Yeah I like my RN CMJs at between 1.240 and 1.250 too.

Gump, try some 3n38 or n350 if you can get some. WSF works nicely too. Bit more barky though.

Beer, I was able to get some chrono done today. This was the second load as the 7.2 grains of AutoComp was not even close.

Hey, hey, you can take this chrono crap someplace else; last I checked, this thread was for porn! :)

ONLY one red dot gun out of six, that doesn't seem right for you :roflol:

Anything new to you here? They all look great, but love the Hunter and Open projects!

Gump, yeah loads that make major in other guns won't be hot enough in a v12. It's not just how many ports there are but how far down the barrel they start. Not much length to accelerate the projectile before the ports start.

How did it shoot with the autocomp?

You were a help when I took on the refit Mr. Neal. Only the trigger is left from the exterior view and I'm not convinced there yet. I have some springs waiting for me in Texas as well as an Xtreme FPB. I'll also install a FO FS.

I was extremely conservative when I did the internal cleanup but have more confidence now and will take a second careful pass touching up areas I know I missed. I haven't measured the pull but both the DA and SA are smooth and in the case of the SA as light as I want.

I have the Xtreme grips for a magwell app and will pick one up later. Both guns have the same feel and of course fit the same holsters. The 9mm will be for Steel Challenge and 3Gun while the LC is now my GOTO IPSC machine.

Not bad for a Tanfo rookie even if I do say so myself. :-)

It shot well I think. Can't really compare to anything since only other load I shot out of it blew the head of the grip screw off, LOL. I am still shooting production for now. Once I finish the Gator Classic and finish all the tweaks and get all the accessories for open gun I'll test some different powders. I NEVER thought I'd say this but if I enjoy this open gun as much as I have the few times I shot it I just may have to sell one of my 9mm Stock II's and get another Gold Custom:-)

Well we are nearing completion. DAA Racemaster holster came today. I am gonna polish the slide racker to give it a stainless look and get some black EG grips so I can put these back on my Stock III. Planning on running Open in November since there's a lull for me between majors. post-47835-141184120391_thumb.jpg

With a thoughtfully lightened slide and the right springs (found from trial and error using your loads) the recoil of the gun brings the sights/dot back on target predictably and quickly.

That is the goal. Your grip also plays a part in this, so consistency of grip is important.

Cool! Cuts!

So, can you tell a difference? I've been thinking of doing some slotting on my open gun (made from limited slide).

The difference is huge! A factory Hunter weighs 3.6oz more than a Limited and it's all in the nose. I shed 1.7oz from the slide and 1.1oz from the frame for a fighting weight of 43.4oz, just 0.8oz heavier than the Limited, but better balanced if you ask me :)

Now for the slide: the factory Hunter slide weighs 15.1oz (fully dressed), the Limited slide weighs 12.5oz and my new 6" slide weighs 13.4oz, but with more than a half ounce out of the rear and the added leverage of an inch and a quarter more barrel, I think it shoots noticibly flatter.

Here is my match in 9mm. It has Wolff 8lb recoil spring, 14lb hammer spring, Henning XL firing pin and Cajun gun works return spring. I also installed a Dawson high viz front sight and Copper Gun grips in red. Polished up the internals and she is as good as it gets without going crazy and replacing a bunch more stuff. It helps a bunch to have Nealio as my go to for advice. This is my first Tanfoglio and I know it won't be my last.

I really like the colour scheme on that gun. I'll do something similar when I get my Limited Pro refinished. I like burnt bronze, OD Green, dark earth and dark burgundy. I'll use some combo of those when the time comes. The finish on those Xtremes should last very well. My Xtreme LC is all black and I had no choice.

Can one of you gurus summarize the theory behind slide lightening for us newbies. I assume that spring weights are part of it but what are the expectations and is there a downside?

Search for a thread started by CHA-LEE, he documented a whole bunch of experiments he did on slide lightening to some Tanfoglio top ends. Really good reading. Good luck
