  1. One more thing... As Shadow 2's become more available, there will probably be more original Shadows on the used market. It stands to reason that the more available, the lower the price will go... So, if you can wait, you may find that a Shadow isn't as far out of reach as you thought!
  2. Don't forget that IDPA will not allow some upgrades to be used, even in ESP. If you start with any pistol that has a firing pin block, and then remove that FPB, it is illegal in IDPA (and I think USPSA as well)! If you DON'T remove the block, the trigger will NEVER be as good as it would be without the block. If nothing else, the reset will be longer, because of the extra action required to lift the FPB. Also, watch out for weight. There has been some mention of the Shadow 2, but it is too heavy for IDPA! Same goes for the TS and the TSO... The Shadow Target II is listed at 41.1 oz. in CZ's specs, but I don't know if that includes the magazine or not. (I have my name on the list for a Target II, but who knows HOW long it may take to actually see one...) Please note that I am NOT saying that the OP couldn't just use a SP-01, and be very happy with it. However, don't be mislead by thinking you can build a low-budget Shadow by starting out with a regular SP-01. You may be able to improve it from out-of-the-box, but to get it to the same level of the Shadow is going to be expensive, and you will find obstacles along the way. I wish I had just bought the Shadow in the beginning, before I tried "upgrading" a lower cost model. I would be many $ ahead!
  3. Well, with the firing pin block, it is going to be very difficult to get the trigger of a Shadow... Not to mention that disabling the firing pin block will make that pistol illegal in a lot of categories. I recently went through the agonizing decision to bite my cheek, and just pay up to get what I what. I had learned that the hard way... I was trying to "upgrade" a pistol to the level of a Shadow, and it wasn't working out too well, plus costing a lot more than I expected when I started down that road. Once I added everything up, I realized that I was going to have over 1K in that pistol, and STILL not have a Shadow. So, I found a used Shadow, and bought it. Could not be happier with it! The smart thing to do, is to buy once, and cry once! (Bet you have heard that before...)
  4. I REALLY like the one that I bought recently: https://www.amazon.com/PowerTac-E5-Flashlight-Lumens-Uses-CR123A/dp/B008DXQW3A It is small enough to hold between two fingers easily, and bright enough you don't have to be "spot on" to see the target and sights.
  5. Don't buy ANY moving targets! All moving targets stink! (meaning, I have trouble hitting them...LOL!)
  6. By the time you pay for the work to make a SP-01 trigger as good as a Shadow, you could probably have just bought the Shadow...

    CZ 75 Pre B Safety

I have a CZ 75 Pre B, 1992 model. I think this is call a "transitional" model, because the front sight is removable, unlike the older ones. It runs flawlessly, and doesn't shoot too badly, considering the rough trigger. However, the safety on this pistol is very mushy, and isn't positive enough, no matter if the lever is in the on or the off position. I don't think anyone sells an aftermarket safety for a Pre B. It is quite different than the later models. CZ USA has new safety detents that are supposed to be compatible with a Pre B (Product Number: 0450047001), but I ordered a couple of them, and they aren't quite wide enough to fill the recess in the frame. The recess in the frame measures 0.1975", the original detent measures 0.196", and the new detent measures 0.174". Is there ANYTHING that I can do to make this safety more positive? I'm not sure what to try...
  9. How could one determine if they had the RTS2 V4, or an earlier one? Never mind... I found an older thread that said to remove the battery while it is turned on. I tried that, and my RTS2 came back on, so I must have the V4. Thanks anyway!
  10. Yep, IDPA. They REQUIRE you going to slide lock. And I do load 11 in the first mag while shooting the CZ. When I shoot my 1911, I use a Barney mag, and then swap for a full one so I have 11 rounds. Thanks!
  11. That's true, but CCI later changed their story and said that magnum pistol is NOT the same as small rifle primers. Additionally, the OP was saying he had purchased magnum RIFLE primers, and they certainly are not the same as magnum pistol primers...
  12. Cases are far more resilient than we normally think. Case in point is this range pick-up 9mm case that I found, which must have been fired in a 40 S&W chamber. (Wasn't mine - I promise!) OTOH, I would NOT want to reload this case! It has to be weakened beyond the point where it could be resized and reused...
  13. Thanks to whoever is responsible for restoring this valuable resource. It is much appreciated! And, of course, to Prof. Atlas for creating such a great resource in the 1st place!
  14. I haven't bought a new slide stop yet, and I am waiting to get a new one before I try to modify the one I have. That way, I know I can always go back to what I have now, if I mess up royally! LOL! Also, it seems that having a spare slide stop for a CZ is pretty smart, because they break! I do intend to work on this to get to 100% auto-close. Right now, I have to slam it pretty hard to get auto-close. The up and forward direction does make it easier to auto-close though. Thanks for all the valuable information! I have learned a lot!
  15. None of my 1911's ever did the "auto-close" thing. I would probably try a different slide stop if they did, or at least take a look to see if the slide stop was fully engaging the slide. If you can depend on the auto-close to work properly and always pick up and chamber a round, perhaps you can live with it. I don't think a 1911 will always pick up a round when this happens....
  16. I got a pair with the close-up lens in the top, but it made the target so blurry, I couldn't use them. I explained to the Dr. what I wanted, but it didn't work out. So, I returned them, and explained again what I wanted to focus on - the front sight, or a little further out. They remade the lenses for me, and the focus is good, but they are too "busy" for me. I get eyestrain trying to use them, so I just gave up on this idea. I just use my regular glasses now. The front sight isn't as clear as I like, but I accept that I am no longer 20. No longer 40, 50, or even 60, for that matter.... I guess I still do OK for 65. The best solution is to have good family genes for great eyesight! LOL!
  17. I have been told that it is... Here is a video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_3j9JAwmG8
  18. I know some people use CCI 400's instead of 500's, but 450's are magnum primers. I would want to back off the powder charge, at the very LEAST! Also, you want to be sure to FULLY seat your primers if you decide to use RP in pistols. Otherwise, the energy from the hammer can be used to finish seating the primer, and makes a misfire more likely. If you have lightened your hammer spring to improve the trigger pull, you are also more likely to have misfires using rifle primers.
  19. I know Accu Shadows are NOT legal in SSP. They are legal for ESP. Shadow 2's are too heavy, and I'm not sure about a regular Shadow. The IDPA rule for SSP, 8.2.1 A says, "Handguns permitted for use in SSP must have a minimum annual production of 2,000 units. Discontinued models must have had a total production of 20,000 units." That rule will make all but the most common models of CZ's illegal for SSP. Of course, there is NOT much difference in the competitiveness of SSP and ESP, so just shoot ESP! I do! (Only started shooting IDPA this year...) I imagine CZ could SELL more pistols, if only they were ACTUALLY AVAILABLE! It is tough just to find one of the more desirable models for sale around here! I looked a long time before I found a Shadow to actually handle! (I decided to wait for the one I wanted and didn't buy that one...) What part of Ohio are you in?
  20. Complete slides are available for the CZ, and I have a spare slide that was milled for a RTS2. https://czcustom.com/cz-parts-all/barrels-complete-upper.html It is very easy to swap slides to change to CO and back.
  21. A first version Shadow will work. I have a separate slide that was milled for a RTS2. To switch back and forth, one only has to push out the slide stop, and swap the slides out.
  22. The Accu Shadow is legal in ESP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_3j9JAwmG8

    97B"E" at 100 yards

Thanks for sharing! I'm very impressed! I've seen a lot of rifle shooters who couldn't do that well from a bench! LOL!
  25. Do you rent them out? I lost a CZ 75 safety detent, and searched and searched for it, for HOURS! Finally, I gave up, and ordered a replacement (plus another for a spare and a spare safety detent spring while I was at it). This happened just before a holiday, so I didn't get the replacements for about 10 days. While installing a new detent, I lost the detent spring! Looked for it for quite some time, but I had another spring (thankfully). (BTW, I was working on it inside a gallon ziplock bag when the spring launched into the Twilight Zone.) Finished installing the new detent and spring, and was putting stuff away and cleaning up. Looked down on the garage floor, and there was the original lost detent! Cars had been in and out of the garage every day since it was lost, but there it was, plain as day! Still expecting to find the lost spring some day... LOL!
