  1. Stay away from any AMERC headstamped brass. Very soft and bulges upon reloading.

    Moonclips

Try Ran ch Products they manufacture moonclips for just about any revolver. Go to their websire and then place the order by phone. I have used thier moonclips in 38/357, 38 Super, 40 S&W and 45 ACP - excellent product at a reasonable price.
  3. You have to call Ranch Products to place an order. Great place to do business with. I have used their moonclips in 40 S&W, 38 Super, 38.357 and 45 ACP. Best value for the dollar.
  4. Using the 185 ge. Star LSWCHP 3.8 gr. HS-700X gives ca 720 fps and 3.8 gr. VV N-310 gives ca. 790 fps. Both are extremely accurate loads and the HS-700X load is very recoil freindly.
  5. Power Pistol produces some very accurate loads but I prefer the faster burning powders such as WSF and even the old reliable, Bullseye.
  6. I have used American Select for light loads in 40 S&W, 38 Special, 357 Mag and 45 ACP as well as 12 ga. shotgun. Clean burning and meters well in my Dillon 550. For 9mm I prefer to use WSF or Bullseye.
  7. I used 3.6 gr. Clays behind the 200 gr. Speer LCWC or 3.8 gr. of VV N-310 with the 185 gr. Star LSWCHP. Both gace bullseye level accuracy.
  8. I have enjoyed using Clays in 45 ACP but I believe it's a bit too fast for 9mm.
  9. Thanks all for your comments. I'm going to take the plunge and purchase one. The few shots with mild minor loads felt comfortable and the accuracy at 25 yards was excellent. I'll give it a good college try. If it does not work out I'll put a for sale sign on it. I'll keep you posted on my evaluation during the next month.
  10. I use American Select for 12 ga. shotgun as well as mild loads in 38 Special, 357 magnum, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. I always place greater faith in the powder manufacturers data than other handbooks.
  11. Bubber, You are describing the gun to which I referred. How was the recoil on the 327 compared to the normal 627? I like the idea but am concerned that the recoil may be excessive in such a light revolver. I believe than an ideal configuration would be a revolver with stainless frame, titanium cylinder and titanium shroud over the stainless barrel.
  12. A fellow shooter has a S&W 327 PC with both the Jerry Miculek wood and Houge rubber grips. The gun is alloy frame with titanium cylinder and titanium shroud over a stainless steel barrel. In actual weight it's lighter than a 4 inch barreled K-frame target revolver. I have not been able to find the gun on S&W's website. Was this a limited production gun? Has anyone had any experience shooting such a light gun in competition?
  13. In 9mm I switched to Bullseye and WSF. In 40 S&W I switched to WSR, WSF and American Select. In 45 aCP I switched to American Selct and WST.
  14. I use WST for mild loads with lead bullets in 40 S&W and 45 ACP and WSF with jacketed bullets in 9mm and 40 S&W.
  15. Foir 200 gr. LSWC at about 720 fpos I used 3.6 gr of Clays. For the 185 gr. LSWC 3.8 gr. HS-700X gives ca 720 fps and 3.8 gr. VV N-310 gives ca 790 fps. All three loads were superbly acurate for bullseye psitol shooting. The 720 fps loads were also very easy on the shooter.
  16. The only 12 ga. I load is with 7/8 oz. of shot. For 1 oz. loads in 12 ga nad 7/9 oz loads in 20 ga. you have to calculate your time in cents per hour to compete with inexpensive loaded ammo. I do reload 28 ga. and 410 bore where the diffrence between ammo prices and my reloads is more significant.
  17. I assume you are referring to 45 ACP moonclips for a S&W 25/625 type of gun. I find the half moon clips to be a pain and only use the full moon clips. I use the Demooner for removing spent cratridges and only thumb pressure to insert the cartridges into the moonclips. Some people prefer the Remooner to load all six cartridges at once. Both can be purchased from Dillon or www.moonclips.com.
  18. I have found either American Select or WST do provide nice clean burning loads.
  19. WST and American Selct are good low smoking powders as is VV N-310 in the 45 ACP.
  20. With 147 gr. plated or jacketed bullets I use either N-330 or Bullseye.
  21. VV N-310 provides excellent loads in the 38 Special and is very clean burning. I also use American Select which is a clean burning powder.
  22. I have used 3.8 gr. HS-700X and Rem 2.5 behind the 185 gr. Star LSWCHP. Outstanding accuracy and mild recoil (ca, 720 fps ).
  23. mccoy, You may want to give Trail Boss a try. I have found it to be an excellent powder for use with lead bullets. It's so bulky that it's virtually impossible to produce a double charged cartridge. It also provides a very soft perceived recoil. The SWC's have a tendency to hang up on the chambemouth during reloads. A rouind nose bullet would be best for fast trouble free reloads with moonclips.
  24. I purchased a S&W Model 27 which someone had previously converted to a round but. At $300 it's a great shooter and I prefer the slightly smaller grip.
