  1. I have Rudy Project Rydon with the Racing Red lense set up for front sight on right eye, and left eye for distance. Love them.
  2. A friend of mine had them on a Glock. He was very optimistic. They didn't survive the first match. The giant hunk of plastic on the front sight fell out. We all gave him a hard time. He changed them out after that match. Haven't seen anybody else try them.
  3. Dry fire, dry fire, dry fire! Quit grabbing your Glock! Put it away until you give your 1911 a honest run. The main reason I love a 1911 platform is the trigger. The second reason is the grip angle. Both are completely different on a Glock. You have to get used to it. I shot a Glock 24 in limited for about 7 months because I couldn't afford to move up. I ended up with a RIA Pro Match .40, for about a 1000 bucks. I will never go back to a striker fired gun. Besides, you are in Texas and should shoot a 1911 or 2011.
  4. Black coffee before w/PBandJ sandwich water during with a spare PBandJ whenever I feel it. Miller Lite after Dont judge - I have a bad back
  5. Been shooting a pro match RIA .40 for a year now. Over 12k thru it. It is a workhorse with Greg Côte mags, Arredondo springs and Dawson base pads (20 rd mags). Gun is tight and shoots great. Complete different feel than plastic frame 2011. Plastic frame guns feel more narrow and seem to reload a little smoother. RIA is alot heavier, a little slower on draws and transitions but shoots much softer. Trigger job Taylor Freelance magwell and Dawson front sight and lots of anmo is all you need. Rear sight blade broke off and replaced it with a Kensight LPA cut rear. First you need reliability and accuracy. My RIA is as reliable and accurate as anything out there. Finally, YOU have to shoot it. Nobody else does. You have to be happy with your decision and like your gun to enjoy it. I am having a limited gun built that is complete opposite of my RIA. I am going with CK frame, plastic grip and sight tracker Schumann barrel. I hope it shoots as good as my RIA. Honestly, I am in no rush for my guy to finish it. After all, it is the Indian, not the arrow.
  6. All are really good local matches, which usually have one classifier. It just depends on how far you want to drive. Palmetto and GTR are usually a haul for me. My favorites are SEPSA and SAPSA, but that is because I shoot them the most and have made some great friends there. I hate to miss one of those matches. I think they both let first timers shoot for free.
  7. You can shoot within driving distance of Savannah every weekend. Palmetto State just outside Charleston is First Saturday, GTR in Gainseville FL is First Sunday, SEPSA in Yulee FL is second Saturday, SAPSA in Saint Augustine third Saturday, and CAPS in Brunswick and Ancient City in Saint Augustine on the fourth Saturday.
  8. Sorry don't know about the IDPA question.
  9. Taylor Freelance installed with no problems but required some blending inside the magwell where it married up to gun. Works fine.
  10. Wilson 7 rounders give me 8 in the mag. Mine work great.
  11. I have a 51738, broke the blade off the rear sight and replaced it with a Kensight LPA cut. No issues. Exact fit.
  12. Mag release for a para made by guncrafters and 14lb recoil spring is what I am running.
  13. I have been shooting his gun hard since I got it. It runs great, seems to have loosened up a lot but accuracy is still fine. I have put over 7k thru it (lost count a while back). Rear sight blade broke off last month and I replaced it with a new Kensight LPA cut sight. I like it better. Wore the slide clean with my Safariland 5198, Parkerizing is wearing off. I have shot several 2011s and mine seems to be quite a bit heavier than the plastic grip guns and not as narrow in the grip. The others seem to steer a little easier but muzzle flip is worst than mine. This gun is a no frills workhorse and even if I end up with a high end 2011, i wont ever get rid of it. Get the Dawson front sight and the Taylor magwell and Greg Côte mags with Dawson extension and Arredondo springs and just shoot it. Yes, I would do it again. I am almost to A class and am in no rush to change. The gun does its part. I am very happy with it.
  14. Simonich Gunner Grips are for folks who have like the super aggressive grip. I have them on all my 1911s.
  15. Mine is still running strong. Can't say enough about this gun. I put the TF magwell on and still running the Act mags with Dawson extensions. I get 20 rds in the mags with original followers and Arredondo springs. I put a .100 Dawson friont sight on it. It is a keeper. I will try the Taran followers next to try and get 21. Love this gun
  16. Cant figure out how to load pics they are too big. Sorry
  17. Update - gun is running great with factory ammo, 2500+ rds through it to date and no issues. Three matches and I am hooked. I really like this pistolv magazines are running great, i havent gauged them but I compared them to my glock 22 mags with Taylor freelance base pads thatare legal and the ria mags with Dawson pads are shorter. I had a trigger job done and it is now about 2.5 lbs and had my ambi safety sharp edges smoothed down I am going to put a thinner front sight and longer trigger on it as well as checker the underside of the triggerguard
  18. Got the gun last friday aftrnoon. Cleaned it. Gun looks great, except for grip safety fit a little rough and ambi safety real sharp. Lightpipe is dull and .060. Already switched it out . Trigger is about 4 lbs, I want it lower. Gun is all steel and HEAVY! I like it, and it soaks up recoil. Magazine-comes with one. I already had four ACT from Greg Cotes LLC and put Dawson +4 base pads and Arredondo spring. $21 for mag, $32 for plate, $7 for spring. 20 rds loads easily and after 1000 rds, I have had no magaxine malfunctions. Holster is a 5197 Safariland for an STI full dust cover. Fits just fine for me I have had 4 failures to feed which I think were due to extractor tension. Gun runs great now and is accurate. Over 1000 rds thru it this week. I really like this gun. So far, really impressed and i shot the best classifier I have ever shot within 24 hrs of getting it (been shootin a Glock) Changed safety to wide single sided (dont like ambi) Gonna let a pro get my trigger down to 2.5 or there abouts
