Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Anybody reloading for their .45 ACP's? How do you like? What OAL do you use and a recommended range load would be appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Cutting the plate is mentioned in the thread as well. IMHO that is rather evasive surgery. I had a pal do that for me (he had success) but in my case, it created new problems - cases falling out of the shell holders before they got to the final stage. Before you take a knife to your shellplate, I seriously recommend you polish or try bending the wire as explained above. As I said, just polishing the s hell plate shell holders and the wire cured the problem for me.
  3. I think what you stated is good info and it (bending the wire) was discussed in the lilnk. In my case, it didn't work (not all the time anyway) and I discussed with the good folks at Hornady. They sent me more wires and after more bending and twisting the results were again spotty. And then there was the issue of having to install and uninstall the wire when changing calibers (because the tweaked wire may not work with other calibers) vs. just changing the shell plate. Polishing is really very easy to do but if bending works for you, that's fine. Definitely yes to alternatives. Thanks.
  4. Sorry but I disagree. Bending the wire is very much of a hit or miss proposition having done in many times every which way - improvement was inconsistent. And if repeated too often can over stress the wire (no big deal though just ask Hornady to send you another). Polishing it seems takes care of the problem once and for all, no altering of parts, no bending, no slicing, no diceing.
  5. http://sigforum.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/840.../2471018111/p/2 If your 9mm loads are getting snagged on the eject wire (a common problem with the LNL and 9mm), a simple fix is to polish the eject wire AND most importantly, the shell plate shell holders. I did and have never had a problem since.
  6. It's worth a try. I would also add some lube to the rails. Glocks don't require much oil, but the do require some. I upped the MV to about 800 FPS (but switched to 6.6 grains of Power Pistol instead of using Blue Dot), same dies, same crimp and the problem went away. But I have a couple hundred rounds of those light Blue Dot loads left and would like to shoot them instead of dumping them. I do use Slide Glide LITE on the rails.
  7. I've reloaded quite a few .45 ACP rounds with the 230 FMJ Rainier bullet and 8.3 grains of Blue Dot thinking that this would be nice comfortable range load for my G30. Problem is, they are too light to relibably return the slide to full battery causing failures to fire. MV for this load according to my Lyman book is less than 700 FPS. Rather than dump them (and where do you safely dump your reload rejects by the way?), I thought I would use my Wolff non-captured recoil spring assembly (for the G30) with a Wolff reduced power 15# spring vs. the Woff factory rated 17# spring. Do you think this will solve the probelm? Thanks.
  8. All of a sudden I have developed what is best as "shooters elbow" similar to tennis elbow I suspect. 'Pain that radiates from my wrist to my elbow when I tightly grip my gun - the result of extensive range firing. Any cures that work for this other than lay off shooting for a while and Motrin? Thanks.
  9. Need to keep the .357 Sig discussion fresh and alive. I just started reloading this caliber and though it was a bit of a challenge at first, things are starting to gel. Biggest problem I have had so far and it's already been mentioned. are those Speer flash holes. I have had the decapping pin in my Redding sizer actually disengage and get stuck in the hole. What a PITA! That and a lousy set of Lee dies that I started out with - the sizer in particular - it didn't re-size the brass tight enough. Once I switched to the Redding, that problem went away. Looking for loading data using Win 231 and the 124 gr. Rainier or Berry bullet. Thanks.
  10. Got this one when it was first introduced back in the '80s and for some reason I still feel more comfortable using although it's slower than my Dillon or anything else. I guess old habits are hard to break.
  11. I hear they are a bit thinner than the Wilson Shok Buffs and therefore a better bet in the 1911 Commander. A Google search drew a blank. Thanks.
  12. No, I am on the East Coast but if he's willing to pay for my plane ticket....
  13. Joe, I just ordererd. Not cheap considering they are not Tritium but I think they majy just do the trick. I did order the larger diameter .125. I also ordered the rear sight to go with it. What the heck. Thanks again. I value your judgement.
  14. Joe, if you are the same JoeD form GT, it's nice to see you here. I will check out the HiViz. Do you recommend the larger diameter overmolded HiViz tactical front sight? http://www.hivizsights.com/Glock-C11.aspx Should we tell these guys about the new LW 3.5# connector?
