  1. I noticed that with the new forum software I can see people's personal profile info when I am not logged onto BE, i verified this with a few computers, including one I have never used before. I liked knowing only BE members (who were logged in) could see my personal info. Not sure I like that complete strangers just surfing the web could stumble on that info.
  2. Powders I have first hand experience with that have low charge weights and work in 9mm: Clay dot - very similar to clays but seems slightly less spikey. Very clean with decent accuracy. American Select - very good powder that is easy to load, accurate, and clean. Nobel Vectan GM3 - another very good powder that behaves well, is accurate and clean. It is single based and cheap. All of these work well for gamer minor loads using bullets in the 115 - 147gr range with no drama. Other powders would be e3, red dot, 700x, n310/n320,etc.
  3. Maybe it was a presentation or commemorative gun for retirement or service?
  4. Two thumbs up from me. Very happy with the ones I have. Plus, Glenn is a great guy to deal with. As stated, go directly to the source!!!
  5. Personally, I'd hold Mothra hostage for a jug of American Select.
  6. ^^^ Yeah, I've done that and end up with extra shiny brass. If you get a decent dial type they are good for 15 amps, using a three prong grounded one is important to help avoid shock. Most of the typical lyman, frankford, thumblers type vibratory tumbler motors are only drawing 1-3 amps. . I can see ow the count down timer would be nice especially if there is the possibility of forgetting about the brass.
  7. I have one similar to this mechanical timer with two grounded outlets like this one from Home Depot. I'll often run two lyman 2500 tumblers and it seems to have no issues. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Defiant-Plug-In-Dual-Outlet-Heavy-Duty-Timer-15075/100685854
  8. I was loading ww231 and left it in the hopper overnight....well, I was called away and didn't get back to the reloading bench until several months later. The hopper was horribly stained to the point where it was opaque...couldn't even tell there was powder in it. After taking the plastic hopper off I cleaned most of the stain off with Simple Green and a soft cloth. Now it has a yellow tint, but is transparent. Otherwise, I have never cleaned one with cleaner. Not just for this reason but after every loading session I now empty the hopper and occasionally wipe the inside with a dryer fabric softener towel to keep the static cling down (almost zero in Florida, anyway).
  9. I'd agree with sarge, seems that if you are missing the ENTIRE target at 15 yards 40% of the time that somethings else is in play. I've had loads that consistently tumbled the bullet and still could get mostly A zone with the rest being C zone hits on an USPSA target at 25yards...just left holes the shape of the bullet profile. But, yeah some barrels are picky and their tastes can change with age. i have a PM-9 9mm single stack that won't shoot Competition Specialties cast 135gr SWCs and will tumble them dang near every time, but another 9mm single stack with a Schuemann Classic 9mm barrel with the exact same load can shoot a paster out at 20 yards. With other bullets the PM=9 is very accurate, just not with those old 135gr SWC bullets. I've used Autocomp, HS-6, CFE pistol and Silhouette and have good results with them accuracy wise, but for 38 super find them to be a little blasty...but they work. I'd second the AA#7 recommendation. It's a favorite of mine and is among the most accurate powders I've used for 38 super major in every 38 super gun I've owned, also it loads well in a progressive press. I don't know what 38 super TCJ bullets are, but montana golds, zeros, precision deltas, and the RMR manufactured jacketed bullets in 115 and 124 seem to all be accurate jacketed bullets. If you are using a plated bullet....well, I have had better luck with SNS and Bayou coated than any of the plated I've tried. Good Luck!!!
  10. Keychain fobs? Bottle openers? Something cool could be made from them, I'm sure!
  11. Ty- have you had any issues with bullet pull out by not dialing in any crimp on the FCD? (Doesn't sound like it) I tried just removing the bell on my short colts in a 627 and had several bullets pull out. Found i had to dial in about 1/2 turn of crimp to stop that.
  12. I use the 160 gr Bayous in 38 short colts- great bullet for my 627. I use clay dot at 2.9 gr, 1.195"ish oal
  13. http://forums.brianenos.com/index.php?showtopic=226674#entry2526704. Check out post number 6. Its a good shooter and a lot of fun.
  14. For the CCI i use the small pistol primer only as it seems the SRP cup is really hard, that is anecdotal though and I don't know if that is actually a fact. For Winchester, I'll use either SPP or SRP. I typically use Win SRP, but at the 170-ish power factor zone where I usually run my loads I don't see any real difference between them.
  15. Thanks for the link, I love the blues and will check it out, Where I live is a radio wasteland, I mean seriously bad DJs and playlists....Good radio stations is one of the things I miss about California (Northern California in my case). The other is the sourdough bread.
  16. What an awesome old revolver that I always admired but know I will never own, so I totally enjoyed the vid and lived vicariously for a few minutes, it was thoroughly entertaining! Thanks and best wishes to your family.
  17. I'd love to get a 10 shot 617 4" gun for steel challenge and general goofing around. I've handled (but not shot) both the 6" and 4" and to me the 4" feels much better in the hand and I think it would make a better steel challenge gun.
  18. I used a tube of Ultrabite tooth paste and a 7" buffer, that worked ok...and my lights had a nice minty smell for a few days. But, I need to do it again and think I'll try the HF kit. Thanks for the tip.
  19. The only place that I see Alliant powders at a decent price is Wideners. I got some Clay Dot and American Select from them several months ago and they seem to always have some of the harder to find Alliant powders in stock. I don't know about 2400 or Unique, though, as those aren't Alliant powders I look for but it would be worth getting on Wideners specials email list that goes out weekly if you are looking for those.
  20. Hopefully your fortune was contagious!! I've been buying .22LR as I can, but none at that price...good on you! I think our local Wally world should put a memorial plaque on the shelf where the .22LR used to be as it has been gone for years.
  21. For the Alliant fans out there - Wideners is having a sale on a bunch of powders including e3, Promo, Red Dot, and BE-86. (BTW - for those missing Solo1000 you might want to try Alliant American Select...which of course isn't on sale. I was a Solo fan, but after trying American Select I wouldn't go back to S1K even if it becomes available again. YMMV) Also, some of their Hodgdon powders are on sale.
  22. Yep, Beven is the man. My tanfo was a little short for the loads I wanted to run. He did my tanfo 9mm barrel for a great price and had it back in less than a week.
  23. Production (or Single Stack or 9mm limited) minor loads and open major loads are indeed very different animals. Use the experience here on BE. Lots of good loads for 38 super if you search a little. Basically, slower power and 115 or 124 grain bullets. Autocomp/CFEpistol are pretty much the same in my limited experience with these powders and are the fastest powders I'd use to make major in 38 super. They work fine and make major safely, but are not my favorites - but that is me. Slower powders like the 3N38/N350/N105 VV powders, AA7, SR4756, etc. are IMO much better and make better use of the extra case volume of the super in an open gun. If you have a specific powder you want to use you could post it and I'm sure folks would chime in with their experiences with that powder.
  24. I'm pretty sure MBX is currently based in California, so it would make sense that they would make a good 10 round mag for the SVI/STI platform due to current events there. Personally, i have had good luck and good experiences in dealing with MBX and their products and would buy again from them. I think that post number 6 by ChuckS has the right answer.
