  1. I resolved all my mental problems with Lanny Bassham book With Winning in Mind and consuming about half-a-year worth or Steve Anderson podcast. Steve talks over and over about same typical shooter's issues, which includes expectations, rushing, trying. After about 1 month - which is like 10 hours of listening - it starts to repeat itself, but I just keep listening to reinforce my attitude. It's also funny if you like the style, and I like it. When it's my turn to shoot, I know what to do, what is my sequence. I know who I'm and what I can do. I know, nothing could I invent on the line will help with the score - contrary, conflicting directives (trying) will introduce de-automatization into my skills and thus errors. The heartbeat stays the same, the world behind my back doesn't exist. I know I can win an SHO stage from a world-class Open GM (and I do) and destroy anyone on a WHO. It doesn't change my attitude or introduce any expectation into the process. If I train wreck it (and I do) - that's fine too. There is no struggle anymore. Everything - dry fire, live fire, and matches became total enjoyment.
  2. @damngato what is the gun with red dot?
  3. Here are the images.
  4. For your reference, almost single stack on top - then the mag works and there is no gap.
  5. Quoting Beven Grams: Use 2011 mag for a reference of proper double to single stack transition. It is advisable to have chain pliers to help restore proper feed lips dimensions. Feed lips front will expand during reshape, but if you overdo hammering them back to spec the pliers become very handy. Also,
  6. I'd try to shoot max OAL possible for that gun too see what happens.
  7. I bought it used so can't tell for sure. I think it's heavier than of MatchMaster's default. It won't cycle minor reliably. I believe it is the comp that reduces speed of the slide and barrel and I don't think SteelMaster comp is any worse than of Infinity, which is also relatively short. Looks good on gas leak test with SP2 and 3N38. STI website do not currently list light 4" recoil system, only medium and heavy. Nor they also list 4" barrel with T2/TX2 anymore. Go figure. The steel grip is a deal breaker. The balance is excellent and the gun is still light.
  8. 9 Major is fine in both SteelMaster and MatchMaster. I run SteelMaster with a steel grip though.
  9. I have an STI MatchMaster with M4 threads put over original holes (by previous owner for Quinn mount extravaganza, I suppose). I use Cheely Custom offset RTS2 mount with enlarged holes instead. It is a backup gun with relatively low round count, but so far there were no problems with this setup. A typical M4 screw head is larger than the mount chamfer so it looks a little bit steampunk. Since the picture was taken the screws were sandblasted to match the frame so the looks are ok now.
  10. Could you please add a strong hand shooting slow-motion of your natural grip strength - with Limited and Open guns?
  11. Today I set 3 IPSC targets at 2m in triangle config - probably something similar to @Jake Di Vita match experience but without penalties, and managed them in 1.77s with a 0.84s draw, all A, for a HF of 16.95. I think my close index blasting department is ok. ?
  12. Human saliva. When alcohol cannot make it, I give it a good spit.
  13. I saved the parts but its not for sale. 2-3 years with some dry fire. I was quite surprised, expected more service time. Though, the full auto version was on a CZ Shadow, and it was unreliable. 3-10 rounds then it will hung up with hammer down, IIRC. Only managed to get hammer follow out of a Stock III, no full auto.
  14. I shoot major out of SteelMaster and MatchMaster. Both are 4 inch guns. My primary is SteelMaster with steel grip.
  15. I started with .30 into the blank wall, couldn't go any faster. And I was good at Doom, Tournament, and Quake a while back. Then it became .25, then .20, now to .17. Gun matters - a little. It is very unlikely for the mashing skill to directly transfer to action pistol trigger skill which is a highly coordinated action with a lot of variety. Definitely, to build a specialized skill with high precision requirements it must be exercised as is. Imitations won't transfer. A great piano player will be terrible shooter on day 1. YMMV The drill of not riding the reset is to exaggerate return movement - allowing finger to go outside or hit trigger guard. It is just a drill, then you shoot as you like. That helped me a lot.
  16. The (precise) movement of body and it parts is a constant loop of visual and kinesthetic sensory feedback and corrections. Even though the whole is more than the sum of the parts, putting an emphasis on solely kinesthetic feedback, I think - as a dedicated element of the training - make a demand for the brain to improve here qualitatively. IIRC, kinesiology studies concludes that kinesthetic based corrections are around 140ms and visual based are 260-320ms. While the studies I've read (1) did not examine action shooters and their challenges specifically; and (2) there is probably a difference between sensory-based correction and I recollect I saw the dot (or not) - the kinesthetics kicks-in first. Also, neurobiology documents cases where people are conciously blind but still can precisely point to flashlight put in front of them - there are multiple pathways and layers of visual information processing. Appreciate the comments and diversity of views. @Alaskan454 I trained to shoot Smoke and Hope by feel, it's hard to miss those huge plates. ?
  17. An increased distance from the grip will act as lever amplifying any lateral forces put into racking motion. Putting hand near the muzzle in a hurry is a good recipe for disaster. Larger distance means more time. Draw from holster would be awkward, even from a race one. Shooting into tight ports or around hardcover will catch the racker and damage it. Ask me how I know. Once the thumb get a taste of racker it is an unforgivable non-repeatable experience. A table start performed by a competent Open shooter worth a thousand words. You may want to try it and report back though.
  18. I went from (probably) zero to 46 in 3-4 years shooting without mask and then to 52 in one year shooting indoors and breathing through 3M mask with 6055 Gas and Vapour Cartridge, prefixed with Particulate Filter. Weak ventilation, metal bullet trap, shooting plate racks - a lot of microparticle lead dust. My reloading procedures are strict. No eating or drinking during or after the shooting, with some exceptions for big outdoor matches. Quit shooting indoors last week.
  19. Looking onto lead in compensator and lead deposit underneath scope mount near ejection port I'm pretty sure there is vaporized lead in those fumes.
  20. Just the sear. Worn out sear or/and weak sear spring leads to hammer follow / full auto in my experience.
  21. Because swiping, shoulder, increased distance from the grip. Ugly.
  22. Broke extractor at around 20k on a Stock II. I shoot till parts breaks.
  23. At 60k I would be looking into replacing the sear, as a precaution.
