltapoint Pro factory data says Sight window: 25.7mm x 17.5mm; 1.01” x 0.68”

Steel challenge training banners.
truborshooter replied to quietgunner77's topic in Training Techniques
jkrispies, the have different backgrounds from dark green to yellowish fall leaves, but your focus should be on the steel only so blocking out the backgrounds may be a good thing Yes the banners themselves are really great. the widest banner, Accelerator and Smoke & Hope have a spec'd grommet width of 96", mine are around 93 3/4" and the banner itself extends another couple of inches on either side quietgunner, so if I sell you Florida boys a couple of canvas awning for your boat for $260 and neither actually fit per my own spec's, then tell you the fittings are only off by about 1/4" but some are over 1 1/2 inches and then ignore your complaints, you boys would be fine with that and just tape them down? Hey I got a couple of boat awnings for sale! -
Steel challenge training banners.
truborshooter replied to quietgunner77's topic in Training Techniques
thanks for the reply any problems with them? the grommets on my set don't match up anywhere near the wall layout drawing or anywhere near with each other some are off as much as 1.5 " -
Per Quickload estimates: 5" bbl 897 fps, 131.8 pf, 16" bbl 1071 fps, 157.4 pf, slightly more

I see more BFE on my light loads guns, like my Steel Challenge and the 1911 I use for instruction. The Federal primers being soft tends to help but Win and others just don't seal well under 115pf
