  1. 3.9 gr. VV N-310 - 185 gr. Star LSWCHP - WLP = ca. 790 fps for bullseye level accuracy out to 50 yards.
  2. In the 45 ACP I prefer the fater burning powders such as Bullseye, American Select, WST, VV N-310, even W-231. They burn cleaner at the lower pressures of the 45 ACP and appear to cycle the semi auto's more reliably.
  3. I ammout of town for the next month. You can find the data on the Hodgdon website for WST and other Winchester powders.
  4. Bob McGee, For many years I shot the 185 gr. Star LSWCHP with 3.8 gr. HS-700X and Rem 2 1/2 primer at ca 710 fps. Remarkably accurate out to 25 yards (never tried it at 50 yards) and about as soft shooting as you can get with a 45 ACP. You may have to change to a lighter recoil spring in your 1911.
  5. Ranch Products is a small family run operation. I believe they live in Michigan but have their operations in Ohio therefore two phone numbers. They are a first class operation and a pleasure to deal with. Instead of spending 4 on an expensive website they furnish a great product at a very reasonable price. Tony
  6. You will enjoy using the 10 shot speedloaders. They work well considering the limitations of the 22 LR case. It sure beats loading the chambers one round at a time. I am planning to order some 6 shot versions to use with my old K-22 - it might require the never version of the thumlatch to function properly.
  7. I enjoy shoting the S&W 646 with blued steel moonclips from Ranch Products, ca. $75 per 100. The only minus with 40 S&W in a wheelgun is the the limited availability of true round nose bullets. The only one I have found is the Berry's 155 gr. HBRN.
  8. I use the Xtreme speed holster (Frank Garcia, Universal Shooting Academy), it fits all the S&Wevolvers regardless of barrel length. For moonclips the best and least expensive are the blued stell moonclips from Rancg Products, ca. $75 per 100. The Ranch Products website only provides a phone number which you must call to order. They are great people to deal with.
  9. In my expereince Unique is a bit too slow burning for a 45 ACP. I prefer such powders as VV N-310, WST, American Select, Bullseye or Clays. A slightly slower powder like W-231 is also preferrred by many shooters. For the 185 gr. LSWC if ind that 3.8 gr. VV N-310 withe Winchester WLP primner to provide ca. 790 fps with outstanding accuracy out to 50 yards.
  10. Don't forget good old Bullseye. It works well in 9mm with either lead, plated or jacketd bullets. It may not be as clean as VV N-320 but it meters very well and provides excellent accuracy.
  11. I have used the Rainer 130 gr. 0.356" bullet in 38 Special cases. Accuracy appear to be on a par with the Rainier 125 gr. 0.357" bullet. In order to get a tight fit I use the 9mm expaning die on my Dillon 550.
  12. I suspect you have not seated the primers fully. In almost five decades of reloading I habe neber had a Wnchester primer not fire. The CZ-75 i shoot is etremely reliable and has never had a problem setting off either factory ammo or reloads.
  13. I have used WST with excellent results with both cast and plated bullets in my PO16-40. For the lighter loads I had to get a lighter recoil spring.
  14. With the 185 gr. Berry's HBRN out of my Sig 220 Sport 4.5 gr. WST gave 745 fps and 5.0 gr. gave 843 fps. Using the same bullet 4.6 gr. American Select gave 730 fps and 4.9 gr. American select gave 779 fps. The American Select loads provided lower velocity variation than the WST loads. Both were accurate and great for stell plate shoots.
  15. I have used 3.8 gr. of VV N-310 with the 185 gr. Star LSWCHP bullet for bullseye pistol matches - extremely accurate out to 50 yards at ca 790 fps. I have also used 3.5 to 3.7 gr. N-310 with 230 gr. Rainier bullets for action pistol - very accuarte and mild load.
  16. I shot up several pounds of W-540 and W-571 left over from shotshell reloading in 9mm and 40 S&W (minor). I used the data in the W-W 14th Edition reloading manual. Both powders metered very well in my Dillon 550 and provided very accurate handloads. On the downside, both powders burn less cleanly than what i normally use.
  17. I had several pounds of both W-540 and W-571 from shotshell reloading. I used it up in 9mm and 40 S&W (minor) loads using the data in the W-W 14th Edition reloading manual. Both powders meter very well in the Dillon 550 and provided very accurate handloads. On the down side both are smokier that powders I normally use in these calibers.
  18. The best place for AMERC brass is your local scrap dealer - at $1+ per lb. you wil be reimbursed for bending over to pick it up.
  19. I used 3.4 to 3.6 gr. WST behind 155 and 180 gr. cast lead bullets. They shot well in both my S&W~646 revolver and PO16-40. The PO16-40 requireda lighter recouil spring. These loads knocked down stell plates and were mild on recoil.
  20. I assume you are loading lead bullets. Both Bullseye and HS-700X work well with lead bullets in 38 Special and 44 Special. They are a bit smokey when compared to American Select. Another great powder for lead bullets is Trail Boss - very slightly sooty but low perceived recoil and virtually no possibility of a double charge.
  21. My Pardini GT-45, S&W 945 and PO14-45 appear to digest annything from 185 gr. LSWC up to 230 gr. RN. There is no doubt that the 230 gr. RN bullet is the smoothest feeding 45 bullet.
  22. I purchased the DR-10 speedloaders and they work perfectly on my S&W 617. For the older S&W K-22 I belive I will have to purchase the newer style thumblatch to insure ther thumblatch does not interfere with the reloader. The older style thumblatches were almost oval while the newer style is smaller on the lower end. The DR-10 is a grreat product! I hhope the 6 shot version works as well in my older K-22's.
  23. The W-W 14th Edition reloading manual lists 5.4 gr.W-231 as a maximum load with 246 gr. lead bullet for 795 fps and 12500cup. I have found that either American Select or Trail Boss burn much cleaner than W-231.

    WST

I have enjoyed using WST with light loads in 40 S&W behind lead bullets. Shot well in my PO 16-40 and S&W 646.
  25. I don't know about the Wilson unit but my Marvel fits all of my 45 ACP guns (SA, Colt, PO14-45, etc) - it will not fit on my 9mm or 40 S&W types (PO16-40, PO18-9 and SA 1911 in 9mm). I believe it is duie to the height of the ejector on the 9,, and 40's.
