  1. Only issue I had was rounds slipping past the follower. Doesn't make a big deal when I am training and I disassemble and clean if they hit the ground on a match. I am just gonna get new MBX springs. Thanks fellas.
  2. Get whatever you can find and be prepared to jump on a stock 2 when you find one. Most Stock 3 shooters I know were in the process of looking for a stock 2 but couldn't find one.
  3. Been using MBX mags for a year in my .40 limited gun and they do not look as good as when I got them. They are still running great but feel like it is time to replace springs. They are barely sticking out of the bottom when i take the basepads. Are there any better spring follower combos that still give you 21 reloadable in .40? Should I just get new Springs (5 for $45) from MBX? I never had a problem with mine except the occasional round slipping past the follower. Thanks in advance.
  4. EGW and Doug Koenig hammer. Don't look back.
  5. Break out the dremel tool and trim it. Touch it up with cold blue. Mine looks like garbage but feels just right. Good luck finding one in a package that fits you just perfect. A local smith can make it look pretty and reblue it.
  6. Makes the slide lighter, so less reciprocating weight slamming back and forth. Recoil impulse feels different than a standard setup. Try one and see if you like it. I have two limited guns setup in this configuration. Both are CK frames, Caspian slides, and Schuemann Hybrid .40 Barrels. One has a full length dust cover and the other is tri-topped and 1" cut off the dust cover. The tri-topped short dust cover gun is much snappier and violent but it transitions much faster than the full dust cover gun. I prefer the tri-topped short dust cover gun. The rear sight is cut lower into the slide of tri-topped gun and the overall weight is significantly less. Mr. Postman nailed it with heat transfer directly to the front sight. One of my guns frontsite had to be tweaked to eliminate this problem. As long as it is done right from the start, you shouldn't have a problem with it.
  7. Got a RIA 9mm for my son and it is a great piece of gear. Dawson front sight, and a IPSC legal magwell, trigger job good mags and you are good to go.
  8. Did exactly what you are talking about. Shot a Glock 24, for about 6 months, then got a RIA .40 pro. Made A class in a year with that gun. Now one of my buddies is shooting it. It is a good way to see if you are "all in" with this sport without breaking the bank. My gun works well but you will either quit shooting altogether or will end up with a STI or high end custom gun. Right now your gun is not what is holding you back at all anyway. Just find one that works everytime and have fun with it. I shot my RIA for a year and then moved up to a custom gun. Glad I shot the RIA for a year.
  9. I shot a Glock 24 for about 6 months then bought a new RIA .40 Pro Match. Shot it for a year and and a half and shot at least 20k thru it. Made it to A class with it. Great gun but very heavy and harder to steer than a short dust cover gun. I had a full dust cover gun built on a CK frame, sight tracker and plastic grip and have been shooting it for 6 months. The difference is huge between the two guns. The ergonomics is way better with the CK frame gun. I just got another CK frame gun built with a sight tracker barrel and I had it tri topped and a 3/4 length dust cover. I have been shooting this for two weeks. Much better handling pistol the lighter the front end but the sight lift is a little higher. It seems to be the perfect balance I have been looking for If money is an object, you can't go wrong with the RIA as a starter pistol. Mine was reliable and one of my buddies is shooting it now. The barrel broke around the link pin after ALOT of rds and RIA fixed it no questions asked. Good product and good warranty. I learned a lot shooting that pistol. TheEdge will put you where most limited guys are and will be the easiest to move if you decide to get rid of it. Knowing what I know now and considering the 3 options you presented , I would jump straight to the Eagle. Reason is that I prefer the light handling characteristics of a short dust cover lighter front end gun. Good luck with your decision.
  10. I knew a quality traditional barrel would give me all the accuracy I would ever need for limited. It worked well with my first gun and didn't see the need to break what wasn't broken. I got a good deal on a second one off of the USPSA yard sale. You kind of have to jump on a hybrid Schumann barrel when you see them. Supplies are limited and get gone fast.
  11. I am running the schuemann sight tracker barrel on two .40s. Both are Caspian slides and CK frames. One is tri topped with a 3/4 length dust cover and the other is not tri topped and a full dust cover. The tri top gun is super light up front and front sight lifts a little more than the full dust cover gun but the slide function is a lot less violent. Front sight tracks up and right back to where it needs to. I love the concept and would recommend the sight tracker with a 3/4 length dust cover and tri topped. I am getting about 10% better times on my normal drills with the light gun. Accuracy is outstanding. I don't have the AET barrels, they are the plain jane barrels. I do not regret going this route. I have experienced no problems with cracks in the slides or barrels. I have 20k plus thru the full dust cover gun and I just got the tri topped 3/4 length dust cover gun this week. I have put over 1k thru it this week with no issues whatsoever. I love the sight tracker. Go all out and get what you want. Good luck with your order. I did see an Apeiro front end blow off a gun a few months ago though.
  12. I am running a limited .40 and have tried both paths with magazines. I sold my STI mags and SNL basepads. I am shooting MBX exclusively now. They are worth the money and just plain work like they are supposed to.
  13. All the 2112 armorers built guns in the side for beer money. I lucked up and had two MEUSOCs built and an M40a1. That was a ways back. Last one I had was in 2006, and it was one of the newest ones with a Springfield frame and slide. I heard those were the ones built for Det 1 that got sent to Albany. Thanks for your service brother. My current Limited gun was built by a former 2112 also. You fellas do it right.
  14. Not 100% accurate. MARSOC made the jump to the Glock. Recon did not. The new Colt is nothing compared to the previous issue MEUSOC .45, which was hand-built by Marines. New Colt guns finish was falling off when breaking them in. Some were great out of the box and others were awful. Maintenance and complete cleaning on the 1911 during extreme use and exposure to the elements is needed more than on the plastic gun. There are more and more fellas with little or no pistol background who dont care what sidearm they have. There will never be a company that can keep up with rebuilding these pistols and do it with the attention the Marine Corps armorers once did. My prediction is that these reasons will eventually lead to the 1911 going away for good in the future. It is a crying shame. Call me old school, but a single stack MEUSOC gun is what I toted both in war and peace, even had one strapped in the delivery room when two of my children were born. I would prefer it today and ask any recon Bubba who ran one will probably say the same
  15. That is what I would do. L10 Single Stack.
  16. I am running the Koenig hammer and EGW internals in a CK frame and am very happy with it. Just ran into Doug Koenig at a match in Volusia County and he asked how it was running and said it was a design he was very please with . I am doing another build soon and will run the same internals.
  17. I ran a RIA for a year which is a para clone for just those same reasons. I am glad I did. They are very heavy and forgiving. A great place to start until you figure out what you want in a limited gun.
  18. I don't compete with the revolver but have shot them for years. I currently have to qualify quarterly with my J frame. I am a right handed shooter and I have found the left thumb clamped over the back of the right hand works best for me for rapid fire and slow fire.
  19. MSA Sordins with Gel Cup. More rugged. More comfortable. More expensive. You get what you pay for. I have worn a lot of ear muffs (and destroyed a lot) and these are the best I have ever fooled with.
  20. Bent (I call them broke) elbows are essential in being able to crush the grip. Do a simple test. Lock your arms out and build your grip. Take notice how much pressure you can apply to the grip panels. Now break your elbows a 1/2" and see how much pressure you can apply. Elbows flared or not flared is situational dependent. Are you shooting Open, Limited, or Production? What king of grip strength do you have? Just how big a fella are you?
  21. I just had a CK LDC-Hybrid .40 put together with a Caspian slide. I don't think they had any problems with the Caspian. Fit is really nice.
  22. I am running Dawson Pads on ACT mags with Act follower and arredondo springs. No issues at all with 20 rds.
