Why Open of course! I'm actually not kidding. The dot makes hard shots and shooting on the move easier plus with one or no mag changes it's much easier to break down a stage. BeerBaron Posted September 11, 2014 Share Posted September 11, 2014 lol, open.... the darkside. actually what kneelingatlas says makes a lot of sense. that is assuming you can deal with the blast of an open gun. and if not just shoot open minor which is very pleasant to shoot. I know a few guys who basically went straight to open. they didn't enjoy iron sights at all. You could slide into a gold team/eric custom for pretty reasonable money (the one bayougump bought was a steal) or czechmates seem to go for very reasonable money too. I honestly believe that using iron sights and not having a comp will help you develop good habbits. I've moved to open for a while, but I still enjoy shooting irons. The Quinn mount is like 2 inches tall over gun and only 2 screws will hold it on. I like the look but just WAAAYYYY too tall. I was told it would fit Tanfos from person got it from but it's gotta be for a SVI/STI. If anyone wants it I'll give them a smoking good deal. OK, I am. I cerakoted my Stock III to resemble the extreme version. Now I just need to get the magazine pads to complete the look. Step after that is the internals. Will be using the "Limited Match" in USPSA Limited Division (major PF) and the "Match Limited Pro" in Steel Challenge and 3-Gun (if I ever start doing 3-Gun). Worked out great. I saw the pics. you definitely got a 2011 type mount. it's so much taller as the 2011's have a much taller slide (so distance from frame mount to top of slide is much higher on a 2011 vs a tanfog). not to mention the hole spacing is a dead give away. I'm not sure if they make the upright mount you have in the tanfog bolt pattern but as nealio posted they do make the 90 mount in tanfoglio pattern. cost is about $100 from DAA. it's a nice mount but still too far forward on a V12. On mine I moved it back one screw (so only 3 screws holding it) which works ok, but the better solution is the cheely setback 90 mount. He recently made a batch and may or may not have some left. From memory cost on those is $100 too but it's a better mount as it puts the cmore further to the rear. it's nice and low too. If you shoot a lot of iron sights and plan to still shoot irons I'd suggest going the 90 mount. it puts the dot a lot lower than any upright mount can. my dot is about 17mm above the slide so basically only 10mm above a normal height front sight. Yes, I had the wrong mount. I put the stock one back on and it's MMUUUUCCCHHHH lower, lol. A friend has a KIDD blast shield for me in trade and I'm returning the 2011 mount and gonna try out a thumb rest from a friend. My sidewinder racker should be in next week. I've gotta do a little fitting on my Ghost holster and then I'll be set except for a few big sticks from George later on. Throwing the 38 super conversion on my 650 tonight and gonna make some test rounds with the Autocomp and 7625 I've got on hand. I decided to start with running 1.240 pushing 124's behind 7.4 grains Autocomp. Hope to chrono it next week. With the popple holes I'm thinking I may have to add more but we'll see. I prefer the Match now that it has the magwell. The weight of this gun with the rail and magwell make it great for USPSA Limited Division. The Limited Pro feels much lighter, which would be preferable (to me) for quick transitions for Steel Challenge. That being said... BeerBaron Posted September 17, 2014 Share Posted September 17, 2014 you are pretty well spot on. since steel challenge is all single shots on target then transition to the next one lighter guns that transition easily are the way to go. for USPSA where you basically need to double tap everything you want a gun that can tame the recoil nicely so you need to balance fast transitions with good recoil recovery (typically means heavier gun).
