  1. In single stack minor with my STI Trojan I was shooting Atlanta Arms 147gr and had no issues. http://atlantaarms.com/products/9mm-147gr-select-tcj.html 9MM 147GR TCJ Bullet: 147GR TCJ Velocity: 900 FPS ± OAL: 1.145” Grade: Select AA Part # 9147T
  2. the pushing I have seen from shooters is on follow up shots when they use the rest to drive the gun down. To me, this is something that can be overcome with some live fire shooting.....
  3. Shane shoots an Agency glock if I remember- so it's a $3,000 gun. Does anyone at your club matches have a metal gripped gun you could handle/shoot a few rounds? I'd just buy a CK arms or Akai limited gun with plastic grip that is ready to go with no wait time and call it a day. I know atlas is supposed to have ready to ship guns coming as well but not sure if those only have metal grips and cost a fortune. The plastic vs metal debate is entirely about preference as others have said, and I think for some it's bragging rights because it makes you special since you spent more money. I spent the money and did a metal grip on my new open build, I didn't really need it, but I like the feel of the extra weight in the grip. With that said, I can still shoot just fine with plastic STI grips and my glocks.
  4. as al503 said, your barrel most likely doesn't want 147g. Do you know what the twist rate is on your barrel? (time to swap those 147s for 115s!)
  5. my nitrofin is pretty much used as a reference point when it comes down to it. I don't really exert force on the thumb rest.
  6. I had issues so I changed the guts to grams springs / followers and no longer had problems. The mbx guts were fine for 9mm but jammed up when fully loaded with 38super. Ive read some people bent the follower spring up and this fixed their issue but I've not tried it.
  7. I went with the race master pouches but I hear nothing but good things about the racer polymer ones as well. The magnet is a definite purchase to run on the belt. For limited I ran it as my front center alignment spot and made table pick ups lightning quick.
  8. beautiful blaster Kingman! To be honest, the "new style" they are building looks wise is horrendous with the slide cuts some of them have with the awkward compensator style. Your custom slide cuts match that compensator/long dustcover perfectly and it looks awesome. The real question, how does it balance for you with the added weight out front? I've moved all my weight to the grip area.
  9. Sorry it's the safariland 578 pro fit GLS http://www.opticsplanet.com/safariland-578-gls-pro-fit-holster.html this holster in the standard width long length fits all 1911/2011. (Wide width is for dogs and other wide framed guns) They come with a paddle and belt loop attachment. It comes with a trigger guard adapter piece to lock on to the narrow 1911/2011 trigger guard. And yes it fits long dust cover 2011s, I use it for 3 gun. Only thing I had to do was dremel back the lever mechanism at the very end of it where it made contact with the STI 2011 grip.
  10. Safariland GLS 578 I think is the number. Get the long model, the 5.4in barrel may hang out the bottom some but it has active retention of the trigger frame.
  11. I may do that. Still waiting for my gun to come back in the next 2-3 weeks so I can do live fire testing. The grams guts are from my 40mags, so I may give the TTI stuff a shot if the MBX stuff is wonky. They worked great with 9mm, no issues and stuffed them to the max. I'm fairly certain it is the case rim causing the issues as I noticed if I adjust how the top two rounds stack they will not come free of the mag as they lock into each other.
  12. I found the above information digging through some old mbx information. I will try this over the weekend and see happens with the MBX follower/spring.
  13. First, the mags are great with 9mm. But 38super is a whole new story for me. Round count is 1 less, which I'll accept for the case rim. However, the rim appears to catch on the very back end of the feed lip, where it curls up together. Almost like the mag is perfectly designed to hold a round there and not let it go. Lol. The follower has a sharp lip which snags the case rim, a file took care of this issue and I smoothed out the rest of the followers. When I load 18 in the 141mm I'll use the uplula to pack the rounds and then add 4 more and I can hear the follower roll and the rounds awkwardly turn nose down and lock in place. This happens around the 25 count in the 170mm. The only solution so far is using grams followers and springs. Same round count, no follower roll and it appears to situate the rounds so they don't lock in place at the mag lips. Is there a trick here for 38super tuning? Do I need a wider feed lip gap? And no I won't be running 9major, so throw that option in the trash.
  14. i've see quite a few frames like this. Thought it was a faulty problem the first time as well.
  15. Ah good point, I missed the 9mm part. If I did a 5.4 then I'd go bushing for it.
  16. My next limited build I'll do a 5.4 but really just because I like the look. I don't feel any difference between a 5 and 5.4. With that said, if I wanted to jump back to limited quickly, now seeing the selection of ready to go builds from Akai, I'd select one of the in stock options he has.
  17. Wow, weird you have a couple issues going on. On the mag bodies, when there are no springs do the base pads slide on and off no problem? Just to rule out the lower rail lips aren't bent or anything making it tight. They should slide on and off no problem. Verify as well the locking pin on the front is fully out of the way for removal. With the slide drag, does the tracer ink show what is contacting on the mag body? Is it the underside of the slide is hitting?
  18. the artwork is a sticker, you can remove it. That's all I know about them.
  19. On two of mine the spring locks in tight and does not want to pop loose when taking the basepad off. I ended up finding a thin flat blade screw driver does the trick with the basepad slid half way off to pull the spring free. More complicated than my dawson pads that is for sure. I have read of a few people beveling the inside lip to all the spring to pop easier. can you check body dimensions on your 6 mags and see where the pinch part would be. I know Adam in one of the atlas videos showed tapping the body with a nylon hammer to narrow the mag a bit.
  20. Ive seen other people file the corner of the mount down to help deflect any cases out of the way.
  21. I'd buy a 3rd mag pouch or run a magnet on the belt for these type stages.
  22. presentation practice in dryfire fixes the learning curve. Best way to do it.
  23. Very weird, pt evo grip here and it drops mbx and sti mags without any issues. Also have a dawson posi mag release installed which I did not make any adjustments to.
