  1. For me, the ideal quiver is two 170s and four 140s. That will take care of any classifier and gives an extra 170 in case one goes sour. Having said that I have shot an entire match using only one 170mm mag. So,as a minimum I'd say three mags with at least one being a 170mm.
  2. Happy to see the Caspian mags being sold on the MBX website now. A few are heading my way and am looking forward to trying them out!
  3. If you intend to do it by hand the clymer 12" t-handle part number tht12 would work and it looks to be in stock now. If you intend to use a lath or square drive then that extension is out of stock.
  4. I use VibraTite VC-3 on mine and have never had it come loose. Yet, it disassembles easily
  5. Brownells has Clymer's (or you can call them direct) and those are +.002 over. Mansons (order direct from them by calling) are a little cheaper and are +.001. Manson also sells a 1/4" reamer extension T-handle for 16 bucks, or you can go to Ebay and there is a guy there selling some nice looking ones for nice price. Brownell's also sells Clymer extensions, if you go this way be sure to order the one for a 1/4" round shanked throater and not a chamber reamer. I reamed mine (Kaw Valley) this weekend. Definitely mo better. I've been schooled a lot in the blow back guns this past month!
  6. Rick McDowell, haven't heard that name in a while (used to buy his Competition Specialties bullets). Yeah, I'm sure he knows his way around a Caspian frame!
  7. I see you are in Orlando. Have you considered contacting Dave Pruitt? He is in the Longwood area not far for O-town and shoots regularly at Volusia. He built a Caspian based open gun for me a few years ago and I have no complaints. It is a good shooting gat.
  8. Excellent review of this gun. I got one at a match a couple years ago and first time i fired it I said (almost) the exact same thing you did at 3:16 in the vid. i don't intend to shoot any matches with it, but it does exactly what it is suppose to every time and it is easy to carry. I don't know if you have ever tried the KelTec P32, but that is a nice little pistol. I've shot the plate rack at 10 yd and did a lot better with that than with PF9 (the P32 is actually mo' fun to shoot for me). Also, the folks at KelTec are good and provide excellent service. I had a small problem with my p32 and they told me to drop by the factory (not far from me), so i did and the nice folks there fixed it up in about 15 minutes while I waited. Thanks and keep the cool videos coming!
  9. ^^^ Same rig i got except i got the PSA colt (blem) lower with Magpul stuff. Total cost less than $750 including shipping/ FFL fees, not including the optic. Put the upper and lower together out of the box and it ran with out issues. A buddy put the same combination together and had to file/stone the ejector a little to get clearance with the bolt (couldn't close the upper to the lower), which took about 15 minutes. He took it out today and his ran well, also. I wasn't expecting to like this rifle as much as i do. Lots of fun. The KVP linear comp is interesting, It seems to work better than i was expecting. Total weight of the bare rifle (not including the optic) is 6lb 1 oz.. As for the KVP barrel - Mine chambered the standard 125 grain reloads fine, but not the 135/147 gr coated bullets. I got a throater and will throat ream it to accept the same bullets and OALs I use in my 9mm pistols. Probably need to back off the charge to keep it around the 130-ish power factor. Last match another shooting buddy let me try his JP 9mm with 14.5" barrel and pinned comp. Very nice, Hard to beat that combination, too!
  10. This is just the opinion from a guy who is just getting into blow back ARs - from what I've seen both can be reliable. So, that is a wash. For unaltered Mag-wells the glock seems to be slightly easier/faster to reload due to the double to single stacking making the mags more tapered at the top. However, I believe that soon there will be aftermarket magwells that will make that moot.
  11. I think it is because of the irregular shapes and sizes of the granules and it takes some agitation to get nested together. Another thing that is interesting is that the published data says GM3 is slower than Prima V but I get 128-ish power factor with 147 grain bullets and 3.0 gr of GM3 (out of a 5" barrel"). I've seen similar anecdotal load data that suggests GM3 is a lot faster than what Nobel says (about the AA#5 or SR 7625 range). From my experience I'd put GM3 closer to red dot or AA#2 range based on powder charge weights.
  12. That little digital link blue-tooth adapter is pretty cool and lets you save your load data and results in electronic files. It does all the math for you and even will provide graphing if you want. Something to think about for down the road. Personally, I look at the chrono as a invaluable reloading tool...as important as a good scale. Glad you got a good one!
  13. Check out this thread, it has some info about HS6 in 38 super with 124 grainers. I've found HS6 varies lot to lot, so be prepared to start low and chrono up.
  14. I'll third calling/emailing Beven. He is very responsive, does great work, and his prices are very reasonable. I've had him do a few 9mm barrels, and they all came out great. No loss of accuracy or anything, just able to accept longer/blunter bullet profiles.
  15. I like that! Good thinking about taking the middle section out and pinning. Thanks for posting the pics, too!
  16. Something similar to the OPs scenario happened to me this weekend. It was the last stage, I was tired, was hurrying, and didn't do a good walk through (and count targets/shots and compare to WSB). Ironically, I shot my plan well but it didn't include a target that I didn't see in my rush - got the 2 mikes and 2 procedural (should have been one). Oh well, this time it didn't change the outcome, but it was a good reminder that consistency does not spring from complacency...and i was complacent and earned that score. As far as being slow beeped - a few matches ago I was accused of slow beeping by a shooter who thought after "standby" the beep should be almost instantaneous. I am pretty consistent about this process...after standby I count "1-1000, 2-1000" and then beep. This is well within the 1-4 second window per the rule book. I explained that to him and offered to show him the rule, but...can't please everybody, I guess. This is a volunteer sport and as long as people are doing their best to help out and be fair I am pretty tolerant.
  17. A little case lube like hornady one shot help with the sizing and removing the bulge as far down as possible, also. All the Dillons are good machines, but I am fond of the 550. Congrats!
  18. Sweet! (not so sweet about the extractor issues...but as you know finding the weak components is part of the shake down of any new gun, unfortunately). Looking at the current options, I'm leaning towards an Arredondo AR15 mag well and then fill it with either a solid block (engineering plastic, nylon, delrin, maybe aluminum, possibly a hardwood), or maybe something poured like polyester or epoxy resin with a lot of microballoons to keep it light...or maybe bondo with microballoons? I donno. But, I'm sure that pretty soon there will be a store-bought magwell solution better than whatever I kludge up!
  19. Nice Work! I bet those do make reloads a lot faster! Mine is a franken-gun with a PSA dedicated colt lower also. I don't have access to a 3D printer, or a vertical mill any longer...but I do have access to some Delrin...and that wouldn't be too hard to shape into a two piece magwell with basic hand tools and a drill press with a cross feed table. Hmmmmm... Thanks for posting your creations!
  20. Next time if you have your PCC you'll have to show me. I'm still in the gearing up phase and learning a crap-ton about the AR blow back platform. Never had one before. Hope to get a PCC rig up and running by Christmas.
  21. The spacer is nothing more than a molded piece of plastic that is approximately 0.180" x 0.700" x 4.59" and has a couple of longer screws to accommodate the added thickness of the spacer. A little creativity and a trip to Ace Hardware would work also, plus you could tailor the height. 13 bucks shipping for something that could go into a padded mailer is kind of steep. Having said that the c-more TRW version with the added height from the spacer works well for me.
  22. ^^^ Agreed. it falls under the same category as "First rule in fight club is....you don't talk about fight club!" To my friends here...if I pass suddenly, please don't laugh aloud when my wife tells you that each gun is for sale for $200 because that is what I paid for them, and powder/bullets/primers are only a few bucks per pound or thousand. Just smile and enjoy!
  23. Dannybot - dedicated Colt pattern lower.
  24. I can see a market for a form fitting elastic rubber bumper you slip over the base of the 20 & 32 round colt mags. Also can see a market for an after market mag well for the colt SMG mags. I was practicing reloads last night and can nail it about 70%-ish of the time at home (that translates to about 40% at a real match! ). I'm thinking opening the mag well a little, but the design of the AR platform lends itself to a bolt on solution. Maybe a 3D printed magwell? BTW - the Caspian/LF Tanfo Safariland 771/773 mag holders work well with the colt mags. Just planting seeds...
  25. I got a pound of this recently, also. The initial reports were that this is the replacement for SR4756, but it seems to be a lot different as far as density, powder type (flake vs flattened ball), and published and anecdotal load data. I'll be working up some loads for 38 super and will report back. I still have some 124gr SR4756 rounds loaded, so the plan is to work up a load with the same bullet to the same velocity and compare side by side.
