  1. I shot it 6 times. When it was just the Single Stack Classic back in the mid 90's, everyone went to the prize table. They had several sponsors that put something for everyone on the table. Springfield is the lone sponsor now, so the same people win the guns, but everyone gets a "thanks for coming" item in the shooters bag. Usually something nice, like a Surefire E2D light, or a CRKT knife. Unless you expect to finish top in your class, I'd suggest skipping the awards & enjoy a good meal somewhere. Speaking of a good meal, go to the Patio Restaurant. They have a 2" pork chop that is worth the drive alone. The prime rib was top notch also.
  2. I was looking over the optics threads on ar15.com last night and came across this. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_18/554877_GRSC_1_6x24_Combat_Rifle_Scope__CRS_.html The illuminated reticle is supposed to be daylight visible. It's made in Japan, not China. At less than 1/2 the cost of a Swaro, could have a place in our game. Listed at $1025.00. There was a link to a good multi-page review. It is a FFP scope. I don't have any ties to GRSC, I'm just always looking for good optics. I currently run a Burris XTR14 SFP scope. Never tried first focal plane.
  3. I use the Lee carbide set w/FCD in all my toolheads. The Lee sizer sizes down farther on the case than the Dillon die.
  4. Barrel length should be secondary to gas system length. A rifle length gas system will shoot much softer than a carbine gas. Really, go no shorter than midlength gas. The DPMS barrels are like the Chevy's of rifle barrels. They'll get you there, and work better than they should for the money, but there are fancier rides out there. The 18" DPMS will need to be turned down or fluted to shave some weight, but it is rifle gas with a 1-8 twist and stainless, all good. And, the DPMS can be had for +/- $180. Law of diminishing returns takes over at some $$ point, resulting in fewer gains for dollar spent. For a solid starter upper, I'd vote for the DPMS barrel, flat top upper with M4 cuts, milspec BCG, clamp on gas block (I like my VLTOR, but Sadlak is half the price at Brownells), free float tube of your choice, Miculek comp. When you're ready to upgrade, turn or flute the barrel, or step up to one of the many name brand ones, get the lightweight BCG, buffer, trigger from JP, adjustable gas block, and Benny Hill comp or SJC comp. Or, Buy once, cry once, and get the JP or Firebird upper now, and just shoot it. I like building my own AR's, and if I hadn't picked up a new Colt CR Pro at the Pro/Am earlier this year, I'd still be shooting my WOA 18" home built upper.
  5. I picked up a tip here to stack two 2016 batteries instead of using a single 2032. Not as bright as a Meopta, but bright enough for usable daylight illum. I've had two XTR14's and both were great. Hope Burris fixes it for you.
  6. Look at the Primary Arms mini green dot. It is a Docter clone, uses Docter bases or the included picatinny base. Has a glowing green dot that you can't miss! It has a one year replacement warranty that is no questions asked. PA's customer service is top notch. I'm running the green dot & a Burris XTR14 on a RAMP, & like it so far. The green dot is less than $100.
  7. I bought one on Daniel's website, &paid with paypal. When I got to the match, I did not receive it. I was told there was a problem with paypal. I went back to the hotel & printed the paypal page showing I had paid, & gave it to Sandra, who said she would make sure Daniel got it. I also talked to Daniel, who told me they were making more, & it would be sent to me. Heard nothing for a few months, so I im'd him here & emailed him, heard nothing back. Ran into him at the Pro/Am, gave him name, address, phone number, email, still have heard nothing. I was contemplating what my next step should be. Did you get yours, or the runaround?
  8. Be sure to record the show at midnite, The Talking Dead. They are having a discussion about the upcoming season, and conjecture of what happens.
  9. New season starts in 15 minutes. Anyone else into it?
  10. I read it on Nordic's website, and Chris Patty's site says not for the 930SPX. Not sure if the mag tubes are different on the SPX from the other 930's. Glad to hear it works, I will try it then.
  11. What specific make and model of fiber optic sight is everyone using? So many choices... I'm going to put it on a Mossberg 930 vent rib.
  12. Me too. Got a like-new 930 combo with a 28" VR and a 24" rifled slug barrel on Gunbroker for $375. Picking out the Nordic parts now. Promod, is Nordic making a Mossberg follower now, the teflon ones won't work on them I hear. They are supposed to be making one for Mossbergs soon. Just have to decide if I want the factory 24" VR or cut the 28" one down.
  13. I have the Geissele 3 gun in my new Colt CR Pro, and really like it. Esskay's description of the rolling feeling, then the break is right on. I also have a Bill Springfield trigger set in another rifle. Great trigger for $35 on a stock trigger group. I won't beat you up on trading the Larue. If you get a regular forged lower, a lower is a lower is a lower. It's really just a box with pin holes for fitting your fire control parts. Some are known for tight mag wells (Olympic Arms, RRA), but otherwise they will all work for you.
  14. I think he is talking about a 1-6.5x24 that is available in Europe only right now. Has a BDC reticle. 6500 series. Anyone know if it is 1st or 2nd focal plane?
  15. I liked the Choate charging handle on mine. Dave Metal Works, who makes the EZ loader, has a charging handle and and a big button safety. I liked the Vang dome-head safety, nice big round button. Get your o rings from Trugrip here on the site. Brownells carries all the parts you could want for it, except the Trugrip o rings.
  16. Target being scored with a penalty and taped, all while I'm still shooting the rest of the stage, and being told after. Slugs past 50 yards. Reactive targets in the shade that don't give each shooter the same challenge. RO's that don't know their own rules for the match. Showing up at Ft. Benning, and having 2 out of 3 optics on my open guns go TU.
  17. And the Inj. Mold. Pouches allow a gi mag to go in bullets up, to the front or back.
  18. I have the Choate, and my brother the CCW. With the Choate, shells want to jump out of them when I run to the next position. Seems the springs on the top that are supposed to retain the top shell is too weak. Haven't figured out how to prevent this. Am considering the Mark Otto vest thingy that lets you load 2 at a time. Chris Patty had some at the Pro/Am that are all-kydex; looked very secure.
  19. Is the illumination daylight visible? I handled one at a shop today, but it didn't have a battery in it.
  20. I ran my HK/Benelli M1, barrel cut down and choked by Guncat. I used Remington Gun Club, poor man's STS. It ran better than I did. Didn't knock over a plate on AM 1, and ran by a plate on AM 4. Yep, gotta aim it. But it ran flawlessly. I do believe I will be looking at the new Mossberg when it arrives to market. I used IC on AM 1, and Mod. for everything else.
  21. How do we contact him? He doesn't have a website last I checked.
  22. Linda could you check my score it shows 331.65, if I am correct (which is always questionable) it should be 427.22.Thanks for checking and thanks for assiting in putting on one of the most enjoyable matches I have ever shot. Greg Yeah, my score is wrong too, not sure it matters at this point though.
  23. Only suggestion I would have is some marked safe areas. If they were there, I didn't see them. Where else can you hobnob with Benny Hill, have lunch with Mark Larue, chat with Ian Harrison from Top Shot, play with the Mossberg JM 930, eat for free the whole weekend, and go home with more than your entry fee in cool gear? Best match ever. I thought this year would be subpar without the trip to Georgia for Ft. Benning, but this more than made up for it. I had a couple brain fades that dropped me down a bit, but overall I was OK with my shooting. Next year, I definitely will try to get a room at the lodge.
