  1. I have a Carmonized hammer on my 586L-Comp, which is my carry gun. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger with factory ammo. If staking my life on it isn't real world. Then I guess I don't know what the "real world" is. IDPA reminds me of a movie, The World According to Garp. Maybe that is why I dont participate in IDPA.
  2. It will probably bring a good price I wish I had never sold the 2 I had
  3. If your 625 is ported that will put you in open class in USPSA and ICORE. You will need to change the barrel to a non-ported barrel. On the 610 or 646 I would go with the 610 and if you are really really lucky buy a 5". That is almost like finding hens teeth. Besides you can shoot both 10mm and 40 through the 610 and only 40 through the 646.
  4. Ok I get it now it is time to dog revoman. :-) I did modify it just a little by replacing the barrel with a 38 super barrel, cut the cylinder back to 38 short colt and had it blued. But on the bright side there is only 199 left so I actually made my other 627 61/2" and all the others out there worth more. So I should get a thank you from all the other owners of the 6 1/2". :-) and before anyone asks where the original barrel is it is long gone. Sometime it is not how good you are but if you have cool guns to make you look good even when you are shooting bad.
  5. That is why I have 50 Herthco moon clips for my eight shot revolvers and they are all loaded and dropped tested in the cylinder before the match whether it is a local or a big match. As a matter of fact this weekend I just loaded 60 moon clips for the Revolver Nationals and low and behold 4 would not drop in. I had 4 rounds that were bulged enough to keep them from dropping in. Glad I found them now instead of at Nationals. Now all I have to do is shoot straight and fast.
  6. all moon clips depend on how thick they are made to what brass they fit
  7. Try www.sidearmor.com they make a nice kydex holster for a 625.
  8. 2 different moon clip holders work really well, North Mountain or James Austin server. Both work really well it comes down to if you want to go post to post or one spot to get your reloads. Both cost about the same. Check out James Austin Moonclip Server on you tube.
  9. 230gr Precision Delta FMJ or any 230gr lead bullet moly coated. Billy Bullets are good. Run Clays at 3.5 to 3.8 on the moly coated lead and 3.8 to 4 on the FMJ's. Both should make major easy and they burn clean. Get cylinder reamed and chamfered a kydex holster and you are ready to go.
  10. If you need brass get Starline and then get Herthco moon clips for Starline. Great set up.
  11. S&W 610 6.5 barrel, use 10mm for deer and use 40 S&W for plinking and steel. Best of both worlds and it is a revolver. Already cut for moon clips and plenty of mounts on th market
  12. Seen that happen more than once and one time saw someone throw a moonclip in their shooting bag and a round touched off
  13. The cartridge might not be contained, but it would still be lined up with the barrel. Doubt if the finger pressure head space trick would allow ignition though. Hmmm......might have to try it with a primed case...... OK, just tried it (wearing gloves, glasses, and shooting muffs) and was finally able pop a primer that way, after about 15 tries. It's not easy to get the center of the primer lined up with the hole. Yea you're more likely to drop a round and have it go off by hitting a rock!
  14. Not to rain on anybody's parade but I tried to have it in the Quad Cities but with the range being in Illinois and that state not being in the Midwest Region I was told no. Things have changed and now living between Mt Pleasant and Des Moines and working in Des Moines I do not have the time to run a match or for that fact even shoot one. It sucks to have to start all over again in life. I wish you the best on trying to get it back in the Midwest and if you do maybe I will be back on my feet at that time and will be able to come and throw bullets. I do have a reputation to live up to as I was the last overall winner of the last one held in Tonitown even if it was by the slightest of margins and if I recall .5 sec was the difference and yes I still have the hand made long bow made by Mike Luttrell and it is a beauty.
  15. Well then, would you cut away this hammer or find another hammer. The hammer installed looks Frankenstein-ish. The gun will probably live its entire life, eventually dieing on an ICORE field (or USPSA if things change). I don't know if it matters much about cutting this one up, or throwing another Pro hammer in there that I then cut that one up. Or maybe just call Apex and install one of there's. What are your thoughts? I don't know if a regular N-frame would work, or if a Randy hammer would work. Guess you could figure it out pretty quickly! Those were the very first centerfire S&W revolvers (other than maybe those weird Model 53s) to have the frame-mounted firing pin system, and the version they used on those early guns may not be the same as current production. If you're going to shoot the gun a bunch (and I would if it were mine), I'd go ahead and cut it down. But that's me. I put an apex hammer in my other 6.5 627 and it worked great.
  16. I put a 38 super barrel on it, cut the cylinder back to 38 short colt length and extended the forcing cone. Hence the only round that will shoot through this is a short colt. I would post a picture but I will not be home for 2 weeks.
  17. Cut it up and make what you want as I know for a fact that there is only 199 out of 200 left as I made one into a 38 short colt only.
  18. Hey Revo: I sure like the one with the silver cmore the best Robby yeah it is sweet but due to lost of employment last year it has become a safe queen, just like all my other ones. Oh well that is life.
  19. Confirmation today and if my luck holds I will be able to make it. Dean Gomez Mt Pleasant, IA B class but I should be D ;-)
  20. Here are pictures of all 3 mounts that I have talked about. From left to right is Pin Shooters mount middle is Allchin and the last is JP mount with a Burris Fast Fire. As you can see the JP mount with the Burris Fire is the lowest and the Pin Shooters mount is just a little lower than the Allchin. As you can see from the side pictures the JP is the lowest the second picture is with the Allchin and the last picture is with Pin Shooters. So if you want the lowest go with the JP and a Fast Fire or I would go with the BMT. The Allchin and Pin Shooters will not get as low as the BMT with a C-More. Hope this helps.
  21. Pin Shooter's mount is almost the same as Allchin
  22. You would need a slide ride Cmore and if you want lower you can go with a Burris Fast Fire and a JP mount. http://www.brownells.com/optics-mounting/scope-bases/handgun-bases/j-point-mount-prod7581.aspx. The lowest would be the BMT with a slide ride Cmore but the Fast fire with the JP mount would be very close if not the same. I don't have a picture for the Allchin but they show one mounted on their web site. I don't have my revolvers with me but I have both set ups and the Fast Fire is lower but it seems the Cmore dot is easier to pick up.
