  1. Out of my 627 V-Comp using a 150 grain LRN, Short Colt brass and 4.1 VVN310 seated at 1.165. I can put 3 rounds on a 1" target paster at 50 yds and of course that is using a sandbag rest. No special work done to the gun besides a trigger job.
  2. Hogue makes both a long and short version of the cylinder release if you do not like the long one. Since Millet rear sights are no longer available Bowen is the only rear sight that is similar to the Millet that has both windage and elevation adjustments. Again as Revopop said it is all a matter of preference.
  3. Bowen makes the High Rough Country Sight which is similiar to the Millet, but the price is a lot higher. You can get them at Brownells. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=61196/sku/_400__High_Rough_Country_Sight
  4. Be careful as this is a type of acid and will ruin some finishes. Leave in soultion as minimal as possible 15 to 30 minutes at a time and if needed re-pete process every 15 minutes rinse off and soak again.
  5. N320 4.9 grains, 165 jacketed bullet, 994 FPS, PF 164 N320 5.2 grains, 165 jacketed bullet, 1038 FPS, PF 171 (max load) Over all length 1.126 Lead bullets will run a little faster with the same load.
  6. I found a couple of loads that others have posted. 2.4 Clays, OAL 1.21 3.5 Solo 1000, 1.130 This should give you a start and you might try a search under the reloading tab for 38 short colt.
  7. I use Eotech as it is the brightest dot I have ever used and I can also get it with the 1 minute dot which makes it easy to sight in and is accurate for the 50 yd shots. I have tried C-More and Oko dot and they seem to dance more when shooting and I notice that more people with the C-More always seem to lose the dot every once in a while. Another cool thing about my Eotech is that is uses the same batteries as my Pro Ears so I always have spare batteries if they go dead in my scope. The only compliant I have is the weight of the Eotech and that is just me. Seems like Jerry handles the weight ok maybe I need to practice more or change the batteries in my brain.
  8. This is probably a little late but try betterbullets.com and get the 150 grain 38 super and get it in the .358. Then 2.7 to 2.9 VV N310 and OAL 1.160 for 38 short colt. At the 2.9 should give you 850 fps and the 2.7 should give you about 750 fps.
  9. Extreme bullets makes a 147 plated at .357. www.betterbullets.com makes a 125 and a 150 at .357 they are both lead. I had a .356 barrel put on my 627 and the only bullets I could get to group are .357. The .356 and .358 shoot good up closeat 10 to 15 yds but can't keep them on a paper plate at 50 yds. The .357 150 from better bullets will group 2" at 50 yds. I am shooting 38 short colt.
  10. I used to use the 150 Master Blaster Moly coated and in 38 Short Colt my load was 2.9 to 3.0 of VV N310 with a OAL of 1.175 for an average of 850 fps and a power factor of 127.5. Since Master Blasters went out of business I started using www.betterbullets.com 150 grain 38 super sized at .357 with 2.8 to 2.9 VV N310 OAL at 1.160 for an average of 850 fps and a power factor of 127.5. Both loads will hold 2" at 50 yds. With the profile of 147 from Black Bullets I would start with a OAL of 1.130 and work up and down from there. I would venture close to 3 grains but I would stay away from anything over 3.1 grains. The bullet from betterbullets are lead and not moly coated and you can get them sized either .357 or .358. I use the .357 as I have a .356 barrel on my revolver and it eats up .357 but will not group .358 or .356 go figure. All the 147 Black bullets that I measured came out .356.5 and I am going to give them a try someday but with the pointed nose on the betterbullet it makes for a quicker reload. Just a note that N310 is sometimes hard to get your hands on but you can order it online thru Midway or any other place that carrys powder. It is a fast burning powder and is very clean. Hope this helps and welcome to the short side.
  11. I have two predictions. 1) Several people will zero the stage 2) I won't be one of them If it is shot under 36 seconds and all X's there will be some negitive scores. If you shoot it over 36 seconds and get all X's then your score will be whatever your time over 36 seconds was. There are so many possibilities that could get you to zero or close but even if it does happen. It is still not the true Far & Near Standards and the scores will only reflect an altered stage. I still hope for the true Far & Near Standards to show up again some day.
  12. Just buy a 625PC and it already has the shortened cylinder.
  13. I shoot my 627 with 38 short colt in USPSA with a red dot and I shoot minor. As long as you are hitting A's major or minor doesn't matter and if the course is revolver friendly you can beat some of the open autos. I just use USPSA to practice for ICORE since I don't have an ICORE club that is near.
  14. Check for peening of the cylinder stop slots on the cylinder. I had a revolver that had just enough peening that even a new cylinder stop did not fix the problem. I had the entrance ramp made a little wider and centered and the stops recut on my cylinder.
  15. I am looking for loads with the 170 Billy Bullets and 38 Short Colt brass. I am looking for powder charge and seating depth. If you have it could you include the power factor. Thanks Dean
  16. Doc540 Does this FAMCO make cylinders for revolvers and if they do how do I get in touch with them? I am looking for someone to make a 38 Short Colt cylinder for my 8 shot. I had my cylinder shortened and the forcing cone on the barrel extended. It works great but without the forcing cone in the cylinder it is just a straight bore to the forcing cone on the barrel. Even though I can shoot 2" groups at 50 yds I would just like to keep my gun a little cleaner and not lose so much gas out the sides. Call me crazy but if the price is right why not. Revoman
  17. Smith and Wesson can do this for you. If you send them an e-mail they will tell you where to send it and what the cost will be. I do not know if they can change it to 22 mag. If I remember right the cost is between $250 to $275 + shipping.
  18. Shows you how much I stay up on the rules. I might have my barrel milled down just for something to do. You know its not all about how you shoot but how you look. Look at Cliff
  19. Pinnacle work is top notch as I have had him do a number of revolvers for me. You might want to check on the milling of the barrel to make sure that is allowed in USPSA. They might only allow stock barrels with only recrowning and work on the forcing cone along with sights.
  20. I am talking about the 627s 38 Supers that had .357 barrels on them and if I am not mistaken the new run had the same barrel. Of my other 627s all of them .357s they can shoot groups of 1" or less at 25 yds. Just had to find the right bullet and powder combination. On the 625's I own 2 5" PC and they both will group around 1" to 1 1/2" at 25 and I got them both off of gunbroker for $725 each. Try finding them for that price again, I was just in the right place at the right time.
  21. Why would you want to do that to a gun you just paid $1200 for? (Even though I have done that before) I would just think that with a new run and if you wanted them to sell then some of the things would need to be changed for the better not just left the same or made worse. Just for the record I would have bought one of the new ones if they had had some changes. Without the changes I will wait and try to buy one of the first run for a lot less money as they will come down or wait until the second run comes down in price. Then I will order the barrel blank and have it made to my specs.
  22. If they had actually modified the 38 Super 627 from the first run. Example would be a different profile on the barrel and a true .356 barrel maybe a 6 to 6 1/2 inch barrel. Stayed with the original Miculek grips instead of a cheaper brand or at least put some rubber Hogues on it and not charge extra for the cheap colored grips. I think they would have sold better.
  23. I have ordered a hammer from Smith & Wesson and Brownells before and they never asked about an FFL, just what payment I was going to use.

That's weird. My sister works for FedEx, so I'm well familiar with their procedures and policies (I get a sweet discount too). That is absolutely not their policy, only handguns have to be sent overnight. You can find their policy on their website, print it off, and take it into the station with you. I'd suggest you call 1-800-GO-FEDEX and get pissed. Having said all that, Carmoney's right, if you know a guy with an FFL who can send stuff through the regular mail that's the cheapest way to go. I did call FedEx and I got the same answer and then I ask for a supervisor and was told the same, go figure. Next time I will ship and tell them machine parts.

I had a quote from Smith & Wesson before I just bought a 10 shot and I think it was $225. Then you need to add shipping on top of that and what I just got hosed for shipping to NC from Iowa cost $78 and if you have to pay return shipping you would be looking at another $78 which would bring the total cost to $375 which is still cheaper than the new price for a 10 shot at around $675 but only if you gat a hell of a deal on a 6 shot. I know that Smith is in Massachusetts and shipping might cost a little more unless you know or have a FFL and can ship it USPS. The FedEx here in Mt Pleasant has taken the stance that any firearm or firearm part has to be shipped overnight. So being the sarcatic SOB I am I asked if I just had to ship a front sight for a revolver through them would I have to ship it over night and the answer was yes. What A-- H----. but what can you do as your hands are tied if you don't have a FFL or one that will ship for you. Enough bitching wish you luck on your project.
