  1. .38SC Atlas Full Custom. Tread pattern cuts Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Atlas Full Custom Custom .38SC Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I second the Marriott in Sugarland. It's close enough to Rosenberg and there are good places to eat within walking distance
  4. Most people in this sport are happy to give advice and let you try their gear. One thing I had to work on was slowing down at the end of a run. You are so amped up trying to go fast, but once you are finished you need to take things really slow. You don't have to be fast clearing the gun and putting it in your holster. We had a M class shooter DQ because he was going to fast and dropped his gun before he could make it into his holster.
  5. I recently went to a major match 5 hours away and only brought the one gun I had for that division. I had an issue on the 2nd to last stage and didn't know if I would be able to finish. Luckily, someone in the squad had an extra part I was able to drop in and finish the last stage. I have guns specifically for other divisions, so I am selling those to get a backup for the division I am focusing on. You're right, it's a significant cost, but this ain't a cheap sport...
  6. CHA-LEE is right, needs to be sort of habit so you can focus attention on other things in the match.
  7. 12 lb Wolff, I change about once a year and I shoot about 5-6K rounds a year
  8. There is a guy in Alaska that goes by the username snowshooze on EBay that makes a few upgrades to the 650 that makes like really easy. He sells all the mods for about $105 and calls it the “grand slam”. I would definitely look into it.
  9. I love the 1911/2011 platform so I actually started in Single Stack. I got convinced hicap is where all the cool kids play so I moved to Limited and jumped to Open a VERY short time after by listening to all my friends. I learned that I’m not a personal fan of the “dot” so I went back to Limited. I guess the point is do what is the most FUN for you
  10. I go to practice once a week (we have a regularly scheduled practice on Tuesday nights in Baton Rouge if anyone is close) and usually have a local match on the weekend that I consider practice. Trying to mix dry fire into that as well.
  11. I love the DAA Alpha-X. I have a few different grips and it’s easy to change the block out to fit the different ones.
  12. I was in his squad for this one... I really hate that for you.

    Doors

Doors always give me heartburn at a match. We just had a level III match last weekend and had a stage with 4 doors. The shooter before me DQ'ed by having his gun too low when opening the first one.
  14. If you are looking at the Titan, I would also suggest looking at the Nemesis. I have a Titan, but I am looking to buy a Nemesis now. I hear the sight block helps the gun return to "zero" quicker for follow up shots.
  15. I have been running Lucas Extreme Duty, but someone sent me something called Alpha Sauce when I purchased a gun and I have been trying that out.
  16. I have two STI Trojans, I bought one from the Classified forum. I have never have any issues with the gun and I have around 5k rounds through one of them. Dan Wesson makes an awesome gun though.
  17. I recently got a Titan and have been extremely happy with it. I am going from single stack to limited, so just the magazine capacity alone is nice for me! I regret not shooting a sight block first to try it, but I don't think you can go wrong with Atlas.
  18. I have an STI Trojan with a Red Hill Tactical holster. When you go to order the 1911 holster, there is a drop down option for STI Trojan. I did have to cut the rubber spacers slightly to ensure a little tighter fit, but it has been perfect.
  19. I have a Trojan and Freedom Gunworks 1911. I bought a regular 1911 holster from Red Hill Tactical and the FGW 1911 slides in and out fine. The Trojan kept getting hung up on the draw, so I ordered a Trojan holster from RHT and it comes out much smoother now. I know there is not a ton of difference, but I noticed the smoothness getting the gun out with a specific Trojan made holster.
  20. I had the same problem putting 10 rounds into my Tripp mags. I changed the springs out thinking they were worn out and that fixed the problem for me.
  21. I am considering adding a Stan Chen Magwell Gen 2 to one of my 1911s. http://www.chencustom.com/magwells-1 I like the low profile look. I currently use Dawson Precision basepads on all my magazines. Does anyone know if these basepads will fit with that Magwell?
  22. I am looking to buy a Freedom Gunworks 1911 as my first custom pistol. Does anyone have any reviews or comments on their products? I’m wanting to know about the quality, how well the hold up with a lot of rounds through them, and any issuss people have experienced. Trying to get some feedback before I purchase. Thanks in advance.
  23. There is a lot of great advice in the this thread. I normally breeze through the top posts, but this is worth the read. Getting a mentor for this sport is a must, there is a lot to learn.
  24. I've been shooting for a long time, but recently got bit by the USPSA bug after going to a practice one night. It is a lot more fun than shooting at a paper target in a bay!
