  1. Many shooters have had excellent expereince with the S&W 1911. I purchased a lightly used SPringfield 1911 trophy Match and was surprised by the accuracy level. Unfortunately to have to swap out the sear, kammer and disconnector to get a good trigger pull as the factory trigger is ca 6 lbs. There are also the Les Baer products which have excellent accuracy.
  2. With the relatively low presssure calibers such as 38 Specail and 45 ACP, I use the brass until the mouth frays. With the higher pressure numbers, 9mm and 40 S&W, I discard the brass after 4 reloads.
  3. I have used 3.6 gr. WST with 180gr. lead bullets for a nice mild load which shoots very accurately in my PO16-40 and S&W 646. I believe that another fast burning powder like Bullseye would be a much better choice than either Universal or particularly Power Pistol.
  4. I have used RCBS, Dilon, Lee, Hornady and Lyman dies in my Dillon 550. In all cases I purchase an additional die so that the seating and crimping are separate operations. You always increase the possibility of problems trting to seat and crimp in one operation
  5. Discard any AMERC headstamped brass - it's awfully soft. In my experience S&B brass also has tight primer pockets and requires carewful attention when seating the new primer. Nickel cases are not a problem. I discard all my 9mm and 40 S&W cases after 4 relaods. with 45 ACP and 38 Special i relaod until the case mouth frays. i cannot comment on reloading for Glkock since the only Glock I own is in 45 ACP.
  6. I only load 40 S&W brass for use in both my S&W610 and 646. I use very light loads with ca. 3.6-3.9 gr. WST behind 155-180 gr. lead, plated or jacketed bullets. The velociteies are in the 800 fps range and are veryy accurate.
  7. I purchased a large supply of the 130 gr Star FMJRN before they went out of business. Have not looked at other suppliers.
  8. I prefer the faster, cleaner burning, pwders such as American Select, WST, or Clays in 45 ACP. If you cannot find suitable data on either the Hodgdon or Alliant websites drop me a line when I return home after March 27th and I'll dig up my info. quote name='nhglyn' date='Nov 27 2004, 05:03 PM' post='217859'] I now hear that 7625 will not yield high fps and that there are better powders for 45 acp. Any help here?
  9. When I used to shoot lead bullets in my 9mm's I did not expereince leading using 147 gr. bullets at less than 900 fps. If memory serves me correct the WW data indicates a maximum load of 3.5 gr. W-231 with the 147 gr. lead bullet. Drop me an e-mail and I'll look up the WW data when I return homer on Match 27th.
  10. I have a separate toolhead for each caliber I load. The convenience is worth the added cost.
  11. Eric, Ranch products moonclips are $75 per 100 and work well in my gun. I also use the same moonclips in my 686 in 38 Super. Always with Federal primers. So far I have used the standard length firing pin. Forgot to mention I use Winchester brass in 40 S&W ans Remington brass in 38 Super.
  12. Don't know about the Ranch Product 610 moonclips however their 646 moonclips work in both my 646 and my 686 in 38 Super. I use Winchester brass on 40 S&W and Remington brass in 38 Super. Um.....you sure about that Supers are really loose in my 610 clips (don't ask , it was ugly)
  13. I had a Mauser in cal 8x68S manufactured in 1935. The ammo was all pre WWII RWS which used their RWS#1698 Berdan primer. I purchased the primers in the mid 1950's. As of two years ago, when I sold the gun, both the pre WWII ammo and the 1950's primers were going bang as usual.
  14. In th SW Michigan area there is a plentiful supply of Remington and Winchester but no Federal. Must be a lot of revolver shooting going on somewhere!
  15. I'm on the road for the next few weeks so do not have access to my reloading manuals. Check the Hodgdon powder website for IMR powders. They should have data for SR-7625. I belive you would be much better off using a powder like W-231 or Titegroup for 38 Super revolver loads. I have used 4.5 to 5.0 gr. W-231 behind either 130 gr. Rainier or 124.135 gr. Star FMJ bullets for velocities in the 900 - 1000 fps. The 4.5 gr. W-231 load is particularly pleasant to shoot.
  16. I purchased a 45 ACP 1911 barrel from Jarvis several years ago. It came in less than 3 weeks. He must be a lot busier now. I really like his barel and have never experienced any leading. Hope your barrel turns out as well.
  17. I purchase the moonclips from Ranch Products for ca $75 per 100. The same moonclip works for either the 646b or the 686 in 38 Super. I have used either the Blade Tec moonclip holders or the (name unknown) versions sold by Dillon. Moonclips.com has them on their website.
  18. I use 3.4 gr. Titegroup or 4.1 gr. WSF behind the 147 gr. Star FMJ for a bit over 900fps. Light recoil and takes down pins or plates with ease (assuming I do my part).
  19. The W-W 14th Edition reloading Manual does not list any 9mm data for WST. That manual lists 9mm data for the following winchester powders - W-231, %-540. W-571, WSL, WSF & WAP. I believe that WST is a bit too fast for the 9mm.
  20. The PC 646 has a slab sided barrel while the normal version has a normal round barrel (both are lugged). As much as I love to shoot my 646 and 610, if you are looking for really speedy reloads then go with the 625 in 45 ACP. With 230 gr. RN bullets and those large chambers gravity really help you get the rounds into the hole.
  21. I believe that Metalform now makes a 10 round 9mm or 38 Super magazine. I have n=]been using either 9mm or 38 Super Metalform magazines in my SA1911 without any problems.
  22. I used the 4.3 gr. Titegroup loads with 158 gr. plated bullets. Recently I switched to 4.1 gr. Trail Boss.
  23. I use the 151 gr Rainier and 158 gr. Rainier or Berry's in my 38 Special revolvers.
  24. The S&W 646 is a 6 shot 40 S&W with a titanium cylinder and stainlkess frame. Come is either a PC or standard version. Excellent shooters.
  25. I shoot the 686 PC in 38 Super. Nuts to the IDPA rule change, I use it in our local IDPA and IPSC matches as well as for steel plate shoots. A wonderful gun.
